dramatic salmon...

mamapapa bear

Tonight's TV debut of Sarah Palin's Alaska has been marred - or given a little extra publicity, take your pick - by criticism from a respected conservationist that the former state governor went fishing too close to protected brown bears for the sake of dramatic footage.

John Toppenberg, director of the Alaska Wildlife Alliance, is basing his comments on a scene that has been shown in a trailer for the programme which is being shown on the TLC cable channel and is described as part documentary, part reality TV.

The scene shows Sarah Palin with her husband, Todd, and other family members fishing for salmon in Wolverine Creek, a well-known natural beauty spot, southwest of Anchorage.

There are very straightforward rules at Wolverine Creek which prohibit members of the public fishing within 30ft of the bears, who are there to fish too.

rating records...

The 2008 vice presidential nominee reality show "Sarah Palin's Alaska" shattered TLC's rating records Sunday night, drawing 4.96 million viewers, according to TV Newser.

The previous record was set by the fashion show “What Not To Wear” in 2003.

According to Newser, 1.8 million adults between 25-54 tuned in while 1.6 million between 18-49 watched the show.

The show, which debuted to mixed reviews with many calling it a giant campaign ad, features Palin and her family in Alaska with the politician fishing, chatting with Bill O'Reilly and chasing suitors away from her daughter Piper's room.

Palin's show is produced by Mark Burnett, who pushed "Survivor" and "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" to high ratings.

good, though dangerous judgement...

A rural Wisconsin man blasted his television set with a shotgun after watching Bristol Palin's Dancing with the Stars routine, saying he was fed up with politics and Palin wasn't a very good dancer, according to US court documents.

Steven Cowan, 67, of the town of Vermont, about 15 miles west of Madison, then pointed the gun at his wife, 66-year-old Janice Cowan, who escaped and called police, authorities said. A SWAT team surrounded the couple's farmhouse, and officers were able to talk Cowan out on Tuesday morning after an all-night standoff.

Cowan had been drinking before he sat down to watch Dancing with the Stars and suffers from bipolar disorder, his wife told officers. He was charged on Tuesday with second-degree reckless endangerment, and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Gus: sometimes depression can give you the right perspective on life... You see crap where there is crap. No niceties about those who polish their viewpoints to suit the mood of other people rather than stick to the reality of what's happening...

homophobic slur ...

Willow Palin used a homophobic slur against a poster on her Facebook page who criticised her mother's new documentary series Sarah Palin's Alaska. Then, she and Bristol engaged in a stream of offensive comments with posters who continued to slam the family.

with her make-up on...

WASHINGTON: Sarah Palin has accused Barack and Michelle Obama of being unpatriotic and has suggested they are racist.

In leaked extracts of her new book, America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate argues that the first black US president is among those who regarded the Tea Party movement as racially prejudiced and who thinks ''America is a fundamentally unjust and unequal country''.

As proof, she quoted a 2008 campaign speech in which Mrs Obama said ''for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country''.

Mrs Palin went on: ''I guess this shouldn't surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright's church listening to his rants against America and white people.''

Mrs Palin's second book is regarded as a launch pad for a bid for the 2012 Republican nomination, which she admitted this week she was ''seriously considering''.

Yep. It's time for the US to have an anti-evolutionist god-fearing gun-totting mama bear for president... And, thank the she-god, we won't have any of that global warming crap to worry about.

This brings tears of regrets to my eyes... to realise we missed our golden opportunity here in Aussieland by rejecting — by barely a light budgie's bum feather — the same anti-evolutionist god-fearing gun-totting papa bear for Prime Minister. The slight difference though between Tony and Sarah is that she seems to sleep with her make-up on, while I would not be surprised if our Tony sleeps with his red smugglers on his head to protect his soft gentle hair from pillow-crumpling.
