Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns "people will die" after sudden restrictions on the military version of SpaceX's Starlink satellites — a vital tool in Ukraine's defence system — appeared to slow the country's drones on the battlefield.

Russia rained more missiles and drones down on Ukrainian cities, knocking out electricity for hundreds of thousands of people in attacks Mr Zelenskyy called "ostentatious disrespect" for US President Donald Trump's call for an energy ceasefire.

Mr Zelenskyy also said Ukraine had been denied the usual advance warning from its Western partners about oncoming strikes, deepening fears that Kyiv's relationship with Washington was unravelling.

In an interview on the Piers Morgan Uncensored podcast published on Tuesday, local time, Mr Zelenskyy said he agreed with comments calling Russian president Vladimir Putin the "Hitler of our time".

Mr Zelenskyy stopped short of saying Mr Putin was an "evil" mastermind, but said people were afraid and calling for the US to be "on our side".

Mr Trump's rhetoric towards Ukraine and Mr Zelenskyy has hardened in recent weeks, with the US president agreeing to lift sanctions on Russian diesel exports.

Mr Trump also called for Ukraine to find a new president.

In response to increasingly frosty relations between Washington and Kyiv, Mr Zelenskyy told Morgan that it was a "pity" for Ukraine to lose a "strong partner".

Asked about the restriction on the military version of SpaceX's Starlink services in Ukraine, Mr Zelenskyy said the decision to restrict them was "a big mistake".

 "This decision will bring a lot of human losses," he said, although he did not say who was responsible.

"People will die."

Mr Zelenskyy also said he was comfortable with Mr Trump being between Ukraine and Russia, but added: "If you are in the middle, you have to stay in the middle."

Asked if he felt betrayed by Mr Trump, Mr Zelenskyy said: "Really, yes … but it's a little bit more complicated than just my emotions or my feelings.

"We are not selling our country … it's not about business for us, it's just our life, and this is our country."

With his popularity sliding in the polls, Mr Trump has sought to frame Ukrainian drone attacks as being responsible for high diesel prices, rather than the ongoing war between the US and Iran.

He has argued lifting sanctions on Russian diesel would bring down fuel prices, but the move has been criticised by European leaders.

The US has crucial midterm elections on November 3, and voters are increasingly expressing frustration over the cost of living and high inflation.

While Mr Trump is not on the ballot, his agenda could face greater opposition if the Democrats seize control of the House of Representatives and Senate.

Ukraine targeted two Russian oil refineries on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak has said.

The facilities are in Russia’s Saratov and Ryazan regions, Novak said on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week forum. He did not specify whether either refinery sustained damage.

“We can see that the Ukrainian side is making no moves towards an energy ceasefire,” Novak said, referring to a limited ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev proposed by US President Donald Trump.

On Sunday, Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire. Neither Moscow nor Kiev, however, has confirmed the truce, sending out mixed messages on the matter.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said the announcement “was news” for him, but expressed readiness to stop attacking Russian refineries should Moscow halt strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The Prime Minister welcomed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to Downing Street this afternoon.

The leaders began by reflecting on their call on Saturday, and Russia’s blatant indiscriminate attacks on civilians and energy infrastructure since President Trump called for an energy ceasefire.

It was clear that Russia had no interest in peace, the leaders underlined.

Turning to how Ukraine’s allies could step up support, particularly in response to Russia’s barrage of jet-powered drones, the Prime Minister set out the UK’s latest package of Lightweight Multirole Missiles.

The UK would continue to develop innovative military solutions for use on the battlefield in Ukraine, including retrofitting British capability onto equipment gifted from other partners, the Prime Minister added.

On long range missiles, the leaders discussed how the UK could accelerate defensive support to Ukraine ahead of the winter.

The UK would also continue its diplomatic efforts to support international supplies of defensive equipment too, the Prime Minister added.

Both looked forward to speaking again soon.
