This week's high-school protests in France against cuts to education funding, while not imminently heralding 'the fall of France', do indicate enormous budgetary strain due to the energy crisis and the redirection of funding towards military procurement. Similarly, protests in Spain against rising house prices and rents expose the downside to encouraging mass immigration to solve Europe's demographic crisis: without large inward migration, there would be no housing crisis.
NewsReal: Ponzi Trap - Why Western Govts Must 'Roll Over The Debt And Deceive'
Sott.net
Earlier this summer, Trump nixed one of his own campaign projects to make housing more affordable for first-time buyers in the US. All Western government policy these days - domestic and foreign - seems to be undertaken with one overarching policy in mind: Roll over the debt, and deceive. Western governments are fundamentally constrained within a ponzi scheme that they must sustain, lest stocks fall and debts begin unwinding. The result would be a repeat of the 2007 'credit crunch', but on steroids.
This can't go on indefinitely of course, but until 'the music stops', the 'great powers' are attempting to eke out every geopolitical advantage they can. Hence Trump is again threatening to have another go at 'winning' against Iran, 'perhaps after the Mid-Term Elections', while the Russia-Ukraine and the Saudi-Yemen wars escalate further. Speaking of upcoming elections, was it pure coincidence that a 'plane hijacking incident' bolstered Netanyahu's campaign?

Investor and analyst Simon Dixon on why govts must "roll over the debt, and deceive": a recession and falling stocks simply aren't allowed, so the only way through is 'growth by any means'.
AI Summary
France & Spain: Protests vs. Mainstream Narratives
- France's "Fall" is Exaggerated: Social media and click-driven outlets amplify youth protests into a narrative of national collapse. In reality, demonstrations stem from school conditions, mobile phone bans, chronic teacher shortages, and burnout. France has a long cultural and political tradition of street protests; this unrest is intense but not unprecedented or indicative of state failure.
- Spain's Housing Crisis: Massive Madrid protests focus on skyrocketing rents, "vulture funds" (e.g., BlackRock), and unaffordable housing. Far-right narratives frame this as an immigration-driven crisis, while leftist perspectives emphasize economic inequality and policy failures. Both sides reflect underlying demographic and structural strains in Western Europe.
Global Economy & Systemic Debt Management
- Deliberate "Roll Over & Deceive" Policy: Western policymakers are trapped in a debt-sustained financial system where the only viable strategy is to perpetually inflate/devalue debt rather than restructure it. Structural reforms (e.g., housing affordability bills, stabilizing monetary policy) are shelved because they threaten short-term market stability.
- Policymakers Know Better: Central banks and treasuries are aware of economically stabilizing alternatives (e.g., Richard Werner's quantitative easing models, asset restructuring during crises) but intentionally avoid them to maintain financial markets, implying that sustained instability serves elite or hegemonic interests.
Geopolitical Shift: Decline of US Hegemony & Rise of Multipolarity
- End of Unipolar Order: The post-Cold War American-led system is fracturing due to loss of cheap Russian energy, widening trade deficits with China, and Global South pushback (e.g., African nations localizing resource processing like Burkina Faso minting gold).
- Strategic Retrenchment: Traditional powers are forced into reactive, zero-sum policies. Alliances are being reassessed as countries navigate BRICS expansion, Sino-Russian economic integration, and the end of Western resource extraction dominance in Africa and the Middle East.
Ukraine War & Escalation Risks
- Refinery Strikes Fuel Global Tensions: Ukraine's planned escalation against Russian oil refineries worsens diesel/fuel shortages worldwide. Western leaders frame Russia as the sole aggressor while largely ignoring historical NATO expansion provocations.
- Leadership Detachment from Reality: Politicians (e.g., Jacob Rees-Mogg) promote deterrence narratives that risk catastrophic miscalculation, driven by elite incentives to maintain influence rather than prevent war. Constant brinkmanship continues despite clear evidence of mutual vulnerability.
Middle East: Netanyahu, Proxies & Regional Stability
- Netanyahu's Political Calculus: The Oct 7 attacks and recent suspicious co-pilot plane incident align with Netanyahu's election timeline, suggesting conflict may be leveraged (or permitted) to secure political survival and avoid legal consequences.
- Iran-Houthi-Gulf Dynamics: Houthis pressure Saudi Arabia but also tacitly allow some Gulf oil to flow out, likely in exchange for unofficial compensation or regional stability agreements. Iran avoids suicidal escalation but will retaliate against direct threats.
- Pakistan's Troop Deployment: Sending ~40,000 troops to Saudi Arabia is framed not as pro-Iran alignment, but as a stabilizing move to prevent US/Israel from triggering a Gulf energy collapse that would devastate Pakistan's economy.
- Covert Arms & Proxy Networks: Regional conflicts are sustained by hidden arms flows (North Korea, Russia, China) and Western weapon redistribution via Ukraine. Traditional allies are recalibrating allegiances amid shifting power balances.
Overarching Thesis
- Instability is Maintained, Not Accidental: Systemic chaos across Europe, the Middle East, and global markets is not a series of independent failures but the result of deliberate policy choices that preserve short-term hegemonic control at the expense of long-term stability.
- No Structural Reform Without Collapse: Leaders avoid systemic reset because it would expose unpayable debts, undermine financial markets, and cede global influence. The world is transitioning into a contested multipolar order where managing decay replaces genuine resolution.
