only a couple of months to go to the end of the yuckraine war.....

War in Ukraine must end ‘this fall’ – Zelensky

Kiev has asked its Western helpers to redouble their pressure on Moscow

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has urged NATO countries to pressure Russia to agree to Kiev’s peace terms this fall. He made his statement during a meeting with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Regular gatherings at Ramstein are designed to coordinate military aid to Kiev.

Zelensky urged Western countries to help arrange joint production of weapons on Ukrainian soil, including drones and missiles.

“To achieve this, we need funding – we are ready to quickly produce everything that will help us bring this war to an end, namely, by putting decisive pressure on Russia for real peace,”Zelensky said, according to his website.

“Let’s make this fall a time for Russian aggression to fall – in a way that will end the war and restore a reliable international security order.”

Austin also stressed the importance of weapons manufacturing, saying that the US was “working with Ukraine to design and build a substitute for the S-300 surface-to-air missile system and the R-27 air-to-air missile.” Washington has set aside more than $200 million to purchase “critical components” to allow Ukraine to make drones and electronic-warfare systems, he said.

Kiev has faced several setbacks on the battlefield in recent months, with the Russian troops steadily making gains in the Donbass and advancing towards the city of Pokrovsk.

In the hope of forcing Moscow to recall most of its soldiers from the Donbass, Ukraine launched an invasion in Russia’s Kursk Region on August 6, capturing several villages and the border city of Sudzha. The Russian advances have not stopped, however.

By sending its most well-equipped and experienced units in Kursk, the Ukrainian army has “weakened” its positions on other fronts, Russian President Vladimir Putin said this week. He added that the Russian forces have only increased their push in the Donbass.

Peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev broke down in the spring of 2022. Moscow has since stated that Zelensky’s demand to restore Ukraine to its 1991 borders was completely unacceptable.

Speaking on Monday, Putin said that Russia was ready to reopen peace negotiations, but only on its own terms. But Moscow needs to neutralize Ukrainian attempts to “destabilize the situation” in Kursk and other border regions first, he stressed.

not the russians....

Fires continue at military-industrial facilities that provide for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine throughout Europe. It was revealed that on the night of September 6, one of them was reported in Denmark.

As a result of the attack, fire destroyed a large warehouse of the Danish volunteer organization Autukrania biler til Ukraine in Copenhagen. The organisation has been supplying the Ukrainian military with military equipment for more than two years. A lot of equipment reportedly burned down, including night visual systems, bulletproof vests, ammunition and cars for NATO mercenaries.

According to Russian military sources, the arson was set by Ukrainian citizens members of the partisan resistance movement called Opir (resistance).

“The activities of the Opir movement have long gone beyond the amateur level, the number of participants has increased many times, and their capabilities to counter assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine have also increased,” the reports say.

The movement is also reportedly responsible for arsons set throughout Ukraine. As a result of daily sabotage attacks, vehicles of Ukrainian servicemen and officers of mobilisation centers, warehouses etc are burning in different cities. The members of the movement are engaged not only in arson attacks in Ukraine, but also operate very effectively outside its borders, destroying military and humanitarian aid, as well as logistics, infrastructure and other facilities in different NATO countries, including Germany, Bulgaria, Poland, Moldova etc.

sad....

Meeting Ukraine's evacuees: 'How to carry home with you?' Hanna Sokolova-Stekh

Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad are now closer to the frontline and the cities are emptying out. But leaving a life behind is difficult, sad and dangerous, evacuees told DW.

The Russian military is getting closer and closer to Myrnohrad and the frontline is now less than 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the city. Myrnohrad regularly comes under fire and as a result, the city's population has dropped from around 47,000 to less than 2,000, according to local authorities.

Can't force people to leave

The White Angels police unit is bringing people out of the city in an armored minibus. Inside the vehicle are bullet proof vests and helmets of all sizes, for children and for adults.

"There's practically no children left here now," Yudin says. "There are still two families who have children and they're looking for accommodation [elsewhere] but they'll leave on their own."

The authorities can't force inhabitants to leave, Yudin explains.

He himself had to leave his hometown, Avdiivka, so he knows how hard it is for people to give up their homes.

"I'll say Avdiivka is a good example — there's neither a functioning hospital there anymore nor any ambulance service. Nobody is there to help with an evacuation," Yudin says. This is how he often convinces locals to evacuate.

Russian drone attacks

Today the White Angels are on their way to pick up two men who do want to be evacuated. They live on the southern edge of the city, where there are often Russian drone attacks. But when the team gets there, they can't find the men. They try to reach them by phone. While they do so, we hear the loud barking of a neighborhood dog. There are a few dogs on the streets, most likely left behind when their families evacuated.

It turns out that one of the men, Vitaly, is making his way to Pokrovsk on foot; that's where evacuation trains are leaving from. The police team catches up with him and helps load his bags into the minivan. Then they find the other man, Sergei, in a bus stop. There are three women at the bus stop too but they say they're staying — for now.

"We can still handle it," one of them tells the team.

The police officers drive further, towards Pokrovsk. The two men in the vehicle seem sad and hardly speak. There's a bus waiting for them in Pokrovsk, which will take them to Pavlohrad in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region. After that, they'll head to a shelter for displaced people in Kropyvnytskyi.

 City's population dropping

Pokrovsk is southwest of Myrnohrad. According to regional authorities, there are still 26,000 people in the city, which once had a population of around 60,000. Of those remaining, about a thousand are children.

In the mornings, Pokrovsk is still fairly lively. Locals stroll along streets where markets and vegetable stands sell their wares. One of the sellers there, Natalya, says she'll think about evacuating once she's sold everything.

"Where would I go?," she asks. "Not everyone can afford to rent another apartment."

Another of the traders, Sergei, says he'd like to stay but he wants his child to be brought to safety.

Around midday, Pokrovsk's train station starts to get busy. A couple of pensioners sit on a bench on the platform, surrounded by large bags.

"See what's happening here?" Volodymyr tells us. He means the shooting and the bombing. That's why he and his wife, Halyna, are leaving the city.

"It is so sad that our city is being given up," Halyna adds.

The couple have rented a house in a village in the Dnipropetrovsk region and they're moving there bit by bit. "But you can't take everything with you at once," Volodymyr shrugs. He's also worried their pension won't cover their living costs in their new home.

A 24-hour trip west

Also waiting at the station is 80-year-old Lyubov. "I don't know if I'm going to survive all this," she concedes, as she explains how it will take her 24 hours to get to the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. From Lviv, she'll head for the Carpathian region.

The older woman is being helped on her journey by a soldier sitting next to her. He's also waiting for a train to western Ukraine. He and a number of his comrades managed to get out of the city of Novohrodivka, which was overtaken by the Russian army in late August.

Rescue workers and volunteers are helping those with limited mobility board the train.

"It would be better to die than to live as an invalid," says Ludmila, 85, who comes from Rodynske. Near her on the train are her daughter, Nelya, and Nelya's mother-in-law, Kateryna, who's 85.

The three have decided to leave because, Nelya says, "it's getting pretty loud here and the police already called us [about evacuating]." Her teenage son and older daughter are waiting for them in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. From there, they want to go together to Finland.

"It's sad to leave the place where you were born and where you grew up," Nelya continues. As she speaks, her mother begins to cry. The trio had earlier decided not to leave home but as Rodynske became empty of people, they agreed to evacuate.
