French President Emmanuel Macron said this week that the way for Europe to respond to President-elect Donald Trump's election victory is to become an "omnivore."

Macron's Remarks

"For me, it's simple. The world is made up of herbivores and carnivores. If we decide to remain herbivores, then the carnivores will win and we will be a market for them," Macron said during a speech to European leaders, Politico reported.

"I think, at the very least, we should choose to become omnivores. I don't want to be aggressive, just that we know how to defend ourselves on all these subjects," Macron added.

Outgoing president Joe Biden has vowed to ensure a peaceful transition process as Donald Trump enters the White House. Meanwhile, the Republicans have edged closer to controlling Congress.

US President-elect Donald Trump will meet with outgoing president Joe Biden at the White House on Wednesday.

"At President Biden's invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Saturday.

Such meetings are typically part of the transition process.

WASHINGTON (TNND) — MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Wednesday decried President-elect Donald Trump’s electoral victory in a lengthy on-air rant.

Maddow has openly opposed Trump and his supporters, such as billionaire Elon Musk. The anchor on Tuesday described Musk’s relationship with the U.S. an “untenable reality” for national security.

Sharing her reaction to Trump’s projected win, Maddow called on Americans unhappy with Trump's victory to do “more for your country than you have ever before.”

 

“We don’t just flip a switch and the American system of government is gone, democracy is gone,” she said. “It doesn’t work like that.”

The shadow transport minister's admission comes a week after she claimed to have never received any complimentary airline upgrades, amid a wider debate about political travel perks.

The senator has now disclosed she was upgraded to business class on three domestic Qantas flights this year and last year, upgraded five times on Qantas flights between Australia and New Zealand between 2016 and 2018, and on eight more flights between 2015 and 2019 with both Qantas and Virgin.

Retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin, whom President-elect Biden has nominated to serve as defense secretary, today pledged to recuse himself for a period of four years from all matters involving Raytheon Technologies, where he previously served on the board of directors.

Austin had pledged to recuse himself from Raytheon-related matters for one year as required by law, but today told the Senate Armed Services Committee he would go "above and beyond" to ensure the "public has no reason to question my impartiality."

Austin detailed the extension when questioned by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who praised his decision.
