Swedish Palace Confirms Princess Sofia Met Jeffrey Epstein Multiple Times as She Quietly Skips Nobel Prize Ceremony
The news comes weeks after King Charles stripped his brother Andrew of his royal titles and honors due to his connections to Epstein

  • The Swedish Royal Court confirmed that Princess Sofia met Jeffrey Epstein after an outlet published emails connecting them

  • Although the palace said she was introduced to Epstein around 2005, she hasn't had contact with him in 20 years

  • Sofia, a former reality TV star and model, skipped the Nobel Prize ceremony with the Swedish royals one day after the report

The Swedish Royal Court confirmed that Princess Sofia met Jeffrey Epstein after emails connecting them were revealed.

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, Swedish outlet Dagens Nyheter published emails between Epstein and financier Barbro Ehnbom, who has been described as a mentor to Sofia and attended her 2015 wedding to Prince Carl Philip, the son of Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf. According to a translation, Ehnbom reportedly wrote in a December 2005 email featuring a photo, "This is Sofia, an aspiring actress who just arrived in New York. She's the girl I told you about before I left, who I thought you might like to meet. Maybe we can visit before you go on holiday?"

Epstein reportedly replied, "I'm in the Caribbean. Does she want to come for a couple of days? I'll send a ticket."

The Swedish Royal Court confirmed to the outlet that Princess Sofia "has been introduced to the person in question on a few occasions around 2005," before Epstein was convicted of soliciting prostitution, including with a minor, in 2008, and later faced federal sex trafficking charges in 2019.

According to the court, Princess Sofia, now 41, did not accept the invitation to join Epstein in the Caribbean, where he is suspected of committing sexual assaults against multiple girls and women.

"The princess has not had any contact with the person in question for 20 years," the court told Dagens Nyheter.

The outlet also published a 2006 email from Epstein's assistant to Ehnbom: "Jeffrey wonders what really happened with Camilla. Did you tell her she has a ticket to New York anytime she wants?"

Ehnbom replied, "I think he means Sofia, the little beautiful dark-haired girl who had her friend Camilla with her," adding that Epstein offered both women spots at an acting school, but there were issues with their visas.

Son of Norway’s crown princess stands trial for rape, as royal family in the spotlight over Epstein emails

Norway’s usually private royal family is under intense public scrutiny this week as the rape trial of the crown prince’s stepson begins days after a tranche of newly released Epstein files appear to link the crown princess to the late sex offender.

Marius Borg Høiby, 29, appeared at Oslo District Court Tuesday for the start of a trial expected to last seven weeks, in what experts say is an unprecedented moment for a royal family known for its projection of stability. He denied the allegations of rape.

He has been charged with 38 counts, including rape and repeated abuse of his former partner. The alleged violence includes repeatedly striking his girlfriend in the face, choking her, making threats and destroying her property, according to indictment documents seen by CNN.

The charges also include six counts of non-consensual sexual filming or photography, as well as drug related and driving offenses, documents show. If convicted, Høiby could face more than 10 years in prison, according to Norway’s public broadcaster NRK.

In the courtroom, Høiby pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape, NRK reported, adding the crown princess’ son spoke quietly and wore a brown sweater, beige trousers and glasses. He also denied filming women without their knowledge and for abuse in close relationships.

Høiby, the stepson of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon, is outside Norway’s line of royal succession because he was born before his mother, Mette-Marit, married Haakon and became a princess in 2001.

Defense attorney Petar Sekulic said late last year in response to the indictment that Høiby “denies all charges of sexual abuse, as well as the majority of the charges regarding violence.” Høiby will “present a detailed account of his version of events before the court,” Sekulic added.

On Tuesday, Høiby admitted culpability for bodily harm and partially admitted culpability for the charge of gross bodily harm, as well as other drug and driving offences, NRK said.

Høiby is due to testify on Wednesday. CNN has contacted his lawyer for further comment.

The trial follows the latest release on Friday of more Jeffrey Epstein files by the US Justice Department, which include scores of emails between Epstein and Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Ahead of his trial, Høiby was arrested on further charges Sunday evening including making threats involving a knife and breaching a restraining order, police prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski said Monday. CNN has approached Høiby’s lawyers for comment on the most recent charges.

Epstein emails bring scandal to Europe's elite, from Norway's crown princess to Britain's 'prince of darkness'
The British government said it had referred Peter Mandelson's correspondence with Jeffery Epstein to police because it appeared that "market sensitive information" had been "compromised."

LONDON — A rare royal apology, resignations and allegations of leaked government intel: The new release of Epstein documents has provoked outrage and a demand for answers in Europe over ties between prominent figures and the late sex offender.

\

Norway’s royal family has found itself at the center of a storm over the more than 3 million documents the Justice Department released Friday. And in Britain, the former Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, have faced renewed pressure.

This time, however, the focus in the United Kingdom is not on the palace but on the country’s “Prince of Darkness.”

Peter Mandelson, a longtime political grandee who earned that nickname with a reputation as a ruthless political fixer and schemer, stepped down as a member of the House of Lords on Tuesday. He faces an intensifying scandal over emails that appear to show him leaking sensitive political and market information to Epstein.

London’s Metropolitan Police, which earlier said it was reviewing reports of “alleged misconduct in public office” to determine whether it met the threshold for criminal investigation, announced late Tuesday that it had “launched an investigation into a 72-year-old man, a former Government Minister, for misconduct in public office offences.” As is customary, it did not identify by name who was being investigated.

Mandelson had already resigned as the U.K.’s ambassador to the United States in September after revelations about his friendship with Epstein emerged. On Sunday, he also stepped down from the governing Labour Party, after the latest release of files suggested he lobbied his own government on behalf of Epstein while alerting him about coming key decisions.

“Trying hard to amend,” Mandelson wrote to Epstein about a planned tax on bankers’ bonuses in December 2009, according to the released documents. “Treasury digging in but I am on [the] case.”

Mandelson also appears to have leaked an internal economics briefing about assets the government believed it could sell. Mandelson forwarded it to Epstein with the added line: “Interesting note that’s gone to the PM.”

In 2010, while Mandelson was business secretary, he notified Epstein in advance that Prime Minister Gordon Brown was going to resign following his loss of the general election, writing “finally got him to go today…” according to an email exchange between the two.

Epstein served jail time, having been convicted in 2008 of soliciting a minor for prostitution, although the true scale of his crimes did not start to emerge until 2015.

Mandelson said that he was resigning to avoid “further embarrassment to the Labour Party” and that he wanted to “repeat my apology to the women and girls whose voices should have been heard long before now.”
