The military conflict in Ukraine, like many before it is inexorably tied to the media – particularly the Western media. The amount of disinformation that the West has contrived and disseminated in order to stoke support for Ukraine or at least muddy the waters, is terrifying. Every corner of the Anglo-American-controlled media, from CNN to The Guardian, from BBC to Foreign Affairs, has primarily shown only one side of the story.

 

The media perennially has traduced Russia and inflated its losses, while simultaneously portraying the Ukrainian forces as heroes and victors. This sort of one-dimensional reporting was also evident in the war against Iraq, the Syrian civil war, the recent China-Taiwan tensions, and countless other cases where the US and its allies are touted as angelic and the antithetical forces as demonic.

The truth is that the  proxy war in Ukraine  is currently a war of attrition that Russia is winning. Slowly and surely the Russian forces are bleeding out the Ukrainian resistance and subsequently draining the vast munitions, tanks, and weapons of NATO that the latter is providing Ukraine. This is not to say that Russia has not fared any losses or setbacks – of course, they have –, however, the grim picture painted by the Western media about them is far from the truth.

The current counteroffensive has been atrocious for the Ukrainians. After the humiliation of Bakhmut which was captured by a private military company and led to high Ukrainian casualties, the country was overly optimistic for the current coveted offensive. The news for Ukraine, however, is not good. Analysts like US Army Lt Col Daniel Davis write, “The cold, hard truth in the war between Russia and Ukraine today is that Ukraine’s last-gasp offensive has failed, and no amount of spin will change the outcome.” The media also long reported that the Western/NATO weapons and NATO’s “advanced training” will turn the tide of the war, but “..it was nearly impossible for Ukraine to transform itself in a matter of weeks or a few months of training and a hodge-podge of NATO gear.”

Another US colonel, Douglas Macgregor, who was active in the Gulf War, recently published a video on his YouTube channel titled “The war is over, Russia has won”. For months, Macgregor has been exposing Washington’s lies and illuminating the military ground realities. He has stated that around 300,000 to 350,000 Ukrainians have been killed. Other independent analysts such as Brian Berletic have also been deobfuscating the West’s deceits. He opines that the Ukrainian military currently stands exhausted, and they cannot “reconstitute these brigades that have badly mauled in this offensive and even NATO is going to struggle significantly to even come close to building up another force…” for the next offensive if there ever is one.

In fact, even some Western media outlets have become self-aware of the untenability of their faux reporting. Therefore, many to save face have begun reporting why the Ukrainian offensive is failing. Vox, for example, recently published an article stating that despite the Western equipment, “Kyiv and its newly trained forces have largely failed at conducting combined arms operations on a large scale…” and breaking through Russian defenses. Trying to do so has encumbered the Ukrainians with high casualties and loss of equipment. The New York Times wrote that Ukraine lost around 20% of its weapons and armor in the first few weeks of the counteroffensive. In some areas, the counteroffensive has halted due to Russia’s monolithic defenses.

Another NY Times article cites Ukrainian soldiers stating that they lost a lot of men in the first few weeks of the counteroffensive, with some even berating their superior officers as well as NATO. This same article reports, “Soldiers along the front line blamed commanders for pushing raw recruits into battle… Others criticized the inadequacy of a few weeks of basic training in various NATO countries. A few complained that some of the Western vehicles were inappropriate for the task.” CNN too is now reporting on the NATO-backed counteroffensive’s inability to retake territory. A senior Western diplomat told CNN that “…for them [Ukrainians] to really make progress that would change the balance of this conflict, I think, it’s extremely, highly unlikely.” The Russian multi-layered defenses brimming with mines and huge networks of trenches have been unbreachable so far, with reports stating that the Ukrainians have not been able to even reach the first line of defense. The US provided “literally thousands of armored vehicles, millions of shells, missiles, and bombs, and training and intelligence support – along with scores of billions in other aid. But that help did not produce a Ukrainian victory…”

Even right now, if you Google “Russia is winning”, you will be hard-pressed to find any articles mentioning the same – in fact the opposite will happen. Articles will pop up from Sky News, BBC, RAND, The New Yorker, and many others with titles such as “Has Putin’s war failed and what does Russia want from Ukraine?” and “Russia has already lost. The next year will decide if Ukraine can win.” There is therefore a huge lack of objectivity when it comes to reporting this conflict.

With time, when the reality settles in, as it did in the Afghanistan war, and as it is slowly now in Ukraine, the Western propaganda regurgitation machine will perhaps become cognizant that it yet again stands on the wrong side of history. Concurrently, however, we should not discount how desperate the West is for this war to continue unabated as their oil, arms, and other companies such as BlackRock are profiteering via the conflict. It would therefore be unsurprising that in the face of an imminent Ukrainian defeat, Poland or another NATO nation joins in the combat and this morphs into a much larger war between Russia and NATO – perhaps the beginning of World War III. Hopefully, the West will not be foolish enough to risk this.

There has been a dramatic rise in Ukraine's number of dead, according to new estimates by unnamed US officials. Ukraine gives no official toll of its war dead - the figures remain classified. But US officials, quoted by the New York Times, recently put the number at 70,000 dead and as many as 120,000 injured.

The extraordinary Seymour Hersh, now 86 and still more worth reading than the entire output of The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Time, Newsweek, and the farcical PBS news coverage combined, has just released another enormous scoop on his personal sub stack. It appeared there, of course, because none of our Wonderful, Fearless, Proud, Independent and Brave, Globally Revered News Media dared to touch it.

Hersh cites a US intelligence official as telling him that the recent vague, US-planned and directed two-day international peace summit on Ukraine in Saudi Arabia – which in reality turned out to be a mortal humiliation for the United States – had been planned by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who attended it, as a crushing humiliation and diplomatic annihilation for Russia after the most recent Ukrainian “counter-offensive” had destroyed what was left of the Russian army.

“Jeddah was Sullivan’s baby,” the official told Hersh. “He planned it to be Biden’s equivalent of [President Woodrow] Wilson’s Versailles. The grand alliance of the free world meeting in a victory celebration after the humiliating defeat of the hated foe to determine the shape of nations for the next generation. Fame and Glory. Promotion and re-election.”

As if all this was not bizarre enough, the official told Hersh, “The jewel in the crown was to be [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy’s achievement of Putin’s unconditional surrender after the lightning spring offensive. They were even planning a Nuremberg type trial at the world court, with Jake as our representative. Just one more fuck-up, but who is counting?”

It is easy to see why the US and British media collectively ignored any hint of this context for the Jeddah ‘Peace’ Summit. For the Ukrainian counter-offensive, as we and many others have observed, documented and analyzed turned out to be a catastrophe for the Kiev regime and the Ukrainian people.

At least 50% of the attacking Ukrainian forces so far have been killed, seriously wounded or are otherwise missing in action. Multiple thousands more Ukrainians have had their limbs blown off.

New solid evidence indicates the Ukrainian authorities in reality are planning to bury hundreds of thousands more combat dead.

On Tuesday, August 15, US military analyst, former outstanding armor combat commander and leading military tactician Colonel Douglas Macgregor updated his estimate of total Ukrainian combat dead to at least 400,000.

And the Intel Republic source reported new satellite images showing at one Ukrainian cemetery alone – Matveevskoye in Zaporozhye, in Kiev-held Eastern Ukraine – 104,000 square meters more grave space has been dug. In seven more state cemeteries, there are already 123,000 fresh graves. Officially, Zelenskyy’s regime, backed by the United States and NATO acknowledges only 2%, or one fiftieth of that potential death toll.

In these columns, on April 15, 2023, I compared the loudly promised Zelenskyy-regime’s “counter-offensive” would prove to be a repeat of the 1916 Battle of the Somme – in which half a million British young men died for nothing – close to the banks of the River Dnieper.

In far less time than even I feared that nightmarish vision has been totally fulfilled.

As former CIA analyst and noted blogger Larry C. Johnson has rightly noted, total Ukrainian war dead in a year and a half is now as great as total US war dead through the four years of World War II.

Yet the population of the United States during World War II was over 130 million. Even before the current hostilities began on February 24, 2022, Ukraine’s total population was only 20 million, down from its thriving 50 million when it became independent of Russia at the end of 1991.

The horrific annihilation that the Biden administration and its supine allies, especially in Britain’s Conservative government, have brought on the innocent Ukrainian people in the past year and half is more terrible than anything the peoples of Europe have suffered since the days of Hitler and Stalin. Yet in the long run, the amazing idiocy and blindness of Jake Sullivan and his fellow masterminds in the Biden administration may be even more disastrous and frightening.

For how could Sullivan and his colleagues possibly have imagined that the “spring counter-offensive” by the latest desperate scrapings at the bottom of Ukraine’s demographic barrel could possibly smash the Russian army? Or even scratch it? Who told them this? What military advice were they listening to?

Could this really have been approved by the top commanders of the US Army and the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

Are we back in the days when Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Douglas Feith and his 1,500 handpicked “analysts” totally failed to anticipate Iraqi popular revolt against US occupation and did not have a clue for years how to stop the needless destruction of Bradley Fighting Vehicles, blowing the limbs of thousands of American soldiers with old fashioned low tech anti-personnel mines – grandly retitled by Feith’s analysts as IEDs – Improvised Explosive Devices.

At age 86, Sy Hersh, who revealed the horrors of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam all those years ago when no-one else had the guts to do it, has opened up another can of stinking worms.

Hersh has revealed that the top policymakers of the Biden administration are so stupid, so arrogant, so ridiculously blind and incompetent that they cannot see what is in front of their own eyes. They have led close to half a million young Ukrainians to destruction and maiming in a battle, an offensive and a war that could never have been won and should never have been fought.

Yet like all the Fools so vividly described in the Bible’s Book of Proverbs, Sullivan, and his colleagues remain in their own imaginations wise above all others. And that is never going to change: No matter how many more innocents have to die.

Faced with the failure of Ukraine's summer counteroffensive, the US has taken the dubious step of giving the Kiev regime depleted uranium munitions. Kevin Kamps, a radioactive waste watchdog at Beyond Nuclear, warned of the multiple risks of the radioactive material.

NATO-supplied depleted uranium (DU) rounds will contaminate Ukraine's 'breadbasket' grain-growing regions with radioactive waste, a nuclear watchdog has warned.

This week the US followed the UK in announcing the supply of the controversial armor-piercing rounds for the M1 Abrams tanks it is supplying to the Kiev regime. British Challenger 2 tanks equipped with DU penetrators have already seen action in the Zaporozye region — with at least one meeting a fiery end.

Depleted uranium is the left-over material from the enrichment process used to make fuel rods for nuclear power reactors and — at higher levels — elements of nuclear weapons.

The concentration of fissile uranium-235 isotope in depleted uranium is about 0.3 percent, 40 percent of the level of element in its unenriched state, but it still emits around 60 percent as much atomic radiation as natural uranium. Most of that is in the form of alpha particles from U-238 and U-234 — the most harmful form of radiation if ingested into the body — with beta particles given out by decay products that form within a few weeks.

Watchdog Kevin Kamps told Sputnik that US national security spokesman John Kirby's claim that DU penetrator rods were not radioactive or carcinogenic was simply not true.

"Depleted uranium munitions are really intended to be armor piercing. They can bust tanks, they can penetrate through concrete," Kamps explained. "It's because they're so dense. Uranium is the densest isotope an element on the periodic table."

The harmful nature of DU is well understood, the expert pointed out.

 

 

"Uranium in nature is hazardous to begin with," Kamps said. "It's a toxic heavy metal. It is what they say as mildly radioactive, which is kind of a misnomer, radioactivity is hazardous even in mild form."

 

He added that DU is often mixed with radioactive waste from nuclear power plants.

"In both the United States, where this depleted uranium munitions is coming from, but also in other countries, there's a mixing of uranium waste streams off of the enrichment process," Kamps noted. "And what that can often mean is high-level radioactive waste contaminants can be found in uranium waste streams that then get made into depleted uranium."

What makes DU even more toxic is its pyrophoric properties — the material ignites on hitting its target, as well as pulverizing into microscopic dust from the near-hypersonic velocity impact.

 

 

"It's kind of the perfect storm of hazard. You've got toxic heavy metal, you've got radioactivity that can be contaminated with much higher level radioactivity from high-level radioactive waste," Kamps stressed. "And then it turns into a fine dust that you can breathe in, that blows on the wind, that settles on the water and flows downstream and downwind and harms people and other living beings all along the way."
