ignoring calls for peace and cooperation, and working towards the destruction of russia......

On Tuesday, the last US ambassador to the Soviet Union, Jack Matlock, said that the United States was engaged in an undeclared war with Russia and warned of the danger inherent in that. "It seems to me that it is extremely dangerous to attempt what is, in effect, an undeclared war against a nuclear armed power," Matlock warned.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the United States never acknowledged Russia’s right to exist as a country or that it had legitimate national interests. NATO was focused on the Soviet Union for decades, when it collapsed, NATO turned its sights on Russia almost immediately, ignoring its calls for peace and cooperation and working towards its destruction.

“Now what I think [Ambassador Matlock] has done very well is to articulate the classical realist position, which is that we should be listening to our adversaries because if not, and we push them into a corner, then they will respond with violence,” explained Nicolai Petro, a professor of political science at the University of Rhode Island on Sputnik's The Critical Hour. “But to take that position seriously, we have to respect their right to exist. And that may be the greatest flaw in our post-Cold War foreign policy, that we never really decided whether Russia as a country has a right to exist and couldn’t acknowledge to ourselves any legitimate scope for its national interests.”

That is evidenced by NATO’s continual expansion east, despite pledges not to when the Soviet Union collapsed., all the way up to Russia’s borders and culminating in Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, which is an existential threat to Russia while merely a geopolitical game for the United States and the UK, who are driving the war through their financing and political pressure on the Kiev regime.

“I’ve always felt that wars end when people decide that it’s no longer advantageous to them to fight,” explained Petro. “Now, the disadvantages of warfare - destruction of property, deaths, killings, destroying the prospects for future generations – are most obvious [for] Ukraine itself. Then, maybe secondarily I would put the leading countries of Western Europe, who it seems to me at least, on a treadmill towards increasing international irrelevance.

Noting that Russia is also suffering from the conflict, Petro said that left only the UK and the US as “beneficiaries” of the conflict, saying that they “are the ones who are currently suffering the least and able to continue the conflict, feeding it with money and weapons with, as they see it, minimal cost to themselves.”

Unfortunately for the American and British public, the benefits of the conflict do not go to them. Instead, it is the elites in those countries that benefit through the endless military contracts and what is sure to be the exploitation of the resources of whatever remains of Ukraine. That is why the media in the US has largely ignored Ukraine for more than a year, the glorious victory promised to the public is completely out of reach and so they hide the reality their policies created.

“What seems to also increasingly be the case, which did not used to be the case as much in the United States, is that this also involves the suppression of counter-narratives,” explained Petro. “And that’s why, unless I’m very much mistaken, we’ll see a very reduced scope for meaningful foreign policy discussion in the debate tonight. I expect sloganeering and nothing more.”

Instead of focusing on reality, pundits and politicians in the US distract the public with narratives they create, foremost among them the idea of American exceptionalism.

The idea that when we act in the world, we act for the benefit of all, not for our craven interests. And what we do is therefore morally irreproachable and as a result we can feel good about ourselves while we are ignoring the untidy parts of our history,” Petro explained. “And we have a long experience of that kind of sugarcoating.”

‘Clear and present danger’: US police given new UFO handbook
Police have been given guidelines on dealing with sightings of ‘anomalous’ objects in the sky

Police officers across the US have been issued a handbook on how to deal with reports of ‘unidentified anomalous phenomena’ (UAP).

The guidelines, which detail several past encounters, were sent out earlier this summer by the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCAA), which represents police executives from the largest cities in the US and Canada.

In the 11-page guide, the MCAA notes that UAPs detected in US airspace represent a “domain awareness gap”which poses a “clear and present danger to pilots and our soldiers that is more acute than ever.” It also cites reports by several government agencies, such as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, concluding that such phenomena are also a “clear threat to national security, since their capabilities and origins are unknown.”

The handbook provided details on several UFO investigations, and cited the testimonies of whistleblowers who have been involved in such incidents, such as former US Air Force officer and intelligence official David Grusch.

In one Congressional hearing on UAPs, Grusch claimed he had interviewed several Pentagon officials with direct knowledge of aircraft that were of “nonhuman” origin, who reported that so-called “biologics”were recovered from some of the craft.

The document also recalled the testimonies of US Navy pilots Ryang Graves and David Fravor, who described encountering UAPs on training missions. Fravor was the pilot that spotted and recorded the famous ‘Tic Tac’ UFO during a flight near California in 2004.

The booklet also provides several stories shared by officers who had encountered unknown aircraft while on duty.

One officer’s report claimed that he had once seen a triangular UFO in the sky with three dim green lights while driving in his patrol vehicle. He stressed that he was aware of what helicopters and airplanes looked like in the sky, and that what he saw was “unlike anything I had ever witnessed.”

Within an hour after the encounter, the officer claims to have responded to a call from a homeowner in the area that reported “something running outside of his home” which “did not sound like an animal.”

The MCAA guidebook concludes by providing a number of links to various UAP reporting websites, and encouraging police officers to report any bizarre incidents and sightings. At the same time, it is noted that the document does not represent the opinions of policies of the MCAA and is intended to share information collected from open sources.

MEANWHILE:

Busy day for me [LARRY JOHNSON]. I suppose my new name should be, Mouth of South Florida. I did the big three interviews today — Judge Napolitano, Nima and Danny Davis. The chats and discussions had a little overlap, but not much.

Before you watch the videos (or, watch them and then come back and read what I am about to write), I want to comment briefly on the report released today by the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the US debacle in retreating from Afghanistan in August of 2021. Not surprisingly, the Republican majority blames Biden and Harris while the Democrats — get ready for a shocker — blame Donald Trump. You know who didn’t catch any blame? At least, not yet? The Russians. But Putin and his crew ain’t out of the woods yet. There is still time, and I am sure some anti-Trumper or rabid Democrat will find a way to lay the sordid mess in Kabul at Moscow’s feet.

While I believe the person with ultimate responsibility for recreating the 1975 retreat from Saigon is Joe Biden, the report is really a damning indictment of the failure of the chain of command at the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs and the Commander of CENTCOM (aka Central Command).

There are at least two explanations for the failure to calmly and peacefully withdraw from Afghanistan. Explanation one — Biden was warned that the plan was fraught with peril and he ignored the advice of his military and intelligence leaders. Explanation two — Biden and his team were not warned, and he authorized the withdrawal without fully understanding the implications. Here is the summary of the majority report:

“Our investigation reveals the Biden-Harris administration had the information and opportunity to take necessary steps to plan for the inevitable collapse of the Afghan government, so we could safely evacuate U.S. personnel, American citizens, green card holders, and our brave Afghan allies. At each step of the way, however, the administration picked optics over security.

“As a result of the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to plan for all contingencies, the U.S. government conducted an emergency evacuation without the necessary personnel, supplies, and equipment. The administration’s dereliction of duty placed U.S. servicemembers and U.S. State Department personnel in mortal danger, where the Taliban – our sworn enemy – became the first line of defense. As a direct result of the failure to plan for all contingencies, 13 U.S. servicemembers and 170 Afghans were murdered in a terrorist attack at Abbey Gate on August 26, 2021, and 45 U.S. servicemembers and countless Afghans were injured. This was preventable.

“It has damaged U.S. credibility. It has emboldened our adversaries, and it has made the United States more at risk of an attack emanating from Afghanistan. And the moral injury to our veterans and servicemembers is generational. The administration’s unconditional surrender and the abandonment of our Afghan allies, who fought alongside the U.S. military against the Taliban – their brothers in arms – is a stain on this administration.

This rules out explanation two. Here is the problem I have with placing the full blame on Biden (blaming Harris is just petty politics because she was not a decision maker) — not a single officer in the Chain of Command, which includes Secretary of Defense Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Milley and the Commanding General of CENTCOM, resigned in protest. They knew this was a stupid, dangerous decision. But rather than make a statement by resigning, which might have altered the subsequent course of events, the whole damn lot stayed silent and followed an incredibly stupid order.

None of the General Officers wanted to put their future career in the private sector at risk by speaking out and resigning in protest. Nope, they were just following orders. The most absurd part of the report is the blame placed on State Department for “failing to plan a proper NEO.” Having worked at State, there is no way in hell that State has the competence or resources to conduct such planning. The one entity in the US National Security system that specializes in such planning is the US military. No one on the military side of the house — and this includes the Department of Defense — insisted on leading the planning. It is at this point that a man or woman of integrity would have thrown their stars on the table, walked out and blown the whistle. The generals remained silent and compliant. Disgusting.

I note in passing that the Soviets also “went to zero” in Afghanistan in 1988:

Pursuant to the Geneva Accords of 14 April 1988, the Soviet Union conducted a total military withdrawal from Afghanistan between 15 May 1988 and 15 February 1989.[2]Headed by the Soviet military officer Boris Gromov, the retreat of the 40th Army into the Union Republics of Central Asia formally brought the Soviet–Afghan War to a close after nearly a decade of fighting. It marked a significant development in the Afghan conflict, having served as the precursor event to the First Afghan Civil War.

Just one more example of Russian superiority over their US counterparts. No wonder we are losing in Ukraine with clowns like this in command.

9/11....

The 9/11 attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist strikes carried out by the extremist terror group al-Qaeda* on September 11, 2001. On that day, four commercial airliners were hijacked and deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Pennsylvania.

After the terrorist attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin, realizing the depth of what had happened, was the first to call then-US President George W. Bush to express his condolences over the shocking 9/11 attacks.

In a video, Putin addressed the US public, saying that Russians understood the feelings of the American people better than anyone else, and branded the attacks "a brazen affront...to civilized humanity."

The attacks claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 individuals, making it the deadliest act of terrorism targeting America in the country's history.

A 100-meter section of a bridge in the German city of Dresden collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday, seriously congesting local traffic and severing water pipes, local authorities have reported.

No one was hurt in the incident, though a tram passed over the Carola Bridge just minutes before the collapse, according to Bild.

Local police reported that officers heard a loud noise at around 2:59am. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene the bridge section had fully collapsed, a spokesperson told the outlet.

Security footage shows the moment the collapse occurred, accompanied by a burst of what appears to be dust and steam. A section of the structure with a footpath, cycle lane, and two sets of tram tracks over 100 meters long fell into the River Elbe below.

“In addition, due to the bursting of two large district heating pipes, we have the problem that the supply of hot water has come to a complete standstill in the entire state capital of Dresden,” fire brigade spokesman Michael Klahre said in a statement later in the day, warning of the risk of further collapse.

Water up to 115C burst out of the piping and ran into the surrounding area, Bild reported.

Streetcar and automotive traffic is diverted, the municipal transport company DVB announced on X.

While the Carola is one of four bridges over the Elbe in downtown Dresden, the regional capital, river traffic has been halted for an undetermined amount of time, according to city officials.

In June, Deutsche Welle warned that as many as 5,000 highway bridges in the country are in urgent need of repair. The same month, several German construction associations warned that planned federal budget cuts could prove “fatal” to the country’s infrastructure.
