Democrat strategists are struggling to come to terms with President Donald Trump’s decisive rightward shift of the electorate in last year’s election that saw him win the popular vote and all seven swing states in a historic victory.

 

Report: Struggling Democrats’ Proposed $20 Million Study on How to Reach Young Male Voters Lost to President Trump: “Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan”

The New York Times published the first installment of a deep dive into the Democrats’ efforts to figure out and correct what went wrong in an election the report described as “a defeat that felt like both a political and cultural rejection.”

Among the Democrats’ problems is how to reach young men lost to President Trump. Reporter Shane Goldmacher reported on a proposed $20 million study that would “study the syntax, language” attractive to young men, like an anthropological study.

 

Excerpt from the Times report:

For now, Democratic donors and strategists have been gathering at luxury hotels to discuss how to win back working-class voters, commissioning new projects that can read like anthropological studies of people from faraway places.

The prospectus for one new $20 million effort, obtained by The Times, aims to reverse the erosion of Democratic support among young men, especially online. It is code-named SAM — short for “Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan” — and promises investment to “study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces.” It recommends buying advertisements in video games, among other things.

“Above all, we must shift from a moralizing tone,” it urges.

In reaction to a gobsmacked CNN reporter, Andy Kaczynski, Donald Trump, Jr posted the classic Steve Buscemi/30 Rock meme, “How do you do, fellow kids?”

In a separate article, Goldmacher reported on Trump moving the electorate to the right (excerpt):

All told, Mr. Trump has increased the Republican Party’s share of the presidential vote in each election he’s been on the ballot in close to half the counties in America — 1,433 in all — according to an analysis by The New York Times.

It is a staggering political achievement, especially considering that Mr. Trump was defeated in the second of those three races, in 2020.

By contrast, Democrats have steadily expanded their vote share in those three elections in only 57 of the nation’s 3,100-plus counties.

These counties, which we are calling “triple-trending,” offer a unique and invaluable window into how America has realigned — and still is realigning — in the Trump era. They vividly show, in red and blue, the stark changes in the political coalitions of the two parties.

The scale of Mr. Trump’s expanding support is striking. While roughly 8.1 million Americans of voting age live in triple-trending Democratic counties, about 42.7 million live in Republican ones.

Even more ominous for the Democrats are the demographic and economic characteristics of these counties: The party’s sparse areas of growth are concentrated almost exclusively in America’s wealthiest and most educated pockets.

At donor retreats and in pitch documents seen by The New York Times, liberal strategists are pushing the party’s rich backers to reopen their wallets for a cavalcade of projects to help Democrats, as the cliché now goes, “find the next Joe Rogan.” The proposals, the scope of which has not been previously reported, are meant to energize glum donors and persuade them that they can compete culturally with President Trump — if only they can throw enough money at the problem.

The Democrats still don't know why they lost so badly to Donald Trump in the 2024 election, and their attempt to try to figure it out and remedy the situation lies in a new program they're calling "Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan." It's nicknamed SAM, which brings to mind Uncle Sam and the "we want you" WWII military recruitment initiative.

"Six months after President Trump swept the battleground states, the Democratic Party is still sifting through the wreckage," The New York Times writes. Democrats have claimed men are toxic for years. Governor Gavin Newsom has blamed mass shootings on "toxic masculinity." 

President Joe Biden spoke to Morehouse grads and told them Republicans' "idea of being a man is toxic." Kamala Harris' loss to Trump was attributed by many on the left to "institutional misogyny and toxic masculinity." The entire Me Too movement painted men as predators and women as vulnerable, brave truth tellers. Yet Democrats still wonder why men left the Party in droves.

In response to this conundrum, the Democrats are taking action and their first target is American young men. The FBI and DOJ’s failure to hold Ohr accountable for appearing to commit multiple felonies and its obstructive conduct against agents that sought additional information reveals the agencies’ deeply disturbing political bias.’

A newly declassified analysis reveals that the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) were aware of allegations that Russia-collusion hoaxer Nellie Ohr lied to Congress regarding her role in the infamous Crossfire Hurricane investigation but chose not to pursue charges. 

According to the declassified 2019 analysis by the FBI, Ohr — who was working for Fusion GPS– allegedly lied to Congress on multiple occasions regarding her work attempting to link then-candidate Donald Trump and Russia. Fusion GPS was the opposition firm hired by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to dig up non-existent dirt on Trump. Fusion GPS hired ex-British spy Christopher Steele and eventually compiled what became known as the Steele Dossier. The dossier became the basis for the Russia collusion hoax.

 

Ohr’s husband, Bruce, was an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the DOJ at the time of Ohr’s employment with Fusion GPS. 

Ohr and her husband testified before the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in 2018 as part of the committee’s investigation into the Russia collusion hoax. 

Then-Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina filed a criminal referral with the DOJ alleging that Ohr knowingly lied to Congress during her testimony. 

According to the newly declassified report, Ohr testified that she “would not have any knowledge of what [was] going on in an ongoing investigation” at the DOJ nor would she have any “knowledge of the Department of Justice’s investigation on Russia.” But “emails reveal [Ohr] shared her research with” DOJ prosecutors and that she was tracking “corruption developments in Russia and Ukraine.”

 

Ohr also “provided a thumb drive containing all her Fusion GPS research to [her husband] so that he might give it to the FBI.” As previously reported by The Federalist’s Margot Cleveland, Bruce testified that “after the FBI launched an investigation into the Trump campaign, his wife handed him a flash drive consisting of the Trump-Russia research she had compiled for Fusion GPS. Bruce passed Nellie’s opposition-funded research on to the FBI.”

It was further revealed that Ohr deleted emails with DOJ prosecutors, which the report argues is “evidence of deception/concealment as potential indicia of knowledge of ongoing investigations.” 

The report further claims that Ohr, in contradiction to her congressional testimony, “disseminated Fusion GPS research to DOJ prosecutors beyond those identified in her testimony.” 

The “subject matter researched by Nellie Ohr in furtherance of her Fusion GPS position” was “found in a Fusion GPS document provided to the FBI with the intent of predicating investigative activity,” the analysis states.

 

Ohr also testified that, according to the analysis, “she did not discuss her Fusion GPS research before fall 2016” except with her husband, Christopher Steele, and an employee of Steele. 

“Ohr’s emails, however, reveal that she frequently forwarded open-source research on Russian organized crime figures, Trump, [Paul] Manafort and developments in Ukraine with implications for the Trump campaign,” the analysis states. Ohr was allegedly in communications with three DOJ prosecutors as well. 

The report further alleges that Ohr, “in direct contradiction to her testimony … took six ‘ham radio’ classes and an exam during the time she was employed by Fusion GPS.” Ham radios allow communication internationally without a cell signal. According to a press release from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, records show Ohr’s “entire ham radio training occurred between March to May 2016, while working at Fusion GPS” despite claiming her training occurred prior to her employment at Fusion GPS.

Despite Ohr’s alleged lies, the DOJ and FBI chose not to pursue charges against Ohr. 

“The FBI and DOJ’s failure to hold Ohr accountable for appearing to commit multiple felonies and its obstructive conduct against agents that sought additional information reveals the agencies’ deeply disturbing political bias,” Grassley said in a statement. “Ohr never suffered consequences for advancing the phony Trump-Russia narrative and attempting to cover up her involvement in the hoax … The DOJ’s inaction on Nellie Ohr’s criminal referral – despite the obviously incriminating evidence provided in the FBI’s own analysis – undermines public trust in the rule of law.”

The analysis was released after Grassley requested FBI Director Kash Patel to declassify the “mostly unclassified” analysis.
