proudly photoshopped vanity...

68

Whoever created the image recently disseminated across China to rouse support for the People’s Liberation Army’s 68th anniversary apparently took a great deal of artistic license in making his vision of “China’s army."

The poster does feature China’s own Liaoning aircraft carrier, which was started by the Soviets before being auctioned off to China, which later put it into operation. But that may be the only thing domestic about the photo.

The jet shown soaring off the ship’s deck? It’s a Russian MiG-35 fighter, the South China Morning Post reports. And those two fearsome combat ship escorting the Liaoning? Those are US amphibious combat vessels. So much for Chinese pride.

“This picture shows everyone at the propaganda department is mentally deficient,” said one commenter on Weibo, a hugely popular social media platform in China.

“We are so patriotic, in vain,” another user exclaimed.

A trio of jets prominently depicted flying past are Chinese jets — J-10s, specifically — but the Chinese version of the jet designed for aircraft carrier take-off and landing are the J-15s, the SCMP points out.

dangerous US vanity...

Wars and rumors of wars have been dominating news cycles of late. No one should be surprised that there is a “former intelligence officer” subculture that is particularly noticeable in the Washington, DC, area. We stay in touch, communicate regularly, have lunches to discuss the “old days,” and sometimes organize to raise objections to some of the foreign follies pursued by the U.S. government. Though we often try to stay under the radar, making personal but discreet contact with sympathetic congressmen and journalists, we sometimes work together to get letters to the editor or articles placed in national publications. More rarely we appear on television or radio to discuss our own perspectives on current events.

There is an additional element that helps shape our perceptions—namely, that many of us are in contact with friends who are still in harness with the Intelligence Community or who are working as post-retirement contractors. Though current employees generally are highly cautious about what they are doing, and we are acutely aware that it is not a good idea to ask anything specific, frustration over specific governmental policies and actions is occasionally vented.

neat trick of the fake...

China’s Defense Ministry has issued an official apology after hundreds of people slammed an online picture commemorating its Navy’s anniversary which features navy ships and fighter jets belonging to other nations.

The image appeared on the defense ministry’s official accounts on the Weibo microblogging website and WeChat (a smartphone instant messaging app) on April 23 to mark the Navy’s 68th birthday. It featured a photoshopped image of a Chinese aircraft carrier alongside several fighter jets as well as two warships and two shadow figures of submarines in the background.

However, people, who saw the picture were quick to point out that the two warships in the background were in fact the US San Antonio class amphibious transport docks while one of the aircraft was a Russian MiG-35 fighter jet.

Having been in this game of crap for longer than most people, Gus can assure you that the "mistakes" in the poster were not done by accident. The theory goes that any publicity or any news is good news and will go to demonstrate the point that you have something "new". Hogging the "social media" and other media as well with this "derision" is far better than being ignored, which the general MMMM (mediocre mass media de merdia) would do. As well, the information that the new Chinese aircraft carrier could be a state of the arts war machine is swept under the carpet. It will be fully operational within six months and able to challenge the might of the empire's own.

"Everyone knows" that the next war won't be won by such machines, which are only made to lure people into a deluded comfort zone because one has one to alert the others that one has one. The next big war if one of these floating firecrackers sneezes a bit too much will be fought with ICBMs as planned since the 1950s. You have been warned.

And by the way, the bow wave is as fake as that made by a rubber duckie in a bath tub. The surface of the sea is that of small ripples made to look like waves....

seriously, a game changer...

Following the launch of the Chinese Type 001 aircraft carrier, the question arises whether it marks the shift in the balance of power in the Asia-Pacific region. Although in the near future the US and China are likely to maintain the established status quo in the region, in the long run the situation may change, observers assume.

Beijing's launch of the Type 001A aircraft carrier from the Dalian shipyard of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. has become a national event. Meanwhile, observers wonder whether or not the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) is going to shift the balance of power in the Asia-Pacific region.

"The Chinese fleet is the second to that of the US, in some respects, it is comparable to the Japanese one and surpasses all other fleets [in the region]," Andrei Frolov, Russian military expert and editor-in-chief of Arms Export, told Russian online newspaper Vzglyad.

He believes that the Chinese fleet surpasses even the Russian Pacific Fleet, "maybe with the exception of the submarine component."

"We have more nuclear submarines there, and their technical characteristics exceed those of the Chinese [underwater vessels]. But many nuclear submarines are currently under repair," the expert noted
