peace deal please....

Kiev launched its cross-border incursion into Kursk Region in an attempt to instill fear among the Russian population, a senior aide to Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has said.

Ukrainian forces began an offensive in the Russian region earlier this week, allocating troops for the operation despite being pushed back elsewhere on the front line. Kiev’s objectives include placing Russians under psychological pressure in a bid to erode support for their government, Mikhail Podoliak stated in a television interview on Thursday.

“Today they have a war that is expanding deeper inside the Russian Federation. Will they fear that? Yes,”he claimed. “Do they respond to anything but fear? No, and everyone should realize that at last.”

Russian officials have described the Ukrainian attack as terrorist in nature, citing apparent deliberate attacks on civilian targets. A Ukrainian kamikaze drone hit an ambulance in Kursk Region on Tuesday, killing its driver and a paramedic and injuring a doctor, Governor Andrey Smirnov said.

Podoliak claimed that Kiev’s ultimate goal of terrorizing Russians was aimed at securing a stronger position during eventual peace talks with Moscow. Zelensky himself made similar remarks in a video statement on Thursday.

“The more pressure is applied to Russia… the closer peace will be – a just peace through just force,” he said, thanking Ukrainian troops for their actions.

Zelensky claims that a “just” end to the conflict can only be reached through his own peace formula, which includes Kiev asserting control over all the land it claims under its sovereignty, as well as war reparations and a tribunal for senior Russian officials. Moscow has rejected the idea as detached from reality and unworthy of consideration.

The Ukrainian leader has claimed on several recent occasions that Russia could be invited to a summit later this year, where it would supposedly be pressured by the international community into accepting Kiev’s terms. A Swiss-hosted “peace summit” in June – to which Moscow wasn’t invited – was widely perceived as a failure for Ukrainian diplomacy, considering the underwhelming content of its final communique.

Russian forces continue to inflict heavy losses on Ukrainian troops that crossed the border into Kursk Region earlier this week, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Friday, providing an estimate of Kiev’s casualties in the incursion.

According to the ministry, Ukraine has lost up to 945 soldiers as well as 102 armored vehicles, including 12 tanks and 17 armored personnel carriers. The figures include more than 280 troops and 27 armored vehicles destroyed over the past 24 hours in areas bordering Kursk Region, Moscow added.

The report also stated that Russian airstrikes have recently destroyed five Stryker armored personnel carriers as well as a Ukrainian military column that consisted of a tank, four APCs, and a Kozak combat vehicle.

The ministry added that the operation to repel and destroy Ukraine’s forces in the region continues, and that the Russian military, aided by airstrikes and artillery fire, has prevented Kiev’s attempts to conduct raids deep into Russian territory in Kursk Region.

The Russian military has intercepted an attempted landing by Ukrainian marines near Kherson and destroyed a group of sea drones headed for Crimea, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

Overnight, a group of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) was detected on approach to the Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol.

Combat camera footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday showed them being destroyed in the water.

“The on-duty fire systems destroyed seven unmanned boats in the Black Sea,” the ministry said, without elaborating.

Meanwhile, a group of Ukrainian commandos tried to land at the tip of the Kinburn Peninsula, overlooking the mouth of the Dnieper, early on Friday.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, four boats approached the Kinburn Spit, attempting to land a “sabotage and reconnaissance group.” Under covering fire from two of the boats, about a dozen troops stormed the beach.

kiev wants US approval....

Kiev wants the US to allow the use of long-range ATACMS missiles to support its cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region, the Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing a senior official. Such approval could reportedly give Ukraine a stronger hand in talks with Moscow.

Ukrainian forces launched the cross-border attack – the largest since the start of the conflict – in Kursk Region’s Sudzha district on Tuesday. The Russian military estimated that up to 1,000 Ukrainian troops and dozens of Western-supplied heavy tanks and armored personnel carriers took part in the attack.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the incursion as a “large-scale provocation,” adding that the Ukrainian military was conducting “indiscriminate strikes” on civilians, residential buildings and ambulances. The US, Kiev’s key backer, has insisted that Ukraine’s attack is not escalatory, and that the country is “taking action to protect themselves.”

While Ukrainian forces have reportedly made some gains in the district, which is home to a key gas metering station that Russia uses to transport energy to the EU, Moscow said Kiev’s advance had been halted and estimated Ukrainian losses at more than 400 troops and dozens of armored vehicles.

As fighting continues in the region, an aide to Vladimir Zelensky told the Washington Post on condition of anonymity that Ukrainian officials have requested US approval to conduct strikes using ATACMS – which have a range of up to 300km – to target Russian airfields. The paper noted that this decision “could allow Kiev to hold a portion of Kursk (Region) for some time.”

“This will give them the leverage they need for negotiations with Russia — this is what it’s all about,” the adviser added, echoing an earlier statement made by Mikhail Podoliak, another senior Zelensky aide.

In late May, the US allowed Ukraine to use American-made weapons to hit targets deep inside Russia in response to Moscow’s advance in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, which sought to protect civilians from Kiev’s recurring artillery strikes. Media reports suggested that the range of Ukrainian strikes was limited to about 100km, meaning that some high-priority targets such as airfields remained beyond Kiev’s reach. Ukraine has repeatedly asked the US to lift those restrictions.

Meanwhile, the Post noted that the Kursk incursion comes as Ukrainian officials “have expressed some sense of urgency” to improve their military position before the November presidential elections in the US, amid concerns that Republican candidate Donald Trump could win the vote. The latter has repeatedly vowed to end the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours if elected, while criticizing military aid to Kiev.

What you need to know

The acting governor of Kursk oblast, Alexei Smirnov, said on Telegram on Saturday night that he had told local authorities to accelerate efforts to move civilians from areas at risk of fighting with Ukrainian troops.

Russian media quoted the regional Emergencies Ministry in the border region of Kursk as saying that more than 76,000 people have been relocated to safer areas in recent days since the surprise Ukrainian incursion.

Ukrainian forces opened up a new front in Russian oblast bordering northeastern Ukraine in recent days, seemingly vying for a foothold, or at least a disruptive presence, in Russian territory. Kursk has since declared a state of emergency.

Meanwhile, a man and his 4-year-old son were killed in a Russian missile strike near Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was likely Moscow used a North Korean missile in the attack.

It has been nearly one week since Ukrainian forces launched an incursion over the Russia border and into the Kursk region, and it seems as though the West has been trying to figure out "Why" they would do such a thing ever since.

That includes military analysts quoted by the New York Times who questioned "why Ukraine would throw scarce resources into a risky assault in a new area at a time when it is fighting pitched battles to hold on to positions in its own territory,” and a military analyst for the European Council on Foreign Relations, who told Spiegel magazine that the assault may be the "beginning of the end" for the Kiev regime.

International Relations and Security Analyst Mark Sleboda noted that Kiev will be forced to pay a heavy price by the Russian Military in the long term for the incursion that will amount to nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at making headlines in the short term...

going for broke....

NATO and its Kiev proxy in last roll of the dice

BY Finian CUNNINGHAM

The NATO NeoNazi regime in Kiev is going for broke, as its Third Reich forbears did during World War Two. This time around, though, the fascists have a nuclear terrorist card to play.

As in the endgame of World War Two, the Nazi Wehrmacht tried to break out in Kursk as a way to divert from battlefield losses elsewhere on the crumbling Eastern Front. The gamble proved futile then and looks like repeating disastrously today.

Vladimir Zelensky, the illegitimate puppet president of Ukraine, is out of troops and money. His insufferable begging routine for more weapons and money has become played out. His country is set to default on eye-watering debts to international creditors. Russia’s military advances in the Donbass – formerly eastern Ukraine now part of the Russian Federation – have succeeded in pushing the Kiev regime to the brink of collapse despite the latter receiving hundreds of billions of dollars worth of NATO weaponry.

Zelensky, who is still clinging on to power nearly six months after he cancelled elections, senses the end is nigh for his corrupt regime and its war racket. With over 600,000 dead soldiers and remaining civilians hiding or fleeing in fear of conscription, the ex-comedian throws the dice with a few brigades despatched on a suicide cross-border raid on Russia’s Kursk region.

“The Kursk maneuver could herald the end of Ukraine militarily,” remarked Gustav Gressel, a former Austrian defense ministry official, in an interview with Der Spiegel.

Gressel suggested that the Ukrainian brigades represent the final reserves for the NATO-backed Kiev regime. Once they are wiped out by the superior Russian forces then there will be nothing left for the Kiev side.

The BBC reported – with an air of glee – that convoys of troops are heading from Ukraine’s Sumy region across the border into Russia’s Kursk. The offensive has been going on for a week now, which Moscow says involves indiscriminate attacks on civilians and residential homes. The Kiev regime has said candidly that the objective is to “instill fear” among civilians. That’s a brazen admission of terrorism.

If Kiev’s other objective is to divert Russian forces from Donbass, that doesn’t seem to be working. Russian forces continue to make gains in the direction 0f Donbass – the main battlefield of this conflict.

So, what is the Zelensky junta playing at? It’s a terror tantrum to try to show his NATO sponsors that their proxy regime is still worth backing. The wasting of Ukrainian military lives is a desperate “working off loans for his masters”, as Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova put it.

Sending his people to die is Zelensky’s attempt to show his regime is still “liquid”. But it’s a final act of desperation. When this futile foray into Kursk is spent then it’s over.

As part of the final desperate act, the nuclear terrorism card is also being played – again.

While the incursion in Kursk is going on, the Ukrainian side has tried to attack the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant and the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. The ZNPP has come under constant shelling from the Armed Forces of Ukraine enabled with U.S.-made HIMARS missiles and other NATO weapons since Russia took over the civilian power plant – the largest in Europe – soon after the conflict erupted in February 2022. Russia took control at an earlier stage precisely because it anticipated that if it didn’t, the Kiev regime would use it as a false flag provocation regardless of the radiological contamination of Europe.

In the latest strike, one of the cooling towers at the ZNPP was set on fire. Russia saysthe tower was hit by a drone. Moscow denounced what it called “nuclear terrorism” and it called on the international community to sanction Ukraine.

Moscow is wasting its breath. Numerous calls for condemnation over previous air strikes on the ZNPP by the Ukrainian side have been ignored or willfully covered up by the West.

Shamefully, the United Nations nuclear inspection body, the International Atomic Energy Agency, has also participated in the charade of pretending to not know who is attacking the ZNPP. Rafael Grossi, the IAEA director, acts like Manuel, the hapless waiter in Fawlty Towers: “I know nothing.”

The Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Zakharova nailed it with caustic irony, asking rhetorically: “Where is Rafael Grossi and the entire IAEA team?”

She added in a concise summary: “The terrorists in Kiev, under the leadership of the collective West, destroyed their country, ruined the people of Ukraine, undermined world energy and food security, and now they have taken up nuclear terror on the continent [of Europe]”.

Laughably, the BBC and Guardian reported that Russia and Ukraine are “trading blame” for who is behind the attack on the ZNPP.

The British media outlets even quoted nonsense from Zelensky claiming that Russia had caused the fire (in a power plant it controls) by burning auto tires in one of the cooling towers. In comments belying projection, Zelensky said Russia was “blackmailing the world”.

The Kiev regime has committed countless false-flag atrocities – from murdering its own people in the “Bucha massacre” to shelling children’s hospitals, theaters and apartment blocks. Nothing is beyond the depravity of this NeoNazi outfit. Attacking the nuclear plants in Kursk and Zaporozhye in a calculated gamble for inciting deeper NATO involvement is the hallmark of this regime.

As Gressel, the former Austrian military policymaker remarked, the Ukrainian regime is acting like “an unreliable daredevil”.

It’s going down and seems ready to take the rest of the world with it.

However, ultimately, it is the United States and its NATO war machine that are responsible for the calamitous situation. The empire of lies created the terrorist Frankenstein monster solely for its reckless and criminal geopolitical ambitions against Russia to maintain its waning imperial power. The proxy war is lost in the worst debacle for Western imperialism possibly since the end of World War Two. Washington, the EU and NATO stand naked as spectacles of ignominy and disgrace. That presents an unprecedented precarious dilemma for the defeated U.S. hegemon where all sorts of insane acts can be expected.

a meatgrinder.....

Moon of Alabama

On the seventh day, the incursion of the Ukrainian army into the Russian Kursk region seems to have stopped. The front lines harden and the Russian side uses its artillery and bombing to push it back.

Three Ukrainian brigades are involved, plus a number of battalions which have been dispatched away from their brigades engaged in other parts of the front. The 80th and 82nd Parachute Brigades are the main forces, which were partly trained in Britain and Germany and use Western equipment. The 22nd Mechanized Brigade is the third major unit. There are then five to ten battalions from various other brigades.

The Economist, reports (archive) about the operation carried out in a hospital in Sumy:

«The report of injuries in Ukraine suggests that it was no walk in the park, and remains risky. The hospital room smells of sacrifice: dirt, blood and rancid sweat. Burnt foil bandages line the hallway. In the courtyard, the patients, some wrapped like mummies from head to toe in bandages, smoke furiously. Angol, a 28-year-old paratrooper from the 33rd Brigade, looks like a Christmas tree. His left arm is immobilized by a fixation device. Tubes, bags and wires protrude from his body. He was also about 30 km away in Russia when his luck changed. He is not sure if it was artillery or a bomb that hit him. Perhaps it was the fire of the allies; there were many. All he remembers is throwing himself to the ground and shouting “300,” the code for injured. The Russians were on the run until then, he insists, abandoning their equipment and munitions as quickly as they could.».

No wonder the Russian border troops fled. They were mostly conscripts and were not sufficiently armed to resist an attack with armor:

«Some aspects of the Ukrainian operation appear to have been carefully planned. Operational security provided the element of surprise, a crucial aspect of warfare. “We sent our most combat-ready units to the weakest point on their border,” says a general staff source deployed to the region. “The conscripted soldiers faced the paratroopers and simply surrendered.” But other aspects of the operation indicate a certain haste in the preparation. The three soldiers cited in this article were withdrawn, without rest, from the pressured front lines in the east with barely a day's notice».

The Ukrainian army showed up with the best soldiers it had left, plus a few extras that had been thrown there. Russian units that were moved to the border put an end to the Ukrainian movement. The mobile reconnaissance platoons that the Ukrainians sent on the roads to outflank the towns have been largely eliminated. The huge progress seen on some friendly maps of Ukraine now looks much smaller. About thirty small settlements were taken, but even the local administrative center of Sudzha, which previously had 6000 inhabitants, was not completely conquered.

A new Ukrainian attempt to cross the border at the Kolotilovka checkpoint in the Belgrade region failed and Ukrainian units involved suffered losses.

Russia therefore mainly contained the Ukrainian assault. The operation is now a new meat grinder like Krinky on the Southern Front was before. An operationally isolated attrition pit in which the Ukrainians will have to feed more and more reserves they don't have or retreat from one treeline to the next.

Russian drones and bombers are now leading the fight. The Russian Ministry of Defense says that the Ukrainian incursion lost much of its armored equipment (automatic translation):

«In total, during the fighting in the Kursk region, the enemy lost up to 1610 servicemen, 32 tanks, 23 armored personnel carriers, 17 infantry fighting vehicles, 136 armored fighting vehicles, 47 vehicles , four anti-aircraft missile systems, a multiple launch rocket launcher and 13 field artillery pieces».

The Ukrainian side was aware of the danger that its operation could represent. As written The Economist, :

«Ukraine does not seem to be strengthening its positions in any serious sense. “Our calf needs a wolf,” warns the security source, who uses a local saying to warn against overly ambitious goals. (…)

Source warns against comparing Kursk incursion with Ukraine's rapid and successful recapture of much of Kharkiv province in late 2022. Russian military takes war more seriously now, he says: “The danger is that we fall into a trap and that Russia breaks our teeth”».

It seems to me that is exactly what happened. It was completely predictable.

The operation was, however, a momentary success, because it increased the morale of the Ukrainians:

«Tired, dirty and exhausted, the soldiers say they do not regret any part of the risky operation that has already killed dozens of their comrades: they would do it again in a heartbeat. «For the first time in a long time, we have movement,” Angol said. “I felt like a tiger”».

This week of good news for Ukraine is coming to an end. The units involved, which have already lost an entire brigade of equipment, will be reduced even further. There will be no one to replace them. In the Donbass, the Russian army continues its offensive against weakened and retreating Ukrainian units. New York, Chasiv Yar and Toretsk will soon be taken.

There will soon be questions asked in kyiv, “What was the point?” To which no one will have a good answer. Ukraine's commander-in-chief, General Syrski, may have to leave the region even though pressure to carry out this desperate operation came from elsewhere, as the Times (archive:

«President Zelensky's fingerprints are everywhere. For several months, it has been a secret from kyiv that the president has been urging his military leaders to launch a summer offensive.

Given the labor and resource problems in Ukraine, they have been hesitant. But Zelensky is desperate to overturn the narrative that Ukraine is losing its war».

Zelensky believed that the Kursk operation would help to maintain the war, with Russia failing over time and Ukraine becoming the winner. The Russian Duma announced today that there will be no further mobilizations. Zelensky had hoped for mobilization and unrest. There will be no uprising in Russia because of the Kursk incursion, just an increase in nationalism.

The week-long operations were certainly not enough to change the long-term narrative. The upsurge it caused in kyiv and elsewhere will soon give way to a deep depression.

kyiv losses....

KYIV LOST ITS VICTIM GAME

Fighting in the Kursk region has been ongoing for more than a week. After waiting for the results, Kyiv finally recognized its military operational failures on Russian territory.

The Ukrainian offensive in Russia is a risky bet that pursues mainly political and media goals, rather than military ones. After the Ukrainian army gained a foothold, Ukrainian propaganda and political leadership enter the battle to achieve the main objectives of the operation. As usual, using their favorite methods of fake messages, outright lies and information manipulation.

The main problem for Kyiv is that it has lost its victim game. Despite the decade-long attempts by the MSM to brainwash the public, large-scale attacks on the Russian border using NATO military equipment have destroyed the myth of Ukraine as a victim.

Kyiv has turned into an aggressor, and the terrorist warfare of its Nazi affiliated military adds revolting touches to its portrait. The facts confirm numerous war crimes committed by the Ukrainian military in the occupied Russian settlements. The Ukrainians have become famous for looting, murders and kidnappings of pro-Russian civilians from the very beginning of the war in the Donbas. They also hunted ambulance crews with drones, ambushed and shot down civilian vehicles during their previous attacks in areas bordering Russia.

Unfortunately, they commit the same crimes in the Kursk region. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened criminal cases against Ukrainian military commanders. The captured Ukrainian servicemen confirm their crimes. Horrific footage of Ukrainian atrocities is yet to be widely disseminated.

In its turn, Kyiv is playing its media games, trying to be proactive before the crimes of the Ukrainians become widely known. As expected, the Security Service of Ukraine stated that Russia may soon stage crimes on the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region. This is not the first time Kyiv has tried to blame others for its own failures. Does anyone remember the shameless stage of the Bucha massacre, which failed despite the efforts of Western leaders and their entire propaganda machine?

Ukrainian Nazis are also deploying chemical weapons in the Kursk region, including those supplied by NATO. Earlier, their use by Ukrainian troops was confirmed on the Ukrainian front.

Kyiv is used to hiding its true face so that the Western population does not get greedy for multibillion-dollar supplies. However, it cannot hide the victories of the Russian army. The situation in the Kursk region remains tense, but Russian reinforcements managed to stop the advance of Ukrainian troops and inflict heavy losses on the enemy. At the same time, the pace of the Russian offensive increased in the Donbass. Over the past few days, Russian troops have achieved new gains in the Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Ugledar, Chasov Yar and Kharkiv directions.
