HUNGARY'S BETRAYAL: Magyar Reverses Long-Standing Veto, Releases €6.6B EU Military Reimbursements!

Hungary under Prime Minister Péter Magyar has lifted its long-standing veto on European Union military funding for Ukraine, unlocking €6.6 billion in reimbursements through the European Peace Facility, according to EU diplomatic confirmations and local media reports including Népszava.

The move ends a two-year blockade imposed under former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and clears a backlog estimated at over €40 billion in pending claims. The decision enables faster disbursement for weapons and air defence systems supplied to Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

In parallel, Budapest has also removed its opposition to Ukraine’s EU accession talks following assurances from President Volodymyr Zelensky on minority rights, marking a decisive shift in Hungary’s position within the European bloc and reinforcing collective EU strategy on Ukraine.
