warfare 1939 style — after having trained the afghan army personnel and the ukrainian recruits.....

Members of 6th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment and 2nd Health Battalion have been preparing for their deployment as part of Joint Australian Training Team - Philippines (JATT-P) 2023, at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane.

They will deliver lessons on combat shooting, urban clearance, tactical care of a combat casualty and explosive breaching drills.

As part of the preparation, the soldiers simulated working with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to help overcome language and cultural barriers.

Some members role-played as soldiers from the partner nation to enhance the realism of the training.

Private Jack McCombe, who was acting as an instructor, said it was a new experience.

“Interacting with soldiers from other nations is new to me in an instructing role so it’s really good to get this experience,” he said.

“We’ve done months of training and now we get to put it in practice.

“I’m really excited about going over there, it’s a good start to the year and I’m keen to get a feel for something different.”

There will be several rotations as part of JATT-P 2023.

Contingent commander Major Michael Joseph said the deployment would enhance soldiers’ skills and provide a great opportunity to work with foreign forces.

“It’s absolutely important for a lot of the junior soldiers to get that experience and understand how to work with partner nations,” he said.

“A lot of them have never been on a training exercise overseas before or dealt with language barriers, so it’s important for them to learn how to overcome those challenges.”

numbers...

SO FAR THE UKRAINE MILITARY HAS LOST MORE THAN 150,000 "MEN" IN LESS THAN A YEAR. DEAD. AVERAGE 400 DEAD PER DAY. THE UKRAINIAN ARMY HAS ABOUT THE SAME NUMBER OF INJURED SOLDIERS, MOST UNABLE TO GO BACK TO "THE FRONT". BETWEEN THE VARIOUS ALLIES TRAINING FACILITIES — UK, AUSTRALIA, GERMANY AND OTHERS — A NEW BATCH OF 40,000 UKRAINIAN "SOLDIERS" PER YEAR IS BEING PREPARED. THESE ARE MAINLY YOUNG ADOLESCENT WHO HAVE ESCAPED THE DRAFT IN UKRAINE BY MOVING TO REFUGEE CAMPS — AND HAVE BEEN "COERCED" INTO JOINING THE "RESISTANCE" WHICH IS NAZI FLAVOURED...

THE CHANCES OF SURVIVAL AGAINST THE RUSSIAN MIGHT (WHICH IS PRESENTLY QUIETLY "DOING THINGS"), ARE ABOUT 20 PER CENT.

A DEAL IN FAVOUR OF RUSSIA IS THUS PARAMOUNT FOR PEACE, BECAUSE RUSSIA IS NOT GOING TO LET GO OF THE BONE WHICH THE WEST THREW AT IT. THE FOUR REGIONS OF THE DONBASS AND CRIMEA ARE FIRMLY RUSSIAN AS THEY SHOULD (AND WERE).

IN THE DOCUMENTARY: "THE U.S. AND THE HOLOCAUST", THE CRIMES AGAINST THE JEWISH POPULATION BY THE BANDERIST UKRAINIANS ARE NOT MENTIONED PER SE, BUT HAVING REVIVED STEPAN BANDERA IN ORDER TO FOMENT THE 2014 MAIDAN REVOLUTION, THE U.S. AND THE KIEV GOVERNMENT ONLY SHOWED THEIR NAZI COLOURS.

MILITARILY, RUSSIA MADE A FEW MISTAKES (WHO DOES NOT) BUT HAS "REGROUPED" AND HAS BEEN ABLE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF ITS CASUALTIES SO THAT THE UNOFFICIAL COUNT OF DEAD RUSSIAN SOLDIERS IS BELOW 9,500.

MAKE A DEAL NOW AND PREVENT THESE GALICIAN YOUNG KIDS, TRAINED BY OUR DELUSIONS, FROM DYING OF STUPIDITY, SO THEY CAN LIVE IN PEACE. MAY THEY ALSO LEARN AND ACCEPT THAT CRIMES WERE COMMITTED IN THEIR COUNTRY'S NAME.

THEIR FUTURE SHOULD NOT BE TAINTED BY THE CRIMES OF THEIR ANCESTORS, BUT BY BECOMING AGENTS OF PEACE, THEY CAN REDEEM SOME OF THIS UNGLORIOUS PAST. AUSSIES TRAINING THEM TO BECOME "AGENTS OF WAR" IS OUTRAGEOUS, AND THIS SHOWS OUR HYPOCRISY IN FULL LIGHT.

learning curve....

Ukrainian troops on the front lines in the Donbas have told the BBC that Russian forces are "learning every day and changing their strategy," as they continue to gain ground around the heavily contested town of Bakhmut. But the soldiers also insisted that morale remains high, despite growing exhaustion after almost a year of war.

The two Ukrainian soldiers swept into the room, still visibly flushed with adrenalin, having just driven straight from the furiously active front lines along the rolling, snow-covered hills further south. Peering over a giant map at their brigade's temporary headquarters, they jabbed at the spots where Russian forces are inching forwards towards a key road.

"They were about 400 metres from us, across the field just here. We're holding on, but it's getting harder," said Sgt Denys Kalchuk from the all-volunteer Dnipro-1 Battalion, going on to describe how Russian infantry, fighter jets, and artillery units appear to be operating with growing coordination and effectiveness around Bakhmut.

"The planes are the worst. You can't hear them until it's too late. It's the same with the tanks. Artillery is easier - at least you might have a second or two [to dive for cover] after you hear them coming," said Sgt Kalchuk.

Assessing the overall state of the conflict across the Donbas is extremely difficult. Access is challenging and dangerous, and dozens of different Ukrainian battalions and brigades are working on separate tasks, amid some secrecy, spread out along hundreds of miles of often fast-changing front lines.

THE AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS ARE GOING TO TRAIN THE PHILLIPINOS... WHY.... OH I SEE:

US secures deal on bases to complete arc around China

By Rupert Wingfield-Hayes    BBC News, Manila

The US has secured access to four additional military bases in the Philippines - a key bit of real estate which would offer a front seat to monitor the Chinese in the South China Sea and around Taiwan.

With this deal, Washington has stitched the gap in the arc of US alliances stretching from South Korea and Japan in the north to Australia in the south.

The missing link had been the Philippines, which borders two of the biggest potential flashpoints, Taiwan and the South China Sea, or the West Philippine Sea as Manila insists on calling it.

The US already had limited access to five sites under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) - the new additions and expanded access, according to a statement from Washington, will "allow more rapid support for humanitarian and climate-related disasters in the Philippines, and respond to other shared challenges", likely a veiled reference to countering China in the region.

The statement came after Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin met Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr in Manila on Thursday.

The US hasn't said where the new bases are but three of them could be on Luzon, an island on the northern edge of the Philippines, the only large piece of land close to Taiwan - if you don't count China.

The deal, which in part reverses the US' departure from their former colony more than 30 years ago, is no small matter.

"There is no contingency in the South China Sea that does not require access to the Philippines," says Gregory B Poling, director of the Southeast Asia programme at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.

"The US is not looking for permanent bases. It's about places, not bases."

That is, it is seeking access to places where "light and flexible" operations involving supplies and surveillance can be run as and when needed, rather than bases where large numbers of troops will be stationed.

20 minutes.....

Moscow has repeatedly warned that the training of Ukrainian soldiers in Western countries confirms the direct involvement of the United States and NATO in the conflict in Ukraine.

A group of Ukrainian soldiers who were trained at a UK military base last summer, surrendered after 20 minutes of the first fighting against Russian forces near Svyatogorsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Armed Forces of Ukraine conscript Artyom Kovalenko, a member of the group, told Sputnik.

He recollected that before arriving "at the Workop base in Britain", they reached the Western Ukrainian city of Lvov, from where they crossed the border to Poland and then took a bus to enter the UK.

According to Kovalenko, they took “a 21-day training course for rookie soldiers at the base, which included shooting, medicine, military law and basic military things such as storming trenches, buildings and cities.”

Kovalenko explained that after the group wrapped up the course, they returned to the northern Ukrainian city of Zhitomir, where they took part in joint combat training as part of the Ukrainian army’s 25th brigade.

“After that, we went to the Volyn region to patrol the village of Zabolotye. […] Then we went to Svyatogorsk, where we lived at a tourist base for four days, and shortly after we went to the frontline where we had spent a month before being captured. We were tasked with holding the line. We were captured on December 1 after we were bypassed and our positions were stormed. Twenty minutes into the fighting, we surrendered,” he said.

Since Russia started its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24,2022, the US and its allies have imposed swathes of sanctions on Moscow, while also providing military and technical assistance to Kiev.

Although the countries which have sanctioned Russia have repeatedly stated that they have no intention to send troops to Ukraine and become a party to the conflict, they haven't baulked at sending their instructors to Ukraine and also assisting Ukrainian soldiers in travelling to other countries to undergo military training.

Apart from the US, Canada and the UK, which have already been training thousands of Ukrainian troops, several individual EU nations, such as Germany and France, have been training Ukrainians to use the modern artillery systems, missile launchers and air defenses they have delivered to Kiev. In separate development last month, the UK, along with the US and Germany, signaled its readiness to provide Ukraine with their main battle tanks - the Challenger 2, the M1 Abrams and the Leopard 2, respectively.

Moscow has repeatedly rebuked the West for supplying weapons to Ukraine, warning that Western countries “are playing with fire" and that such deliveries add to prolonging the Ukrainian conflict further.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that "any weapon [and] any arms shipment to Ukrainian territory" would be considered “a legitimate target” by the Russian military. According to Moscow, Ukrainian soldiers being trained in Western countries testifies to the US and NATO’s direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.

refugees or soldiers?

The SouthFront Team received a letter from one of our readers from England. He takes part in the UK Government Homes For Ukraine initiative and hosts a young couple of refugees from Ukraine.

On January 30, he received an official letter from the Department of Equalization, Housing and Communities. The host was demanded to provide the following personal data of his guests:

  1. Whether the sponsor hosts or hosted a Ukrainian refugee(s)
  2. Whether there is (are) a male person(s) among the refugees aged 18 plus
  3. In case a male person(s) left the residence, report this(their) posible location and other available informmation
  4. A male Ukrainian(s) aged 18 plus personal info: name, surname, middle name, age, current location of residence

In their turn, the refugees have to visit the Ukrainian embassy to “specify their personal data individually”.

Our reader wondered what was the reason for collecting such data about his guests:

Distinguished Editor,

I’m James. I reside in Ipswich, East England. I’ve been part of the UK Government Homes For Ukraine initiative for 5 months now. I am hosting a sweet couple from the city of Lviv or something like that, a young lady and her husband. Both in their late 20s. They have already found a job and we get on well together. They are simply nice people but that’s not the point of the story.

Just a couple of days ago I received a letter from the department for leveling up, housing & communities that told me to report the authority a certain data on my guests. I will obviously do that, but I just don’t really get the reason why should I. Moreover, it looks like B… (the lady’s husband, the refugee) must now visit his country’s embassy in London for only God knows what reason. The letter reads ‘Embassy of Ukraine enquiry’.

What does that ‘inquiry’ mean? Why would Ukrainian embassy gather such data? Does anybody know what is it all about?

I hope this email finds you and you would be kind to post it on your platform!

Best wishes,

James …

Obviously, this is not just a survey on Ukrainian refugees. The fact that the embassy is interested exclusively in Ukrainian men over the age of 18 indicates that this measures are taken amid some mobilization procedures. It is likely that the Kiev regime is starting to look for new soldiers among refugees abroad amid the ongoing preparations for the spring offensive on the fronts which was recently announced by Biden.

Earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine predicted that at the beginning of 2023 the total number of refugees from the country will increase to nine million people. Which is probably a fairly modest forecast.

The general mobilization of Ukrainians continues amid fierce fighting along the entire front line of Donbass, heavy losses of the Ukrainian Army and the outflow of foreign mercenaries. For example, on January 1, the founder of the private military company “Mozart” Andrew Milburn recognized the victory of the PMC “Wagner” and announced that his mercenaries are leaving Ukraine.

The mobilization resource in the country is sharply decreasing. The AFU mobilizes people of older age groups, with chronic diseases, who have not served in the army, that is, those categories of the population who are unlikely to be good soldiers. Ukrainian men are captured by the military right on the streets throughout the country. LINKLINK

The search for soldiers abroad may be an attempt to facilitate military supply chains to Ukraine and training of Ukrainian soldiers abroad. Ukrainians who are currently being hunted by the embassy can be mobilized to undergo training in the UK and join the crews of Challenger 2 tanks and participate in other exercises. So the refugees will soon return to their country, but already as part of combat units.

On January 14, the UK was the first among NATO countries to announce the transfer of 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Kiev. The other day, the Kingdom’s Defense Minister declared that the AFU would receive tanks before the beginning of summer. On February 5, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called Zelensky to tell him that British instructors had begun to train Ukrainians to operate Challenger 2 tanks. Sunak promised to make every effort to ensure that “British military equipment arrived at the front as soon as possible.”

In addition to the UK, the training of Ukrainian tankers was organized in Germany, where they are taught to operate German-made Leopard tanks.

Despite the claims of the military officials that Ukrainians are quickly mastering the operation of foreign tanks, some Western experts doubted that Ukrainian tankers would be able to master the management of complex Western military equipment within a few weeks, even if they already have experience in managing Soviet tanks. If the Kiev regime begins mobilizing new servicemen among the refugees in the NATO countries, their training would take even more time.
