truth, justice and liberty the derryn hinch (the human headlice) way...

derryn's way

Derryn Hinch has long played the "nice guy" image. He's not nice. He is an opportunistic bastard who is prepared to sell the soul of this country for his pension as a senator. He should be thrown out as soon as possible. The only thing he understood about truth, freedom and justice is ... ratings (TV and radio).

-------

Newly elected senator Derryn Hinch has claimed that he will be pushing changes to the controversial section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act to allay fears that Australia just isn’t quite racist enough already.

Hinch has claimed he will be pushing for the changes after extensive conversations with fellow senators Cory Bernardi and Pauline Hanson lead to an agreement that Australia was not quite reaching its discrimination potential and needed to loosen the restrictions to really achieve the great heights of terrible lows.

“Look around at the nation today,” Hinch said to The Backburner. “In the last couple of weeks we’ve had suggestions on national television that we should ban all Muslims from entering the country, we’ve had revelations of horrific abuse of Indigenous children in detention, and now we’re talking about an incredibly racist cartoon in a national newspaper - it really seems like this is the time to make our restrictions on discriminatory speech even looser.

“I mean, people are feeling really restricted and worried about just how racist they can be. Sure, no one has been fired for expressing their horrific opinions on the national stage - if anything it has just lead to their best clicks and more media opportunities - but what we have to ask is can we make it even easier for people to publically marginalise others.

“The last thing we want is for the people trying to attack others to feel attacked. Sure, the very next section of the act - 18D - kind of covers anyone if there was any truth to their argument and if it had merit or was in the public’s interest, but is that enough? What if someone wants to be racist just for the fun of it? Why should they be hurt just for hurting others?

at least she gets it...

lambie

The Turnbull government is struggling to lock in crossbench support for its controversial changes to section 18C of the race discrimination laws.

The overhaul, which includes removing the words 'insult, offend and humiliate' and inserting a new 'reasonable person's' test, will be put to the Senate by the end of this week.

Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie will be pivotal to the outcome of the vote.

changes are cruel and unfair...

Winner: Jacqui Lambie

Fran Kelly: Lambie came out strongly and said the Government's welfare changes are cruel and unfair, and she really spoke from the heart.

There was clear emotion in her voice as she recalled her own experiences about relying on these kind of entitlements.

She accused Pauline Hanson of being out of touch with the battlers, and I think she really showed empathy that comes from real life experience.
