On the 1000th day of the horrific genocide currently underway against the population of Gaza, what conclusions can be drawn?

They are numerous, obviously, and impossible to list them all here. But, first and foremost, and what directly concerns us, is the criminal silence of our authorities, which de facto and indelibly places them on the wrong side of history.

In response, there is growing opposition from citizens to the "values" to which our governments have resorted for years, values that are nothing but hypocrisy to mask their duplicity.

While this may seem secondary or even trivial to some, the long-term effects are nonetheless significant, because they now discredit the usual moralizing pronouncements of the global West. Palestine thus amply demonstrates the futility of still believing in the "values" of liberty, equality, justice—with their highly variable interpretations—of the West.

Draped in arrogant rhetoric, our governments have been brought back to the realities on the ground by Palestinian resistance and resilience, forcing them to confront their empty declarations. Revealing, day by day, a little more of the bluff, the cowardice, and the lies of a backroom diplomacy that, in reality, relentlessly collaborates with the racist Israeli regime, whose violations of agreements between parties we see everywhere, even before the ink is dry on the documents.

All those working on the ground, all activists, all international humanitarian organizations can only observe the blatant inconsistencies between the official statements of these political leaders and their actions on the ground. The choice is crystal clear: business takes precedence over the most basic notion of justice. A few years ago, what once underpinned the humanist values of a Europe committed to certain inviolable principles has been reduced to the most sordid contracts and financial calculations. Take, for example, this “Association Agreement” between Europe and “Israel,” which should have been denounced years ago given the violation of one of its fundamental principles, enshrined in Article 2: respect for human rights and democratic principles. This is clearly not the case, and the evidence to that effect is extensive. In this regard, the recent visit of the European Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs, Ms. Dubravka Suica, to Jerusalem with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, where she declared with a broad smile, “I am delighted to be in ‘Israel,’ one of our key partners,” is sickening and should be met with official condemnation and an investigation by the relevant authorities. Economics and finance—like all wars—are the root causes of the genocide we are witnessing. But to truly understand, we must look back, as always. And to have the courage to recognize the profoundly colonial character that motivated the leaders of the great powers of the time, who, after the trauma of the extermination camps of the 1939-1945 war for Europeans, decided to partition a land foreign to that war, to establish what was initially intended to be a national home for the Jews, but which resulted, on November 29, 1947, in United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181, advocating the partition of Palestine into two separate states: one of 56% of the territory for the Jewish minority, and the other of 42% for the Arab majority, with the remaining 2% reserved for Jerusalem under international control.

By this act, Europeans doubly absolved themselves of responsibility for the genocide orchestrated by the Nazi regime: 1) by imposing the application of Resolution 181 on a population completely uninvolved in the crimes committed against Jews living in Europe at that time; 2) by attributing antisemitism to neighboring Arab countries in the face of their understandable rejection of Resolution 181, when in fact it is fundamentally European in origin. This convenient shift also indicates that this European antisemitism is far from eradicated and can resurface at any moment, as we regularly observe. Yesterday against Jews, today against Muslims.

Yet, the history of Middle Eastern countries teaches us that for centuries, populations of diverse faiths coexisted without major problems in the region. Agnostics, Jews, Christians, Muslims, and other believers lived side by side without conflict, in societies where everyone had their place and practiced their rites. And it was only when Europeans rallied to the Zionist racial ideology, seeing it as an opportunity to atone for their sins against the Jewish populations eliminated under Nazi Germany, that the situation deteriorated so profoundly that it became a matter of taking part

directly and indirectly linked to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Without this initial questioning, no explanation holds water. And all discourses are biased. At this stage, and in the eyes of international law, it is not the occupier, "Israel," that should be recognized as having the "right to defend itself," but occupied Palestine and its population, attacked in every way for nearly 80 years by the unjust partitioning of its land and the hell of an endless Nakba.

If, in a true sense of justice, a territory had to be found to resettle the surviving Jews after the Second World War, it should have been in Germany. It was Germany that should have paid for its heinous crimes, not Palestine.

Since this partition imposed on the Palestinians without their consent, media agencies have ceaselessly invented new artifices to emphasize the rejection of Arab-Muslim culture and the division between a West as imagined as the West and an East that supposedly stands in opposition to it. Thus, Western Europe, with its deeply Christian roots, and Eastern Europe, with its Byzantine roots, are both presented as products of Greco-Roman culture. But at this turning point in history, Europe was suddenly presented with "Judeo-Christian" roots, despite having relentlessly fought against anything resembling Judaism for centuries, right up to the Nazi regime's "Final Solution." Consider the deception, the hypocrisy, and the falsification of facts, all designed to make Europe appear more Catholic than the Pope, while simultaneously highlighting the radical break with the Arab-Muslim world. No, European roots have never been and are not Judeo-Christian! This is the product of yet another lie, an attempt to redeem itself and appease "Israel" and the Jews whom Europe has relentlessly persecuted and fought, while they lived peacefully in most of the Arab countries of the region.

Zionist ideology is rooted in a racism and supremacism as deadly as those of the slave trade—which, of European origin, was also a product of that era! And if these heinous crimes were able to persist for centuries, even under the apartheid regime in South Africa, it was largely due to the ignorance and lack of information prevalent at the time. Today, this is no longer the case, and it cannot serve as an excuse for the inaction of our governments, who are aware of the situation but fail to take the necessary steps to end this Nakba of the Palestinian people and to ensure that the perpetrators are tried and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

History never stops. It evolves, moves forward, and adapts to the evolution of its actors: human beings. What may seem possible at one time may no longer be so a few decades later. Thus, the “two-state solution,” still invoked by many actors and stakeholders on this issue, is no longer relevant. It is outdated and no longer represents the will of an overwhelming majority of Palestinians. This is in addition to various ministers in Israeli governments who have rejected the idea on several occasions, both privately and publicly.

In reality, Zionism must be fought and eradicated, just as Nazism, fascism, and all totalitarian ideologies, products of the far right, must be. Palestine must break free from its colonial prison and return to its original borders in order to establish a state where all who wish to live will be welcome, provided they respect its rules and laws, and which will be governed by officials elected by the population living there democratically.

Similarly, international law must be reviewed and revised. It too must adapt to the new paradigms of our time. And we must not become entrenched or cling to an outdated situation dominated by the colonial powers of yesteryear. Laws are always—at least—one step behind the realities of daily life. This is not a problem; they should be amended, transformed, and improved according to the situation and the wishes of the majority of citizens, thus making them malleable tools at their service. All the while respecting an inviolable principle: the rejection of a double standard in justice that has been the guiding principle of the major Western economic and military powers. The law must be the same for everyone and in all circumstances. And "never again" must be applied to every situation that demands it, regardless of the actors involved.

Resistance to change in this unjust order imposed by a few powerful states by force must yield to the principle of equal law for all peoples. The axis of resistance in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Iraq, and elsewhere is participating in this struggle. And we must support them against the position of our governments, which definitively no longer represent "our values"!

The Gaza Ethnic Cleansing Agenda Continues To Roll Forward

Israel’s mass atrocities in Gaza have always been about ethnic cleansing from the very beginning.

As both US and Israeli leaders openly contemplate attacking Iran again, it’s easy for the world to miss the fact that the genocidal alliance has also dramatically reinvigorated its ethnic cleansing agendas in Gaza.

The Adelson-owned pro-Netanyahu outlet Israel Hayom reports that in the coming weeks the so-called “Board of Peace” overseeing life in the Gaza Strip is planning to relocate Palestinians to “humanitarian shelters” that are not under Hamas control.

Israel Hayom reports that an area near the destroyed city of Rafah is the first location where such camps will be set up. This is noteworthy because one year ago defense minister Israel Katz stated that there was a plan to construct a “humanitarian city” on the ruins of Rafah, where “the emigration plan” for the Palestinians would then be implemented, adding that Benjamin Netanyahu was working on finding foreign nations to accept the population of Gaza.

It’s hard to ignore the similarities. Both accounts even state that the plan is to police the displaced Palestinians using an international force. The 2026 Israel Hayom report states that the camps will be overseen by “multinational forces under the Board of Peace’s management”, and Israel Katz stated in 2025 that Israel is seeking international partners to manage the zone.

So to be clear, in July of last year Israeli officials were publicly stating that they were going to build a “humanitarian city” on the ruins of Rafah to house the Palestinians under international supervision while working to relocate them from their homeland to other countries, and in July of this year we learn that we will soon see Palestinians in Gaza relocated to “humanitarian shelters” near Rafah overseen by international forces.

So it sounds like the same plan. If it is, then it’s a plan for ethnic cleansing.

Israel has already expanded its control over Gaza from 53 percent to 70 percent of the Strip, concentrating the survivors of the genocide into a mere 30 percent of the Palestinian territory. And now, according to Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen, the plan is to expand control to 100 percent.

Israel National News quotes Cohen as saying during a recent radio interview that “our control of the territory will only continue to expand until we reach 100%,” adding, “two months ago we controlled 53% of the Strip, about a month ago around 60%, and today we’re approaching 70% of the Strip’s area.”

This comes amid other reports we discussed recently which strongly indicate that the Trumpanyahu administration is renewing its push to remove all Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The other day we learned from the Israeli press that Israel’s national security agencies had been instructed to rebrand the ethnic cleansing plan as a “plan for free movement” in order to mitigate international resistance to the agenda. A few days before that, we learned that Israel’s new national security chief had convened a meeting with officials from the IDF and Shin Bet to discuss the plan to displace the Palestinians of Gaza to other countries.

Again, Israel’s mass atrocities in Gaza have always been about ethnic cleansing from the very beginning. Within days of Israel’s assault on Gaza in October 2023, Israel’s Intelligence Ministry was circulating a plan for the entire population of Gaza to be moved to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, and an Israeli think tank had drawn up a strategy for the “relocation and final settlement of the entire Gaza population.”

The goal has always been to remove the Palestinians from Gaza so their territory can be taken from them. This was never anything other than a blatant Israeli land grab. They’ve been framing it as a “war” so that after they seize and colonize Gaza they can say “the Arabs fought a war and lost, they deserved to lose territory” like they always do, but it was never actually a war.

Calling the Gaza genocide a “war” is like seeing a man beating up a toddler and calling it a “fight”. It’s one of the world’s most sophisticated military forces raining explosives on an area packed full of children with the backing of the most powerful empire that has ever existed, opposed only by a few thousand guys running around in sandals with homemade rockets and ancient Kalashnikovs.

That’s not a war. It’s an ethnic cleansing operation. That’s all this has ever been.

Dr Mohammad Mustafa has lost dozens of relatives in Gaza, killed, tortured, raped, their homes destroyed. Andrew Brown spoke to him.

Aka. Dr Mo, Mohammad Mustafa, has spent much of the past two years telling Australians about it, and it has cost him. His specialist training has been frozen. He has been hit with professional complaints, private complaints, harassment and threats.

Now, the body that decides whether he keeps practising medicine has adopted a definition that he believes makes telling the stories of his experiences even more dangerous.

Last week, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism as a reference tool, announced jointly with the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy, Jillian Segal.

Mustafa, known to many as the Beast from the Middle East, is one of Australia’s most prominent medical voices on Gaza. We asked him what the decision means for doctors.

The cost is already real

He does not frame this as his burden alone. “Those consequences are real, and they are something many healthcare workers now quietly weigh before speaking publicly,” he told us. The fear runs deepest for people like him, who have buried family and watched a state he is now being warned about destroy the homes he knew.

“If someone in my position can wonder whether expressing grief, anger or criticism of the state responsible could expose them to regulatory consequences, then others will inevitably self-censor.”

The United Nations and its independent experts have described what is happening in Gaza as genocide. Against that, Mustafa says, the silence asked of doctors is obscene. “We are not speaking about abstract politics. We are speaking about mass civilian suffering, attacks on hospitals, on healthcare workers, on patients.”

A solution looking for a problem

The numbers do not support the case. Between October 2023 and February 2024, AHPRA received 63 complaints about social media posts on the conflict. More than 70% were closed. Two practitioners faced potential action.

So what is the definition for? “If AHPRA’s own data shows the overwhelming majority of complaints were dismissed, it suggests the existing framework was already working,” Mustafa said.

It’s difficult to argue there was a regulatory gap that needed filling.

His worry is that the definition trades clarity for fear. “Doctors will begin asking themselves not, am I speaking truthfully, but, could this be read in a way that leads to a complaint? That changes behaviour, even when no disciplinary action follows.”

The doctors most exposed are Palestinian, Jewish, Israeli and Arab practitioners speaking about wars that have torn through their own families. “We should be encouraging honest, evidence-based discussion, not building an environment where people censor themselves.”

The process is the punishment

Ask Mustafa what happens to a doctor who posts that hospitals in Gaza are being bombed, and he does not reach for the worst-case finding. He reaches for the machinery. “The punishment doesn’t have to be a finding against you. The process itself becomes the punishment.”

A doctor may be vindicated in the end. Before that comes the complaint, the investigation, the legal bills, the reputational damage, the career frozen for months or years. “I know that because I’ve lived it. Whether the complaint succeeds becomes almost secondary. The message to every other doctor is clear,

look what happens if you speak.

That is how a chilling effect works, he says. It does not need mass discipline. It needs fear. And the doctors going quiet are not retreating from politics. They are retreating from medicine. “Hospitals destroyed. Healthcare workers killed. Children operated on without anaesthesia. Those are medical facts doctors have a duty to name.”

Out of step with doctors elsewhere

The timing is hard to ignore. Days before AHPRA moved, the British Medical Association, representing more than 200,000 doctors, voted to reject the IHRA definition and demanded the NHS revoke it, warning of a chilling effect on its own members.

Australia’s regulator walked the other way, adopting the framework in the same breath as it claimed to be reviewing the weaponisation of complaints.

A political document vs a medical register

What troubles Mustafa most is not Segal, or any individual. It is the principle. A policy reaching almost a million practitioners was announced alongside a political appointee with no medical office and without any consultation with the profession.

“Confidence in a regulator depends not just on its independence, but on the public believing it is independent.” Doctors were never asked whether this would change what they feel able to say. “Yet we are expected to practise under it.”

Questions for AHPRA

We asked what he would ask the regulator’s leadership.

“What problem were you trying to solve?”

“Who did you consult? Did you sit down with Palestinian doctors? With Jewish doctors? With the emergency physicians who have actually worked in Gaza?”

What would settle him is not reassurance but a guarantee, in writing, that no doctor speaking truthfully and in good faith will be punished for criticising a state. Without it, he says, the regulator has already changed medicine.

“If the result is that doctors start asking, is it safer not to speak,

then we’ve lost sight of what professional regulation is supposed to protect.
