questions were answered with vague rhetorical evasion, pleasing the converted dumbbutt....

WASHINGTON -- WASHINGTON (AP) — Kamala Harris went to a Philadelphia suburb on Wednesday night for a CNN town hall, where she faced questions from undecided voters. The event was arranged after Donald Trump declined to participate in a second debate with her.

With less than two weeks to go until the election, here are some key moments from the town hall.

She left no doubt that she believes her opponent can be characterized by the far-right authoritarian ideology.

Asked by CNN's Anderson Cooper if she thinks Trump is a fascist, Harris replied bluntly.

“Yes, I do,” she said. “Yes, I do.”

Her answer came shortly after John Kelly, Trump's former chief of staff, used the same term to describe the Republican nominee.

Harris' comments were a bolder version of an answer that she gave during an interview last week.

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God referred to Trump's vision for the country as fascism and asked, “Why can't we just say it?”

“Yes, we can say that,” Harris said.

Ever since being catapulted to the top of the Democratic ticket, the vice president has struggled with questions about how she's different from President Joe Biden. Harris has been reluctant to distance herself from him even though voters appear eager for a change in direction.

However, Biden recently gave her a rhetorical green light to break with him more, saying she would “cut her own path” if elected.

Harris appears to have tentatively embraced the opportunity. She repeatedly said Wednesday night that she would offer “a new approach" to governing when it came to caring for the elderly and bringing down consumer costs.

“I’m not going to shy away from saying, hey, these are still problems that we need to fix," Harris said.

The vice president doesn't usually discuss her religion, but she revealed more during the town hall.

Cooper asked Harris to reflect on the day that Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed her, particularly a call that she had with her pastor.

“I needed that advice," she said about her conversation with Rev. Dr. Amos Brown in San Francisco. "I needed a prayer.”

She also said, “I do pray every day, sometimes twice a day.”

Harris said she was raised with the understanding that “your faith is a verb,” meaning that it's important to put beliefs into action to help others.

Harris' background and personal life involves a blend of religions. She's previously talked about attending services at a Baptist church and a Hindu temple while growing up in California. Her husband, Doug Emhoff, is Jewish.

Candidates spend a lot of time talking about their strengths, so one of the voters asked Harris about her weaknesses.

“I am certainly not perfect, so let's start there,” she said with a laugh.

Harris said she surrounds herself with “very smart people” whom she pushes for answers on complicated topics.

“I’m constantly saying, ‘Let’s kick the tires on that,'" she said. Harris said she's cautious because “my actions have a direct impact on real people in a very fundamental way.”

It sounded like a classic politician dodge, like when a candidate says their biggest weakness is they care too much. But her answer hinted at real criticism that she's faced over the years.

Sometimes Harris has been known to prepare to the point of indecision or seemed unwilling to take risks, according to former officials in her office who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Harris’s Personnel Problem: Over 90 Percent of VP’s Staff Left in Last Three Years

By

'Throughout her career as a senator and then vice president, Kamala Harris developed a reputation as a difficult boss who struggles to retain staff due to the atmosphere of suspicion and disorder that tends to develop among her subordinates.

Data from the government watchdog group Open the Books — released Monday, as Harris consolidates her position as President Biden's successor atop the Democratic ticket — makes clear just how extreme Harris's personnel problem really is: 91.5 percent of the staff Harris began her vice presidential term with three years ago have since left.

Caitlin Johnstone: The ‘Genocide-for-Groceries’ Candidate

An extraordinary moment occurred on the CNN “town hall” with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday.

Asked by an audience member what she would do to end the slaughter of Palestinians by U.S.-sponsored bombs, Harris delivered her usual canned answer about how “far too many” Palestinians have died and the need for a two-state solution, after which host Anderson Cooper asked a follow-up question.

“What do you say to voters who are thinking about supporting a third-party candidate, or staying on the couch, not voting at all because of this issue?” Cooper asked.

What followed was an absolutely jaw-dropping answer from the vice president. In essence she says that people who have strong feelings about the genocide in Gaza need to get over it and vote for her anyway if they want abortions and affordable groceries, because she supports the genocide and that’s not going to change.

“Listen, I am not going to deny the strong feelings that people have,” Harris said

“I don’t know that anyone who has seen the images who would not have strong feelings about what has happened, much less those who have relatives, who have died and been killed. And I, and I know people and I’ve talked with people, so I appreciate that.”

“But I also do know that for many people who care about this issue, they also care about bringing down the price of groceries,” Harris continued.

“They also care about our democracy and not having a president of the United States who admires dictators and is a fascist. They also care about the fact that we need practical, common-sense solutions from a leader who is willing to work across the aisle on behalf of the American people and not themselves. They want a president who cares about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body, understanding that we’re not trying to change anyone’s belief, but let’s not have the government telling women what to do with their body.”

Which is just wild. I mean, technically she’s not saying anything different from what liberals have been shouting for months at Americans who oppose the Gaza genocide, but she’s not supposed to say that! She’s not supposed to come right out and admit that she’s a genocidal monster and too bad because the other candidate is the greater evil. That’s normally the sort of disgusting manipulation you let other people do for you while pretending to be a good person.

The only positive thing coming out of this nightmare is that it’s exposing the real monsters for who they are [including Republic candidate Donald Trump, who also wholeheartedly supports the genocide.]

More and more people are seeing that the U.S. government is much too evil to be allowed to rule the world.

More and more people are seeing that the state of Israel is much too evil to be allowed to continue to exist in its present iteration.

More and more people are seeing that the Western press are propaganda services for the U.S. power alliance and should never be trusted.

More and more people are seeing that the Democratic Party exists solely to protect the murderous and corrupt oligarchic status quo of the U.S. empire and not to promote the interests of ordinary human beings.

More and more people are seeing that Western liberalism is just a more photogenic version of fascism.

When you’ve got a leading presidential candidate standing in front of the nation saying that yes she will continue an active genocide but you’d better vote for her anyway if you want abortions and affordable groceries, that shows people something about the kind of nation they live in that you could never get across to them by sheer argumentation.

When you’ve got evidence of mass atrocities entering people’s social media feeds on a daily basis while the entire political-media class tells them this is fine and normal, that communicates a message which would be hard to receive in words alone.

There is so very, very little to say about this horror that is remotely positive. But it is opening eyes. And enough open eyes is all that’s required to stop this.
