US House and Senate lawmakers have raised alarm bells about the potential use of artificial intelligence in America’s nuclear arsenal, arguing that the technology must not be put in a position to fire off warheads on its own.

A group of three Democrats and one Republican introduced a bill that calls for banning AI from being used in a way that could lead to it launching nuclear weapons. If enacted, the legislation would codify a current Pentagon policy that requires a human to be “in the loop” on any launch decisions.

Australia has been paying insiders of the U.S. war machine for consultation on how to run the nation’s military, a massive conflict of interest given that Washington has been grooming Australia for a role in its war agendas against China.

In its article “Retired U.S. admirals charging Australian taxpayers thousands of dollars per day as defence consultants,” the ABC reports that, according to documents the Pentagon provided Congress last month, “dozens of retired U.S. military figures have been granted approval to work for Australia since 2012.”

In recent years, commencing in the pre-COVID period, Australia’s balance of payments has consistently recorded a surplus on the current account. This has confounded some commentators, especially those who followed the compelling ‘debt and deficit’ (and especially the ‘twin deficits’) narrative that emerged in the mid-1980s. Does it mean that that narrative should no longer haunt Australian policy makers? Or is there something even more concerning at play?

U.S. Argues For More Protectionism And Subsidies

Two US Congressmen who sit on a bureaucratic relic of the Cold War have introduced the "Ukraine Victory Resolution" in the House of Representatives calling for the United States to support an outright victory for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

After the presentation of the resolution, it must then be approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee and then put to a vote in Congress, both at the House of Representatives and the Senate level, before becoming law.

Ukrainian shelling has left nine civilians dead and more than a dozen injured in the Russian city of Donetsk, according to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) monitoring group. Residential areas were hit by fire from multiple rocket launchers, with a passenger bus being destroyed and a local hospital suffering damage.

“Today, the central districts of the capital of the republic were subjected to another brutal shelling by the armed units of Ukraine,” Denis Pushilin, the interim head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), wrote in a Telegram post. According to the official, Ukrainian forces targeted a local hospital, an urban park, and several residential buildings.
