An interesting news item came my way early this morning.

Apparently the Indian Government had announced some remarkable success in their fight against aids. To quote one item from Reuters this week:

"On Wednesday, India said another 28,000 HIV/AIDS cases were reported in 2004 compared with an increase of 520,000 in 2003, a 400 percent slowdown in the growth of new infections.

"They must be joking," said an incredulous Nafisa Ali a former Miss India and now a leading campaigner with the Action India Trust, a private group spreading AIDS awareness." Link http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/DEL203843.htm .

A quick Google search revealed another item from 2000

"On the eve of World AIDS Day Dec. 1, the Indian government has claimed that HIV spread has been arrested in the country, but not many are willing to believe this.

"The rate of spread of HIV/AIDS is not so fast as previously projected and there is evidence that it has reached a plateau," Health Minister C. P. Thakur told a press conference here.

Thakur, however, could not support his claim with statistics. He said the government's National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) was putting together the findings of a 'Sentinel Survey', which will not be available for at least another month.

The minister said questions were being asked in India whether HIV actually causes AIDS. But the government does not accept the view held by some that there is no link between HIV and AIDS. "We do not subscribe to this," he said." Link http://www.aegis.com/news/ips/2000/IP001113.html .

It struck me that Peter Beattie and John Howard are not the only relations of Mr Goebbels in government.

Despite a Royal Commission in QLD into a number of deaths relating to one "surgeon" at Bundaberg (over 60 actually) and witnesses stating this "surgeon carried out heart procedures without anasthetic", Peter Beattie still says "QLD has a world class Health system. A slight change from his statements until yesterday which were "QLD has the best Health system in the world". Perhaps those at Bundaberg may have disagreed with him if they were still here to comment.

Where does this bullshit stop?
