Above 40, 000 confirmed casualties in Gaza, there is a possibility that other 186000 – 240000 have been killed indirectly, going by lower limits of known ratios of direct and indirect deaths in wars. This range suggests that 8-10% of Gaza’s prewar population of 2.3 million has been killed as the world watched.

a raft sailing through space with plenty of provisions for everybody....

Spaceship Earth remains a compelling metaphor for our collective reality. Unfortunately, our ship looks as if it may have been made by an inter-galactic branch of Boeing.

Until I consulted what Tony Abbott might have called the suppository of all wisdom – Wikipedia – I hadn’t realised quite how long the idea of Spaceship Earth had been around. I thought it had been dreamed up by drug addled hippies during the Summer of Love, but it has some longstanding and serious champions, too.

killing people scientifically....

Sunday marks the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, which claimed the lives of as many as 80,000 Japanese, mostly civilians.
On August 6, 1945, the American B-29 bomber Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II.
As many as 80,000 Japanese people, mainly civilians, were immediately killed in the explosion, while tens of thousands more subsequently died of radiation exposure.
August 9, 1945, saw another B-29 dropping another atomic bomb, this time on Nagasaki, which killed a further 74,000 people and resulted in Japan’s surrender six days later. The total death toll eventually reached about 355,000 due to the radiation fallout.

The American economy is too financialized to withstand any sustained drop in asset prices

It’s carnage out there in the markets, and things have been moving with the force of a tsunami.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 plunged more than 12% on Monday in what was the biggest single-day drop since ‘Black Monday’ in 1987. As of this writing, the Dow has dropped some 1,000 points, while the Nasdaq has cratered nearly 4% in what has turned out to be a global market rout.

war, pestilence, recession, anxiety, meltdown.....

Stock markets around the world plunged on Monday, with shares tumbling amid fears that the US could be heading for a recession, pushing investors into panic-selling mode. Japan’s Nikkei is leading the sell-off, down 12.4% – its worst day since the 1987 Black Monday crash.

The situation began to unfold last week after the US released a report showing weaker than expected employment data. Economists say the slump reflected deepening concerns over the overall state of the US economy. Wall Street closed sharply down on Friday, with the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite falling into a correction, with the slide continuing on Monday.

vax reduced heart attacks......

New research produced by British scholars has claimed that vaccination with any Covid-19 shot lowers the incidence of heart attacks and strokes and therefore outweighs the risks of adverse effects.

Researchers from the universities of Cambridge, Bristol and Edinburgh were able to analyze millions of anonymized health records of adults in England, provided by the National Health Service (NHS) and dated from December 2020 to January 2022. By that point, over 90% of the UK population over the age of 12 had received at least one dose of the jab.

“We studied [Covid]-19 vaccines and cardiovascular disease in 45.7 million adults in England and found a similar or lower incidence of common cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks and strokes, following each vaccination than before or without vaccination,” said Dr. Samatha Ip of Cambridge, the lead author of the study.

the israhell apartheid explained...........

The State of Israel recognizes 8 tiers of people under its control. For all 8 tiers, Israel controls the registration of births, marriages, divorces, deaths and address changes. Israel controls the telecommunication networks, electricity grids, water supply, airspace and currency. Israel controls the movement of people in and out of the country. All tiers of people are controlled by a single state, with a single Prime Minister, a single Defense Minister, a single cabinet and a single chain of military command.

free-speech, wrong or right, is losing against propaganda and repression....

In my new book, The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,I write about a global anti-free speech movement that is now sweeping over the United States. While not the first, it is in my view the most dangerous movement in our history due to an unprecedented alliance of government, corporate, academic, and media forces. That fear was amplified this week with polling showing that years of attacking free speech as harmful has begun to change the views of citizens.

playing both sides of the coin.....

With the support of the United Kingdom, Turkey is actively developing a revanchist policy within the framework of the doctrines of non-pan-Turanism and neo-Ottomanism, which is not being met with opposition from the US and EU. At the same time, Ankara is trying to take advantage of anti-Russian pressure from the West and Moscow’s preoccupation with the Ukrainian crisis.

lemons or bananas?: the next gamble in rotten american politics....

US Vice President Kamala Harris has declined former President Donald Trump’s invitation to take part in a televised debate on Fox News next month, insisting that her presidential opponent stick to a previously agreed showdown on ABC News.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump accepted Fox’s proposal that he debate Harris on September 4 in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Trump was scheduled to debate President Joe Biden on ABC News on September 10, before Biden suspended his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris to run in his place late last month. The ABC debate has been “terminated,” Trump explained, citing Biden’s decision to step down, and his pending litigation against ABC host George Stephanopoulos, which he claimed created “a conflict of interest.”

“To maintain a carrier strike group presence in the Middle East, the Secretary has ordered the Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to replace the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, currently on deployment in the Central Command area of responsibility,” reads the Pentagon statement.

increasing the risk that germany itself will turn into a theater of war....

For a government, it's one thing to have bad ideas of its own, but far worse to implement another governments’ bad ideas – and tolerate no debate about them at home.

And yet that's what is happening now in Germany. Or, at least, it is what the unpopular coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz and its proxies in the mainstream media are trying to achieve with regard to the planned stationing of intermediate-range missiles.

how many aussie nukes? two? ten? one hundred? silly artcher with silly ideas.....

We very rarely talk about it [WE DO ON THIS ALT SITE AND OTHER ALT SITES], but Australia has lived under the protection of the US “nuclear umbrella” since the 1960s. The umbrella, however, has developed big holes. Behind the scenes, Australian and US officials quietly have started talking about the problem, and should again next week when Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong and Defence Minister Richard Marles meet their US counterparts for the annual Ausmin consultations.
