I've got nuz for you...

The ABC's director of news has warned that media needs to be "at the top of its collective game" to prevent a flood of misinformation, as he railed against media infighting that could erode "public perception of all news".

Speaking at the Melbourne Press Club, Justin Stevens said there was a "crisis of trust in media" across Australia and the world.

He noted the ABC remained the most trusted media organisation in the country, according to Roy Morgan research, but the public broadcaster could "never take that for granted".

"We need to vigorously protect that trust and work every single day to ensure we are worthy of it," Stevens said.

meta goes nazi....

US Big Tech cannot stop RT from making its voice heard, the Russian news outlet proclaimed on Tuesday, following Meta’s decision to ban the network from its platforms.

On Monday, the company behind Facebook and Instagram announced that it would remove several news brands, including RT, from its applications over the coming days. It cited alleged “foreign interference activity” to justify the move, aligning with accusations made last week by the US government.

RT commented on the attack against it by saying the contrast between the West’s declared support for fair competition and the actions aimed at undermining it was “cute.”

a bad opinion disguised as an analysis by ian verrender at the ABC (australia)....

BUT FIRST: The BRICS summit in Kazan is only a few weeks away. Should we expect the expansion of the alliance? What criteria should partner countries meet? How is the ‘Collective West’ reacting to BRICS strengthening of its position on the world stage? This was covered in an exclusive interview by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Russian Sherpa for BRICS Sergey Alekseevich RYABKOV to New Eastern Outlook.

investors should demand a reduction of military expenditure, to reduce emissions.....

Over the past few months, a string of large American asset managers have left Climate Action 100+, a global investor group created to ensure that the largest corporate emitters of greenhouse gases take action on climate change. Their departure coincides with intensifying political debate over sustainable investing, as a variety of Republicans have sought to crack down on what they call a “climate cartel.”

GUS: GREGORY, RUSSIA IS TREATING UKRAINE CAREFULLY, RATHER THAN WEAKLY... :

There must be a negotiated end to the Ukraine War. The alternative is nuclear armageddon.

The Russian demands are more negotiable than realised. Following the US-backed Maidan coup of 2014, and the subsequent 2014-5 Minsk accords, Russia gained the promise of autonomy for the two Russian-speaking provinces (oblasts) of Lugansk and Donetsk in Donbas, Ukraine.

trump — a threat to ukraine's future receipt of US military support....

The fact that Ryan Routh was “an ardent supporter of the Ukraine and wants to see Russia attacked, and clearly saw Trump as a threat to Ukraine's future receipt of US military support,” cannot be hidden, says former US State Department official and retired CIA intelligence officer Larry Johnson.

Convict, Zelensky fanboy, would-be Trump assassin: Who is Ryan Routh?

“I'm sure that the Kiev regime is going to distance itself from this. The Kiev regime, along with the apparent support of the CIA, has put together a death list of Americans. A list of Americans who ought to be killed. It's not a list to send them nasty letters. Scott Ritter's on it, I think Douglas McGregor's on it. It is not out of line for them to have done this,” Johnson tells Sputnik.

a handful of arab states and turkiye help israel's war on gaza....

While West Asia’s Axis of Resistance seeks to weaken Israel’s military, economy, and security, a handful of Arab states and Turkiye are secretly striving to bolster Israel and supply its war on Gaza. This is the region’s new ’Axis of Normalization.’

Yemen stands as one of the few Arab states working to mount economic pressure on the occupation state by blocking the shipment of Israeli-bound goods from transiting the Red Sea and other regional waterways.

death of the war on terror....

Colonization … is the best affair of business in which the capital of an old and wealthy country can engage … the same rules of international morality do not apply … between civilized nations and barbarians.

– John Stuart Mill [20 May 1806 – 7 May 1873], quoted by Eileen Sullivan in “Liberalism and Imperialism: JS Mill’s Defense of the British Empire,” Journal of the History of Ideas, vol. 44, 1983.

The events of 11 September 2001 were intended to impose and enshrine a new Exceptionalist paradigm on the young 21st century. History, though, ruled otherwise.

the dumb bigot is the lesser of two evils....

The man behind a botched assassination attempt against Donald Trump at his Florida golf club has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh by multiple media reports citing anonymous law enforcement sources. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the suspect’s identity.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon while the former US President and Republican presidential candidate was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. A Secret Service agent apparently spotted a rifle barrel sticking through the resort's fence and fired several rounds at the threat. The suspect fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-style rifle with a scope and a GoPro camera, but he was later arrested.

”He was not displaying a lot of emotions. He never asked, ‘What is this about?’” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told a press conference.

QUEENSWAY by george galloway — the yuckrainian nazis are now inside number 10.....

On at least one occasion I have made jokes about Galloway’s tendency to wear a hat indoors, a wide brimmed fedora that places him somewhere between Marlon Brando’s Sky Masterson and Robert Mitchum’s Reverend Harry Powell.

It’s a strong look and one, it turns out, not motivated by sheer vanity. I recently discovered, while watching George chat with his friend Steve Topple online (I live a very full life), that Galloway claims he wears the hat to cover the scars he bears after he was assaulted in 2014 (by one Neil Masterson). If this is true, then frankly, the hat wearing is his business and his alone, though I would add that it’s better at least that he wears a snazzy fedora than a forlorn baseball cap. So, chapeau, George.

starliner was making strange sounds while docked to the ISS....

The second week of September was rich in news related to both the Russian and American space programs. Everyone was interested in what would happen to the crew of Boeing’s Starliner, and the Russian lunar program was also intriguing.

The story of the Starliner crew is a sympathetic one. Veteran astronauts Barry Eugene “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita Lyn Williams  launched the first crewed test flight of the seven-seat reusable Starliner on June 5. NASA seemed to sense that it was not yet time to risk seven people. Especially considering that the unmanned Starliner had already failed.

the US military climate......

This week marks 23 years since George W. Bush declared a U.S.-led “war on terror” and the people of Afghanistan and Iraq are still suffering its consequences.

After the U.S. invaded Iraq, an estimated half a million Iraqis were killed and at least 9.2 million were displaced. From 2003-2011, more than 4.7 million Iraqis suffered from moderate to severe food insecurity.

bojo to visit the fatal shores to sell rotten cat turds......

Turns out Liz “Lettuce” Truss, famed for her 49-day reign as Britain’s PM, isn’t the only piece of rotting debris from the Conservative Party’s disastrous final years in power to wash up on these shores.

Truss’ appearance before a few hundred at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Brisbane next month will be swiftly followed by another visit from Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson in December, whose buffoonish three years in No.10 ended with a whimper in 2022 after a series of scandals.

the price of gas.....

It’s sickening to think Australian governments would put the gas cartel and foreign citizens ahead of lower electricity for Australians. But as Rex Patrick reveals from the latest FOI documents, sadly, that’s what they have done.

In October 2022, nine months after Russia invaded Ukraine, then West Australian Premier Mark McGowan gave some unsolicited advice to the federal government on how to deal with surging gas and electricity prices. They should look to his state to find a solution, he told the ABC’s 730 Report.

McGowan was primarily referring to the gas reservation policy that’s been in place in WA since 2006, whereby gas producers are forced to reserve 15% of the gas they produce for use in WA.

germans and the jews....

Most publications that deal with the fate of the Jews in Germany primarily focus on the period between 1939 and 1945. This book is different: it starts much earlier and is primarily devoted to the question of how the German-Jewish dilemma arose.
