rubio lies under instruction from trump to confuse the russians....
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump discussed America's proposals on Ukraine at the Alaska summit and they were accepted by the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday. On Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio argued that the Russian-American summit in Alaska had produced only proposals on Ukraine and not agreements. "When my counterpart Marco Rubio says that in Alaska there were only proposals and no agreement, I have a question about what we actually mean by 'agreement.' If one side—in this case, the United States—placed its settlement proposals on the table, outlining how to approach this crisis, and the other side expressed agreement with those proposals, then to say that there was no agreement strikes me as not very elegant." Lavrov told reporters. The fact remains that US proposals were discussed in Alaska and were accepted by the Russian side, the diplomacy chief added. "Of course, we need to clarify this whole situation," Lavrov added.

no deal....
No deals were reached at the Anchorage summit in Alaska last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed in an interview with Rossiya-1 on Sunday.
The summit, where Putin met with his American counterpart Donald Trump, marked the first top-level direct contact between Moscow and Washington in the years since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, and was hailed as a breakthrough. However, on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the meeting produced only “a proposal” and no agreement.
“There really were no agreements in Anchorage,” Putin confirmed.
However, the compromises which Russia discussed and eventually accepted at the meeting were proposed by the American side, he said. The ‘Spirit of Anchorage’ was not “embodied in any formal documents” but both sides discussed certain possibilities for settling the Ukraine conflict.
We were asked to accept the compromises formulated by the American negotiators. We agreed.
Putin stressed that he has not received any other offer from the US administration since.
While both Moscow and Washington have stayed tight-lipped on the exact points discussed in Alaska, Trump later suggested that Kiev could need to give up territory in order to clinch a lasting peace settlement. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky – and his European backers – has categorically rejected any territorial concessions.
Putin has repeatedly stressed that for a lasting peace deal, Kiev must withdraw Ukrainian forces from the portion of Donbass it still controls. As long as Ukraine refuses to compromise, Russia will push towards its goals via military means, Moscow has said.

meanwhile....
Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected Ukraine's proposal to limit military operations to four regions, calling it a tactical move designed to redeploy troops amid a catastrophic personnel shortage, while also emphasizing that Russia's energy infrastructure is holding up well against Ukrainian strikes.
Ukraine had proposed confining military operations to the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Putin said. However, Moscow rejected the offer.
"If we agree to this, it will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to withdraw their troops from the Nikolayev, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, and Sumy regions, as well as from certain sections of the state border, and redeploy these units to the four aforementioned regions," Putin explained.
"Given the catastrophic shortage of personnel, the Ukrainian Armed Forces apparently believe this could be their salvation. But saving the Kiev regime is not part of our plans."
The Russian president provided detailed updates on the current front lines:
Russian troops are approximately 10.5 kilometers from the city of Sumy
Forces are advancing toward Slavyansk, now 8–9 kilometers away
Russian forces control 96% of Konstantinovka
149 houses remain to be liberated in Krasny Liman
Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups, even when they infiltrate Russian-controlled territory, are quickly eliminated
Putin also addressed the state of Russia's energy infrastructure, which has been targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes throughout the conflict.
"All damaged Russian energy facilities are being restored fairly quickly, and everything is operating with a large safety margin," he said.
The president emphasized that Russia's retaliatory strikes deep into Ukrainian territory are "much more powerful and sensitive" than what Ukraine can deliver.

Why the Alaska understandings no longer matter
Lavrov and Rubio’s dispute over Alaska exposes a deeper problem: past understandings mean little while the Ukraine battlefield keeps shifting
BY Fyodor LukyanovThe exchange between Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio over whether agreements were reached in Alaska last year, or whether proposals were merely put forward, says much about the current level of mutual understanding. In substance, however, it is less a basis for further action than a commentary on attitudes.
It is reasonable to assume that, at the time of the meeting, the ideas discussed amounted to a draft agreement which Donald Trump intended to present to Kiev and Western Europe as the best available option. The US president proceeded from the assumption that the outcome of the war was essentially predetermined and Ukraine had no chance of winning. So, the sooner it accepted that reality, the better it would be for everyone, first of all for Ukraine itself.
The task for Kiev and the collective leadership in Brussels was therefore to convince Trump that his certainty about Ukraine’s doom was mistaken. Ten months after Anchorage, they appear to have succeeded. Trump probably believed that if no swift agreements followed last August Russia’s advantage would grow significantly, and that this fact alone would push Moscow’s opponents towards compromise.
That hasn’t happened in any spectacular way. Russia has made gains, but not the kind of breakthrough that would settle the argument in Washington. Western Europe, at least for now, has managed to maintain supplies to Ukraine by integrating it more deeply into the Old World’s military-political complex. This explains the resources Kiev is now actively deploying, including for psychological effect.
Broadly speaking, Trump doesn’t care much how the conflict ends. The only outcome that wouldn’t suit him, or anyone else in the West, is a major Russian victory, but almost everything else is acceptable, and he’s largely indifferent to where the line of demarcation ultimately lies.
Trump has said more than once that, if the combatants wish to keep fighting, they may do so for as long as they want and are able. Washington will not make extraordinary political or diplomatic efforts to stop the war, especially when it has a more important issue before it in the unresolved situation with Iran.
Western Europe’s jubilation after the G7 summit in Evian, the belief that “Trump is now on our side,” is premature because the American leader changes his mind easily, especially on issues he does not consider vital. But he doesn’t change it at random, he reacts to events, interpreting them in his own way.
Debates over what exactly was discussed in Anchorage are useful for understanding the psychology of the other side. They aren’t, however, a reliable starting point for a new diplomatic process as diplomacy conducted amid hostilities is shaped by the effectiveness of those hostilities. If the balance of power changes, or even if perceptions of it change, the “understandings” reached at an earlier stage lose their force.
The same applies to the Istanbul talks of spring 2022, arguably the most comprehensive of all possible settlement options and the closest to the originally stated aims of the campaign. Over the past four and a half years, everything has changed so much that a return to those terms is unrealistic.
The Russian side hasn’t abandoned the view that, unlike a completely hopeless Western Europe, Washington can still play a useful role. That’s correct, but first, the White House must be brought back to the realization that a military victory for Russia’s opponents is impossible. Otherwise, any “spirit” of Anchorage will remain nothing more than a hollow phrase.
