John Howard and Peter Lindsay

Why John Howard nominated Queensland Liberal Peter Lindsey as the chair of the parliamentary agriculture committee – his democracy in action.

In response to Peter Lindsey’s comment about the defection of Alby Shulty to the Costello’s camp:

“Well there's a very small number of my backbench colleagues, and I repeat a very small number, whose personal ambitions seem to take more precedence than the interests of the Government, and of course the wider electorate, and I find that quite sad."

I wrote to him, through his website, the following:

“It is a pity that a small number of people like yourself, in supporting John Howard, put your own interest above that of Australia."

He replied:

“I don't understand...How is my own interest furthered?
Can you explain so I can respond?

Hey Stephen, obviously your information was wrong. You and all of us should be ever so grateful to Lindsay for giving us the truth, and nothing but the truth.

I must admit I've been Labouring under the wrong impressions on all those issues myself.

It's hard to admit when we are wrong but we should humbly accept Lindsay's corrections and rule out those lines in our history books before others start believing as well.

I retired from contacting politicians some time back when I realised I knew their response before I wrote. It's just too discouraging to have contact with such people.

Truth

"The kids were always going to end up in the water because their parents were sinking the boats."

Just what would the motivation be for the parents to sink the boats?
To drown themselves and the children?

This new revelation must have been a cover up..

Ban Lying

There is no body to enforce truth in political statements.

When in power, a party can lie without fear as they control all the information that could be used to catch them out. I believe that only SA has a law against lying during a political campaign. We need an independent body who can say, "That is a falsehood or an unprovable statement. You must refrain from saying or printing that at fear of prosecution." Both sides of parliament would live in fear.

I'm not holding my breath.

RE: Innocent until Proven Guilty

The Law is set up to protect those in power. These people not only control the information, they also often investigate the complaints - very hard to prove something when they have all the rights and information.

Our politicians and even our solicitors are even exempt from scrutiny. How convenient!
