The insurance industry is being turned around by big conglomerates... The latest ones being Coles... Nearly every new insurer offer you money to insure with them... 50 bux, a hundred bux just to switch and you might pay "less insurance" on your home, car and whatever. Nothing wrong here but one has to note that all insurance have to be reinsured and underwritten by a a big insurance... So many of the new funky little ones are underwritten by banks and/or like the latest one, Coles, is in Westfarmers hands that "has been in insurance for 75 years or more" that is at one stage Westfarmer bought an insurance company (small/large) that had been trading for 75 years... The goodwill and the age came with it...
In the same brush, I do not begrudge Dawn French using her new look to advertise flybuys and car insurance (stop looking at my butt) from a playpen-sized car...
But it's a bit like if we on this site promoted fully-armed nuclear submarines using my artful cartoons...
With the big supermarkets prepared to wage "war" upon each other they are actually doing untold collateral damage to the little guys. The super markets chains are prepared to loose money on some of their new ventures (supermarkets, insurance, petrol) for as long as it takes until well, the little guys are out and they can play a weird game of "competition" two up...
advertising and underwriting..
