democracy alla donaldo fascistas....

Anyone naive enough to believe that the United States wants to establish democracy in Iran should look into the current maneuvers of the United States to sabotage democracy in Iraq.

President Trump threatened vehemently to cut off Iraq's oil revenues if that country allowed the return to power of former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, that his administration considers too favorable to Iran.

If you think the United States wants to establish democracy in Iran, look at what they are currently doing in Iraq.

by Caitlin Johnstone

And these threats seem to be bearing fruit, as reported by Jason Ditz of Antiwar:

«The candidacy of former and possibly future Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is increasingly jeopardized this weekend. Reports indicate that the president Trump would demand his removal from power increase the possibility that the Coordination Framework block withdraws his candidacy as Prime Minister.

Last year's Iraqi elections resulted in a deeply divided parliament, as usual. However, the State of Law Party, which came in fourth with 6% of the vote, was generally considered sufficient to allow Maliki to take the lead of the coalition, since the outgoing Prime Minister, Mohammed al-Sudani, does not intend to run again».

«At the end of last month, Trump demanded that Maliki withdraw from the presidential race. but he refused asserting that the United States should stay out of Iraq's internal affairs, Maliki had previously served as Iraqi Prime Minister from 2006 to 2014.».

Ditz explains that Trump is able to influence Iraqi politics through credible threats thanks to the control the United States exerts over the country's economy following the invasion of Iraq:

«The basis of all this lies in the fact that after the US invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003, the country was restructured so that all Iraqi oil revenues were paid in US dollars through the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Since these revenues constitute almost the entire Iraqi state budget, the United States can thus seize Iraqi public finances at any time and instantly bankrupt the country.».

This is what the "democracy" imposed by the United States actually looks like: giving a nation the freedom to do what Washington dictates and to elect the leaders that Washington allows it to elect.

It may be recalled that the justification for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein by the American coalition in 2003 was the urgent need to bring freedom and democracy to the Iraqi people. The United States even dubbed the invasion "Operation Iraqi Freedom." They subsequently killed a million people, plunged the region into chaos and instability for years, and ensured that the Iraqi people would forever remain under the yoke of the American empire.

It is unacceptable for any adult to believe that the American empire wants to establish democracy in Iran. The United States systematically supports dictatorships and monarchies in the Middle East precisely because it does not want the popular will to determine the actions and policies of the governments of these nations. In genuine democratic states in the region, citizens would use their vote to elect leaders hostile to Israel and the United States, and who would implement fossil fuel policies that serve the interests of their own people rather than those of the Western empire.

This is why the Middle East is full of wealthy monarchies, extremely close to the United States and its allies. This is no coincidence; the West has aggressively manipulated Middle Eastern affairs for generations. Iran is no exception. The CIA has orchestrated a Rebellion in 1953 for replace the democratically elected government by a monarchy aligned with the United States, which was later overthrown during the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

The goal is not to establish democracy in Iran, and one can even to present convincing arguments according to whom it is not a matter of preserving the unity of the country. Influential Iranian hawks have recently been advocating balkanization as a preferred strategy, while war propagandists promote the idea of a fractured Iran Based on ethnic criteria, it would be in everyone's interest. This strategy would generate unimaginable conflicts and deadly chaos, but it would allow them to overthrow the Iranian government without having to bother replacing it with a new one. They would simply have to crush Iran to eliminate a recalcitrant regional power and let the remnants scatter, without fearing that a future revolution might replace their puppet regime within a vast unified state.

The United States is not seeking democracy, but global domination. That is the true objective of all these maneuvers, and the empire is indifferent to the number of victims it must sacrifice to achieve it.

calculus....

White House officials believe ‘the politics are a lot better’ if Israel strikes Iran first
As the administration mulls military action in Iran, officials argue it’d be best if Israel makes the first move.

By DASHA BURNS and NAHAL TOOSI

Senior advisers to President Donald Trump would prefer Israel strike Iran before the United States launches an assault on the country, according to two people familiar with ongoing discussions.
These Trump administration officials are privately arguing that an Israeli attack would trigger Iran to retaliate, helping muster support from American voters for a U.S. strike.

The calculus is a political one — that more Americans would stomach a war with Iran if the United States or an ally were attacked first. Recent polling shows that Americans, and Republicans in particular, support regime change in Iran, but are unwilling to risk any U.S. casualties to achieve it. That means Trump’s team is considering the optics of how an attack is conducted in addition to other justifications — such as Iran’s nuclear program.

“There’s thinking in and around the administration that the politics are a lot better if the Israelis go first and alone and the Iranians retaliate against us, and give us more reason to take action,” said one of the people familiar with discussions. Both individuals were granted anonymity to describe private conversations.

With hopes dimming in Washington for a diplomatic resolution to the standoff with Iran, the primary question is becoming when and how the U.S. attacks.

Regardless of the desire for Israel to act first, the likeliest scenario may be a jointly launched U.S.-Israel operation, the two people said.

In response to a request for comment, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said, “the media may continue to speculate on the president’s thinking all they want, but only President Trump knows what he may or may not do.” The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was at the White House last week pressing the administration to do what it must to derail Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missile infrastructure and its support for proxy militias in the region. Meanwhile the president’s go-to negotiating team of special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner are heading to Geneva on Thursday to try to make a deal with the Iranians.

This is a serious effort, but the thinking among those closest to the president is that “we’re going to bomb them,” according to the first person familiar with discussions.
