drastically plummeting to an astounding level ......
A new series of polls has revealed that the popularity of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is drastically plummeting and the plunge is to such a level that it has even astounded the data guru of CNN television news network Harry Enten. "He is going over like a lead balloon, not just overall, but especially with independents," Enten said as he reviewed new polling data from Quinnipiac and Yahoo. He added that past US secretaries of war, at a time of armed conflict, tended to be very popular. According to the new polling data, Hegseth's net popularity currently hovers at around -15 overall and -28 among independent voters per Quinnipiac. Yahoo's poll yielded even lower figures, with Hegseth netting -18 in popularity, and a staggering -33 among independents. The polls were carried out around two weeks after the United States, alongside the Israeli regime, launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28. Enten noted that secretaries of war are normally celebrated early in armed conflicts. "At this point, Pete Hegseth is anything but celebrated," he pointed out. The aggression against Iran has seen airstrikes against both military installations and civilian infrastructure throughout the country, leading to considerable loss of life and extensive destruction of civilian facilities. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces launched counteroffensives, hitting missile and drone strikes at American bases across West Asia and Israeli positions in the occupied territories.

PNAC....
The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was launched in 1997 by William Kristol and Robert Kagan, two prominent neoconservative thinkers in Washington, D.C. The group’s mission: to promote American global leadership, advocating for increased military power, regime change, and ideological clarity. Twn+11The New Yorker+11MERIP+11Reddit+10Wikipedia+10E-International Relations+10
Its signatories included 25 notable figures, many of whom later held high office in President George W. Bush’s administration:
Several critics suggest that amongst its founders and public members were individuals with close ties to Israel or dual identities as Israeli-American, reflecting deep networks of neoconservatism with U.S.–Israel policy alignment. While not all founders had dual citizenship, some, including individuals like Richard Perle and others in similar circles, had close affiliations to both U.S. and Israeli policy ecosystems. 2. PNAC’s Ideas: Empire in Blueprint FormIn June 1997, PNAC released its “Statement of Principles”, calling for expanded U.S. military spending, the promotion of democracy abroad, and the willingness to challenge regimes hostile to American interests. yourdemocracy.net+15Wikipedia+15E-International Relations+15
In September 2000, they published “Rebuilding America’s Defenses”, a detailed strategic blueprint affirming that America’s dominance should be permanent and that achieving it might require catastrophic events, metaphorically described as “a new Pearl Harbor” to catalyze transformation. One passage reads:
“Absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor.” Brett Wilkins+8Reddit+8Truthdig+8
This chilling prediction appeared in PNAC’s own documents before 9/11 occurred.
3. Transition from Think Tank to Power CircleAfter George W. Bush won the 2000 election, many PNAC signatories assumed senior administration roles, allowing them to translate their ideas into hard policy:
Their influence extended to the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which promoted regime change even under Clinton. Post-9/11, PNAC members urged military action against Iraq, regardless of any direct link to the attacks, a position that later informed the U.S. invasion. Wikipedia+4transcend.org+4GQ+4
On September 20, 2001, PNAC sent a public letter signed by leading members calling for regime change in Iraq, Syria, Iran, and even cutting aid to the Palestinian Authority unless terror halted, a call that closely aligned with the emerging Bush Doctrine. MERIP
4. Impact on U.S. Policy: From Vision to WarThe Bush Doctrine emerges directly from PNAC influence:
While PNAC presented its ideas as visionary, critics argue it was a blueprint for an imperial America rooted in militarism. pages.gseis.ucla.edubriangwilliams.us
5. Did the Media Cover PNAC’s Influence? What Media DidMainstream U.S. outlets, The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, CBS, NBC, etc. provided extensive coverage of the Iraq intervention, the invasion rationale, and evolving public support post-9/11.
What Media Often IgnoredCritics say most news coverage failed to deeply interrogate PNAC’s ideological roots or its role in shaping administration policy before the attacks. There was minimal investigation into:
Veteran journalist Alissa Rubin (LA Times) reflected that mainstream reporting largely embraced the administration’s frames, creating what some describe as an echo chamber. RedditWikipediawritall.com
While commentators and investigative outlets like The New Yorker and monthly review raised questions, most weekday reporting did not connect government narratives back to PNAC’s intellectual agenda. Brett Wilkins+15The New Yorker+15transcend.org+15
6. Why This Matters: Agenda vs. Accident- PNAC envisioned a war-heavy U.S. foreign policy well before 9/11.
- Many key figures from PNAC became policymakers after the attacks, acting on pre-existing plans.
- Media’s failure to contextualize their influence meant public debate lacked awareness of the pre-planned nature of the war effort.
Contentious Framing:Some academics argue PNAC’s importance was overstated; the think tank didn’t officially hold positions in government. Yet, the overlap in personnel and policy alignment is compelling. PNAC’s key members may not have held formal titles, but their ideas shaped governance nonetheless. yourdemocracy.net+9briangwilliams.us+9Reddit+9writall.com
As the New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman once quipped: those who shape discourse aren’t always those in office but once in office, they shape policy.
ConclusionPNAC was more than an intellectual club it was an ideological engine behind global interventionist policies. Their founding members and principles preceded 9/11, yet became central tools in its aftermath.
Media largely reported the wars, rarely questioned their architects. That lack of scrutiny left public consciousness with a partial narrative: wars sold as defensive miracles, missing the ideological blueprint behind them.
