Putin praises BRICS for ‘dictate-free’ cooperation
Russia is working with fellow members of the group to create a system of equal and mutually beneficial partnership, the president said....

Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed cooperation between BRICS members, stating that Moscow plans to continue working with participants of the group to develop a system of equal international cooperation.

BRICS was established in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2010. The bloc later expanded to include Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.

“Together with our partners, primarily within the BRICS association, we intend to continue working to build an effective system of equal and mutually beneficial international cooperation – free from all forms of discrimination, dictate, and sanction pressure,” Putin said on Monday in a greeting letter addressed to participants, organizers, and guests of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

This year’s SPIEF opens on June 18 and runs through June 21. The 28th annual event is expected to attract thousands of participants from Armenia, Africa, Bahrain, Vietnam, the EU, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Latin America, Moldova, Mongolia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, as well as members of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

In 2024, BRICS grew to account for 40% of the world’s economy in Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) terms, according to IMF data. The bloc’s members now represent more than two-fifths of the global population.

Last year, speaking at a meeting of BRICS security representatives in St. Petersburg, Putin noted that 34 nations had expressed interest in joining or cooperating with the group in one form or another.

Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the economic bloc had become a leading platform for aligning the interests of the global majority. He emphasized that BRICS continues to attract countries from the Global South and East, as many “seek equal and mutually beneficial partnerships for the sake of joint development.”

European Union Ambassador to Australia Gabriele Visentin is addressing the National Press Club in Canberra.

He's started by saying Europe started as a "peace project" between France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Italy, out of the ashes of World War II.

However, Visentin says war has returned to Europe's doorstep, with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"For three years now, war has returned to Europe's doorstep, with Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, which has shuttered the European security architecture and trampled on the foundations of international law, starting with sovereignty and territorial integrity," Visentin says.

The ambassador says the war is a clash between the rule of law and the rule of the gun and between democracy and autocracy.

Donald Trump can end the war between Russia and Ukraine — but he needs to know where he stands with Vladimir Putin, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“Russia is simply lying to Trump,” Zelenskyy said in a Wednesday interview with the Axel Springer Global Reporters network, of which POLITICO is a member. “Most heads of state and government share my opinion, and I very much hope that America sees and understands this. That is the most important thing. How you respond to that is America’s decision.”

The leverage to end the war lies with Trump, Zelenskyy said, because “Putin understands nothing but strength, and America has that strength.”

Referring to Trump, Zelenskyy said: “It’s all in his hands … How strong the sanctions package will be, depends on him. The speed with which decisions are made depends on him.”

Since Trump returned to the White House, he has shown little interest in pressuring Putin, but instead has squabbled with Zelenskyy, culminating in the infamous Oval Office blow-up in late February. 

Asked about the incident, Zelenskyy said wryly: “I don’t think it brought us any closer.” He added: “But that was in the past. And today we must do everything we can to ensure that the next meeting in the Oval Office is successful for both countries.”

The U.S. and Ukraine have resumed “constructive” dialogue, including a one-on-one conversation between the presidents at the Vatican in April, which was “friendly,” Zelenskyy said.

With peace negotiations in Istanbul yielding few results and Russia continuing its barrage of Ukraine, Trump signaled frustration with Putin and expressed doubts about Moscow’s willingness to make peace. But after talking with Putin on the phone last week, Trump compared Ukraine and Russia to two squabbling children and claimed the deadline for imposing more sanctions on Moscow is “in his brain.”

Asked if he thinks Trump changes his mind every day depending on whom he has spoken with on the phone, Zelenskyy replied: “I don’t know.”

ut he added: “Trump sees that the Russian side is not entirely honest about the war. Russia is not sincere.”

Though he acknowledged recent Russian advances on the frontlines, Zelenskyy insisted Moscow has not achieved its aims in the war and is slowly bleeding out. Putin knows the Russian economy is suffering and is trying to buy time, Zelenskyy said. Stronger sanctions would further deplete Russia’s arsenal, he said, leading to fewer attacks on Ukraine.

Russia can only win if Western partners abandon Ukraine, Zelenskyy said — an American withdrawal would be a “perfect scenario” for Putin.

At the end of the interview, when asked how often he has doubts, Zelenskyy noted that even Winston Churchill felt moments of despair when fighting Nazis in World War II.

“I have no fewer doubts than anyone else in Ukraine. But the difference is that I am the president,” he said. “So until the end of the war, I will never show any moments of weakness. And I will never share my dark days with anyone.”

Russia likely to have sustained around 1 million casualties — UK intelligence

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) said in its latest intelligence briefing that Russia has "likely sustained approximately 1,000,000 casualties (killed and wounded) since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022."

In a post on X, the MOD said that of that number it was likely that 250,000 Russian soldiers had been killed or were missing and were presumed dead in what it said was Russia's largest losses in a conflict since World War II.

The MOD said that in 2025 alone, Russia had likely sustained casualties of over 200,000 and cited Ukraine's General Staff reporting a daily average of 1,250 Russian casualties.

According to the MOD intelligence briefing, Russian forces were expected to "continue to attempt to stretch Ukrainian forces by using mass to overwhelm defensive positions and achieve tactical gains."

This would remain the case "so long as this does not negatively affect public or elite support for the war, and those losses can be replaced."

Europe’s Lunatics Double Down on the Way to Poverty and War

The leadership of Europe are dangerously rattled by the inevitability that their lies will eventually melt under the blistering truth most people already see.

 Their exposure is dangerous because the only “out” they can see is another world war. Now, the elites who caused every war in history have set out to impoverish the continent to prepare the masses for war.

Queen Ursula’s Last Gambit

Newsweek provides us with the latest example: EU Boss Ursula von der Leyen and her backers are laying the groundwork for war. In a story by Brendan Cole titled “Europe Delivers ‘Final Nail’ Into Putin Gas Empire’s Coffin,” the author starts and ends with a huge lie. From the title, the reader would assume the European Union has come up with yet another genius stroke strategy to destroy those pesky Russians. Then, for those who bother to read the story, the big Vampire spike through Putin’s heart is a sprinter in his finger that he’s already yanked out. The whole story revolves around the useless 18th round of sanctions the EU’s come up with and (get this) moving to keep a blown-up North Sea pipeline closed. Right here is the perfect place for a Google AI assessment of the impacts of poverty on past world wars.

“Poverty played a significant role in shaping the social and political landscape of Europe during and after both World Wars. Both wars exacerbated existing economic hardship and created new forms of suffering, impacting individuals, families, and communities differently. Poverty, in turn, fueled unrest and resistance and influenced the development of welfare states and social reforms.”

According to Newsweek, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen says, “Strength is the only language that Russia will understand.” So the bobbing head leader of the new Reich intends to dry up all of Europe’s energy to show Russia who’s boss. Russia still supplies almost 15% of the EU’s natural gas and about 6% of the crude oil the bloc gets. This does not include Russian oil and gas resold by third parties. However, the dangers Frau von der Leyen’s new sanctions are fraught with have nothing to do with Russia’s suffering. The entire scheme is designed to put pressure on Europeans, making war the only apparent choice. Allow me to explain.

The EU is already in significant trouble when it comes to energy. Since 2022, people in the EU have concerns about future energy security, especially with gas reserves being depleted and the potential for further supply cuts. And now Newsweek and other mainstream Western media report von der Leyen will lower the existing G7 Russian oil price cap from $60 to $45. The concern for EU citizens is what this will do to the overall crude oil market. Crude oil is now selling for about $66 per barrel, but the U.S. and other major suppliers are already mulling a cutback in production. Experts say U.S. crude production is set to decline on low oil prices, and when supply goes down…

Ladas On the Autobahn

Examining the EU’s primary oil suppliers, we find that the United States is now the largest, followed by Norway and Kazakhstan. So, we have the U.S. ready to move to boost oil prices, and Norway is pumping its supplies dry as fast as it can. All that remains to return Europe to the Stone Age is for Vladimir Putin to call Kazakhstan. Few reading this report will know that the main export route for Kazakhstan crude is through Russia. Oops, Ursula! Or, hurrah! Your plan to get Europeans to back a new invasion of Russia is underway. Soon, Germans will be driving Ladas.

In 2024, the Euro area experienced a growth of 0.8%. As for Russia, the growth rate there is somewhere between 3% and 0.8%, depending on whose report you are reading. The gloom and doom Western financial media have predicted for Russia have never proven true. In the East and South of Europe, low growth rates are not the killers; inflation is. The citizens of Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, or Greece simply cannot buy as much bread with the same Euro. I am reminded of something Hermann Goering, Hitler’s closest advisor and head of the Nazi Luftwaffe, once said: 

“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Meanwhile, as Ursula and Co. work to make peasants out of Europeans, Russia’s Gazprom has somehow managed to reap mega-profitability. You read that correctly. This report from (amazingly) The Carnegie Endowment tells of the Russian energy giant doubling profits from 2023 to 2024. Oh, and let’s not forget that the EU ranks 15th in terms of Russian crude oil exports. Turkey gets the most, followed by China, Brazil, Singapore, India, Malaysia, and others (January 2025).

Taking a final look at the EU’s Operation Plowshares into Swords sanctions policy, the recent conflicts between Pakistan and India threaten a $10 per barrel oil price hike. So, where do you think the $45 dollar per barrel EU-bound oil will go? Even Germans will mark Winter 2025/2026 as the worst year ever for staying warm.
