Julia Gillard says she has no regrets about calling the election so many months in advance and believes Labor can still win, despite repeated polls showing the party is set for an historic defeat.
The Prime Minister has told the Women's Weekly, in an interview conducted last month, that she is "glad" she announced the election date of September 14 eight months out.
"Every time I pick up a newspaper and it's got articles about our school agenda... I think to myself, gee, I'm glad I cleared all of that space - got all that early election fever, to make sure we were talking about some of the big policy ideas," she said.
"Because I know even from the few short weeks I was Prime Minister before the 2010 election, I know how ridiculous this can be. People trying to chase the car I'm in just in case I'm going to see the Governor-General.
"The debate about the election shouldn't be about when it is, it should be about what future we are choosing for the nation when we vote."

Meanwhile poor silly Christopher Pyne can't control himself and still makes primary school level puns about "Julia spinning a yarn"... Ah ah ah... No substance to Christopher's rants, not even style... just puerility... Pyne just spins silly porkies daily...
More importantly, in the great hall of the Sydney Opera house today, at the fabulous celebrations of Hazel Hawke's life, there were four former Prime Ministers, Hawke, Keating, Howard and Rudd who according to my biased sources looked like death warmed up. There were others former ministers and former premiers plus Barry O'Farrell...
And there was one radiant Prime Minister, a woman, Julia Gillard, who would have had plenty on her mind to deal with but kept her serenity. There was also a plethora of other great women — including the Governor General — who, I have been told, did not mentioned the F (feminism) word and the M (misogyny) word, but knew what it had been about and is now — women breaking a glass ceiling in the greater context of male domination...

Some people may dismiss Russell Crowe as a light weight actor who knows nothing about politics...
Wrong...
Russell knows about politics: he got involved in South Sydney Rabbittohs, did he not?... Dealing with the internal politics at the time Russell got involved in running the club would have demanded tremendous political skills..
You are wondering where I am going with this strange rant... Well tonight, Russell was interviewed by Leigh Sales on the 7:30 report "about his tweets supporting Julia Gillard"... I believe he gave only one part of his answer...
The other part, I think, is that Crowe simply likes her "No-Bullshit" style. He would be appalled at the way the mainstream mass media is always twisting things up. Russell know the way the media twisted the facts when the South Sydney Rabbitohs were being ousted of the comp... I don't think Russell is going to make many friends in the media this way — a media hell bent on destroying Julia Gillard... But the Rabbits are 3 points clear at the top of the ladder, and this should give Russell a bit of leeway...

Nowhere to be seen. The Daily Telegraph and the News.com.au site were running a fiercely animated countdown clock that showed seconds and hundredth of second to the election... It was a way to tell their adoring public that they could not wait for the day Julia Gillard was going to be smacked on the butt... But then came Mr Rudd, who some people like me may not like much, but if he does the job of getting Abbott out of the way, He will do the greatest service to this nation that one person can do... So the clock has vanished... Meanwhile Prue MacSween (or whatever her name is) has labelled him a psychopath... I would not go that far, here... Prue of course is a liar, a con artist and a fake who spruiks any garbage for the Libs (CONservatives)... She has no clue about a zillion subjects but still gives her useless opinion...
Meanwhile I can say, having done the numbers that Abbott is bordering on the sociopath-way...

A KNITTED stuffed kangaroo is likely to be dumped for "something precious" as the official gift from Australia to the royal baby.
Prince William and Catherine Middleton are expected to welcome the newest arrival to the royal family within days.
A spokeswoman for Kevin Rudd said his wife Therese Rein and daughter Jessica were currently mulling over the gift to be given to the third in line to the throne.
"It will be Australian, precious and very special for both baby and Mum," the spokeswoman said.
