A few weeks ago, when John Howard and Kim Beazley, like schoolboys, were trying to outdo each other on "Australian values", a friend asked if I knew of the "must display" poster Brendan Nelson had been responsible for as John Howard's education tsar before Howard moved him, nine months ago, into Defence, to make life as miserable for the military as he had done for the nation's education industry. I didn't, so my friend mailed me one.

It's a striking poster. Set against a blue background, under a stylised logo of the Australian flag, it lists nine of what it headlines as "Values for Australian Schooling". Excuse the maniacal laughter, given what this Government has come to stand for after a decade's debauched political and policy behaviour, but here is the list:

Care and Compassion:

Care for self and others.

Doing Your Best:

Seek to accomplish something worthy and admirable. Try hard; pursue excellence.

Fair go:                                  

Pursue and protect the common good where all people are treated fairly for a just society.

Freedom:                               

Enjoy all the rights and privileges of Australian citizenship free from unnecessary interference or control, and stand up for the rights of others.

Honesty & trustworthiness:      

Be honest, sincere and seek the truth.

Integrity:                                

Act in accordance with principles of moral and ethical conduct. Ensure consistency between words and deeds.

Respect:                                

Treat others with consideration and regard. Respect another person's point of view.

Responsibility:

Be accountable for one's own actions; resolve differences in constructive, non-violent and peaceful ways. Contribute to society and to civic life. Take care of the environment.

Understanding, Tolerance and Inclusion:

Be aware of others and their cultures. Accept diversity within a democratic society, being included and including others."

Gus: the list is impressive but it tends to taint our UnAustralian of the decade with a broad brush of hyopocrisy ...

Hopefully

Hopefully the cartoon above won't act like a red rag to a bull... And entice Johnnee-the-Kid to stay on for another four repeats of the same bottom class... No... It couldn't... Our extraordinary UnAustralian has already committed to a fifth one... and he is already full of his own deciderisation that whatever one does, he can twist the meaning or whatever by spruiking lyrical about what we don't want but what we'll get anyway...

Take your medicine, Gus, and go sleep in the corner...

PRIME MINISTER:

Ladies and gentlemen, I will go to the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Fiji this morning, I am looking forward to the meeting.  It's important that the continuation of the RAMSI mission in the Solomon Islands be very strongly supported because it's in the best interests of the people of that country. Australia is a friendly neighbour in the Pacific, we want to continue to provide significant amounts of aid.  Our only request is that that aid be accompanied by improved standards of governance in the countries that receive the aid and also a better approach to economic development and economic management.  The Australian public does not want to see Australia's overseas aid wasted, there's a lot of support for helping the Pacific in Australia, there's also a lot of support for us asking and requiring that standards of governance and economic performance improve in return for the aid that we provide.

yes sirree, our master of “governance” sets out to lecture our South Pacific neighbours on their deficiencies …. our gang-gang, chief rodent & bushit besiderer - the great liberal democrat whose “governance” credentials have been established time & time again: from the never-ever GST, to children overboard, to Saddam’s WMD, to Telstra, to AWB, to Media laws ….. the list goes on.

The only “values” that little johnnee is fit to lecture anyone about are the corrupt arts of lying & hypocrisy …. what a sick joke.

And what do our "friendly neighbours" think?
