US President Joe Biden, along with his predecessors Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, were heckled by pro-Palestine protesters on Thursday night at a fundraiser organized by the Democratic Party.

The campaign event at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, which raised a record-breaking $25 million, was disrupted by demonstrators demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The three presidents were being interviewed by late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert, when they were unexpectedly shouted down by the protesters.

One woman warned Biden he had “blood on his hands” over his stance on the war in Gaza. “Shame on you Joe Biden! You are funding genocide in Palestine, and no amount of false concern…” she cried. Another shouted: “You’re out of your f***ing minds.”

Although they were removed by security, the event was interrupted at least five times by demonstrators, according to media reports.

Outside the venue, hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters swarmed the iconic Radio City Music Hall. The demonstrators, protesting Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza and his continued support for Israel, chanted slogans including “Genocide Joe has got to go!” and “Free, Free Palestine.” Many waved Palestinian flags while others held signs denouncing Biden as a “war criminal.”

Israel declared war on Hamas after the militant group unexpectedly attacked southern Israeli cities on October 7, killing some 1,200 people and taking over 200 hostages. More than 32,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the Israeli bombardments of the enclave began, according to local authorities.

The UN has warned of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with dire shortages of food and medicine. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected international calls for a ceasefire and vowed to continue the war until Israel wins a “total victory” over Hamas.

The New York event, part of Biden’s reelection effort, offered donors different tiers of access depending on how much money they donated to the campaign. Donors could give $100,000 for a photo with all three presidents, and $250,000 for access to an on-site reception.

A donation of $500,000 would reportedly secure donors an invite to an even more exclusive gathering. Supporters unable to shell out the big bucks were told they could dial into the event virtually for $25.

WASHINGTON: Democrats say a star-studded event featuring three presidents, one hip-hop queen and a talk show host will add a record $US25 million ($38 million) to their coffers to help President Joe Biden to keep Donald Trump out of the White House.

More than 5000 people attended Radio City Music Hall in New York for the sold-out fundraiser. Seats started at $US250 and the most expensive – including a photo with Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz – would set you back $US100,000. Donors wishing to pay $US500,000 had access to an exclusive reception.

In a rare gathering, all three Democrat presidents appeared on stage for an ‘‘armchair conversation’’ with The Late Show host Stephen Colbert. There were performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo and Lea Michele, and actress-comedian Mindy Kaling was on MC duties.

For an election that shapes as the most expensive to date, Democrats also want to widen the fundraising gap against Trump, who has amassed his own campaign war chest by selling everything from T-shirts bearing his prison mugshot to dinners at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

This week, the presumptive Republican nominee even began spruiking $US60 ‘‘God Bless the USA’’ bibles inspired by the namesake Lee Greenwood song that opens every Trump rally.

The former president trails the incumbent in fundraising so far this year. Federal filings showed Biden’s re-election campaign had $US71 million on hand at the end of February against $US33.5 million in Trump’s account.

Trump has solicited millions in donations on the back of his legal woes, but he is also spending hundreds of millions to fight them.

So far, he’s been fined almost half-a-billion dollars for fraudulently inflating the value of his businesses and $US83 million for sexually assaulting and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll.

He is also spending money to delay four criminal trials.

Trump wrote in a fundraising email seeking donations ahead of Biden’s New York fundraiser: ‘‘In a few short hours, the FIRST EVER Democrat fundraiser with Obama, Bill Clinton and Crooked Joe Biden will begin. Hundreds of deranged Hollywood liberals will be in attendance, and they will open their wallets to fund the DESTRUCTION OF OUR COUNTRY! $25 MILLION WILL BE RAISED TO DEFEAT US!’’

Biden, however, has his own political problems. Polls show he is virtually neck-and-neck with Trump, or in some cases, behind him in key battleground states.

His staple coalition of supporters – young people, black voters, Latinos – appears to be fraying.

Most Americans say they have little enthusiasm for a Trump-Biden rematch, which could result in voters not showing up in November, or potentially choosing a third-party candidate such as Robert F. Kennedy jnr.

The war in Gaza is testing Biden’s resolve domestically. The fundraiser was punctuated by protests inside the massive auditorium, as attendees rose at several different moments to shout over the discussion, citing Biden’s backing of Israel in the Hamas war that has killed more than 30,000 in Gaza.

‘‘Shame on you, Joe Biden’’ one yelled, Reuters reported.

Obama said Biden had ‘‘moral clarity’’ on the Israel issue and was willing to listen to all sides in this debate and find common ground. When a protester interrupted Obama, he snapped back: ‘‘You can’t just talk and not listen... That’s what the other side does.’’

Democrats hope the starstudded event will give the president another chance to pique enthusiasm and build momentum for the months ahead.

‘‘Unlike our opponent, every dollar we’re raising is going to reach the voters who will decide this election – communicating the President’s historic record, his vision for the future and laying plain the stakes of this election,’’ said Biden-Harris 2024 campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg.

‘‘The numbers don’t lie.’’

For the uninitiated, I will first explain that the FSB is the successor organization to the famous and much feared KGB of the Soviet Union. However, today's FSB might be better compared to the FBI in the United States. It deals with domestic crime of all kinds and threats to Russian civilians, such as terrorism. The agency and its head rarely make headlines.

In this regard, the FSB is less visible, both in Russia and abroad, than the foreign intelligence service headed by Sergei Naryshkin, a state figure who spent five years this millennium as chairman of the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, and three years as head of the presidential administration. In both positions, Naryshkin was very often seen on television performing his duties.

In contrast, Bortnikov has spent the last 15 years in his FSB offices, out of sight. Yesterday, he met with Russian state television journalist Pavel Zarubin for an interview, then allowed himself to be questioned by a group of other journalists. This spontaneous question-and-answer session was then broadcast on the television news. Bortnikov's words are extraordinary and have a direct bearing on the question of whether you and I should now seek fallout shelters. Unfortunately, you won't find any of this in the feature stories of today's mainstream media. THE Financial Times, for example, relates Xi's meeting with CEOs of American companies to renew ties: interesting, but not very relevant if we are at the dawn of the Third World War.

Bortnikov is by definition a member of Vladimir Putin's inner circle of advisors. He, Putin and Naryshkin are about the same age. At 72, Bortnikov is only a few years older.

I was particularly struck by his confidence and careful, carefully considered choice of words as he outlined the direction of the investigation with transparency and an unaffected demeanor.

The journalists all wanted to know who was behind the terrorist attack. Bortnikov answered them… and us: the United States, Great Britain and Ukraine are behind the terrorist act committed by Islamist extremists.

Bortnikov said initial findings indicate that the four perpetrators of the massacre drove to the border with Ukraine where they were expected on the other side. He explained very calmly that the involvement of foreign powers was being clarified and that he would not say anything out of emotion, but would wait until the facts were firmly gathered before presenting them.

Nevertheless, the fact that he named the United States, Great Britain and Ukraine as the likely puppet masters of the terrorist act was quite newsworthy. Recall that following the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines, the most significant attack in the last 50 years against essential civilian infrastructure globally, Russian officials did not point the finger at any country. There were insinuations, but no direct accusations like those we heard from Bortnikov.

Meanwhile, in addition to Bortnikov's discussion with journalists, many new developments regarding the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall were broadcast yesterday by Russian state television's news and analysis program, "Sixty Minutes". In particular, we learned that during the last days of February and the first two days of March, two of the four attackers were in Istanbul. The departure and arrival of one of them at Moscow airport was filmed. We were told which hotels they stayed in, and selfies and other photos taken by one of them in Istanbul were displayed on the screen. It is still unclear who they met in Türkiye. However, the date itself is very important, as it was pointed out that they returned to Moscow to carry out a terrorist attack on March 8, International Women's Day, a sacred date in the Russian calendar. Had they done so that day, the effect would have been catastrophic for Russia's presidential elections a week later.

However, according to “Sixty Minutes", it was determined that Russian state security on March 8 was too tight for the terrorist mission to succeed and the United States decided to end this operation. It is worth noting that it was around this time that Victoria Nuland submitted her resignation to the State Department (March 5). The possible causal link here certainly deserves attention from my peers in the American “dissident” community.

Regardless, the storyline that was explored later in the day on the show “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” is that the Ukrainians decided to carry out the terrorist attack a week after the Russian presidential elections, when it lost most of its justification. They did so over Washington's objections.

From time to time, readers ask me why I pay attention to shows like Vladimir Solovyov's. These skeptics tend to ignore that Solovyov invites not only the usual irresponsible academics and journalists who can amuse the public, but also very serious statesmen who are close to the center of power in Russia and exercise influence over the conduct of the foreign and domestic policy, including committee chairmen and other key figures in the State Duma.

So yesterday evening we heard from a member of the Committee on Relations with the Commonwealth of Independent States (former Soviet Union). Referring to the continuing terrorist attacks against civilians in the Russian border region of Belgorod from the neighboring town of Kharkiv (Ukraine), he said it was time to raze Kharkiv, to issue a warning to the population that she takes her car and heads west, then blows everything up. Kharkiv is also the second most populated city in Ukraine after kyiv.

Generally speaking, the mood of the panelists and the host Solovyov himself is changing dramatically: Ukraine is considered an enemy state and the sooner it is eliminated, the better. Last night there was talk of the need for missile strikes to destroy the presidential palace in kyiv as well as all military and other government decision-making centers in the capital.

As we have observed repeatedly over the past two years, President Putin has been a voice of moderation and restraint, opposing actions that could precipitate World War III. This is clearly coming to an end when his own FSB director names the US and UK as the planners of the biggest terrorist attack in Russia in 20 years.
