fiddler on the roof.....

“Hey, get down from there!” Quick, am I talking to a cat, a child, or the president of the United States? If you guessed the president, you’d be right. For some reason, Donald Trump got on the roof of the White House briefing room on Tuesday and just sort of ambled around for a bit while shouting to reporters down on the ground.

When asked what he was doing up there, Trump told reporters that he was “taking a little look.” It also sounds like he might be saying he’s “taking a little walk.” It’s hard to hear because he is, you know, on the roof of a building.

In a clip from Fox Business, you can hear him say, “More ways to spend my money … It’s just another way to spend my money for the country.” Presumably, Trump is referring to his plan to add a $200 million ballroomto the East Wing of the White House or another renovation in a similar vein.

Usually, when a 79-year-old man gets a little confused and winds up on the roof of his house, it’s cause for alarm. For Trump’s most devoted followers, this is actually proof of how awesome he is. Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk referred to the president as “an American original,” while an X user who goes by Johnny MAGA called him an “absolute baller” for taking a little stroll on a roof.

Not to give Trump even an iota of credit, but it does seem like one of the best perks of being the president is that you can just go wherever you want. Personally, I would pick better spots than the roof of my own house (Area 51, the Museum of Natural History at night, a dead center seat for The Odysseyat the AMC Lincoln Square Imax), but I do see where he’s coming from. Sometimes you just want to take a look.

brats...

In his first time, President Trump was partly constrained by the so-called 'adults in the room' - people who could explain to him why some particularly mad idea would not work. We already knew that this time was different, but we had been lead to hope that there might be at least one or two adults in the room - keeping their heads down and choosing their moments. Marco Rubio or Scott Bessent perhaps. Some constraints. The evidence is piling up that that's really not the case. Let's discuss.

renos....

Washington (AFP) – President Donald Trump, who is remodeling the White House to his tastes, will build a massive ballroom for hosting official receptions, one of the largest projects at the US executive mansion in over a century.

Trump himself and unspecified donors will foot the bill for the $200 million project, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a press briefing on Thursday.

"For 150 years, presidents, administrations and White House staff have longed for a large event space on the White House complex," the spokeswoman said.

"There's never been a president that was good at ballrooms," the 79-year-old president and former real estate developer told reporters of the latest bid to leave his mark on the White House.

"I'm good at building things, and we'll get it built quickly and on time. It'll be beautiful," said Trump, assuring that the character of the original building would be preserved.

The new structure will span over 8,000 square meters (90,000 square feet) and have space to seat 650 people, according to Leavitt.

Work on the ballroom -- one of Trump's long-time ambitions -- will begin in September and is expected to be completed "well before" the end of his second term in January 2029, Leavitt said.

The hope is it will host grand state dinners, given in honor of foreign heads of state visiting Washington. Until now, these were generally done by erecting a huge tent on the White House grounds.

Facade

A model of the ballroom presented by the government shows it will be a white building with tall windows. Its columns and front look reminiscent of the main White House building, a facade is known worldwide.

The ballroom building will replace the East Wing, which usually houses the offices of the US first lady.

Trump, who does not shy away from the gaudy, has also redone the Oval Office to splash the room in gold -- from the stars surrounding the presidential seal on the ceiling, to the gold statues on the fireplace, to the mantel itself.

The project is shaping up to be one of the most significant to break ground at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue since renovation and expansion works undertaken by President Theodore Roosevelt at the start of the 20th century.

President Harry Truman also oversaw notable construction work between 1948 and 1952, but did so without changing the external structure.

Trump has said for some time that he wants to build a White House ballroom inspired by his own properties.

On Thursday, he praised the newly built, lavish ballroom -- named after himself -- at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, one of dozens of properties owned by the Trump family.

It will also be inspired by the ballroom of the Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida, which has served as the model for Trump's remodeling of the White House to suit himself.

beautiful ballroom.....

A demolition team has begun tearing down a section of the East Wing of the White House to make room for a spacious ballroom to be built in its place, US President Donald Trump has announced.

Photos and footage of the demolition have been published by several media outlets and on social media.

In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote that he was “pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom.”

“For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits,” he claimed. Trump emphasized that “this much-needed project” would not cost the American taxpayer a single cent, since it “is being privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly.”

Speaking at a dinner with business leaders last week, Trump said companies such as Apple, Amazon, Lockheed Martin, and Coinbase are picking up the tab for the $250-million project.

Trump has long deplored the fact that the White House lacks a spacious enough room for state dinners and receptions, which have often been held on the South Lawn in temporary tents.

The new 90,000-square-foot ballroom is expected to include seating for 650 people – more than three times the space in the East Room, the largest event space in the White House at present.

Democrats were quick to criticize the endeavor.

In a post on X on Tuesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom suggested that Trump is “ripping apart the White House just like he’s ripping apart the Constitution.”

Florida Senator Darren Soto said, “Trump’s billionaire ballroom” is a “disgrace.”

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung responded by noting that “construction has always been a part of the evolution of the White House.”

“Losers who are quick to criticize need to stop their pearl clutching and understand the building needs to be modernized,” he wrote on X.

The last major reconstruction of the White House was completed in 1951 during the presidency of Harry Truman.
