Conservative parties unite in Qld
By Chris O'Brien
The Queensland Liberals and Nationals have merged after an historic vote by both parties in Brisbane.
The joint constitution has been passed overwhelmingly by delegates in separate meetings at an inner-city hotel, followed by a symbolic opening of the doors to allow the two groups to meet as one.
The bitter legal argument which divided the Liberal Party in the past few days made way for celebrations as the new Liberal-National Party was born.
However Liberals' president Mal Brough warns the Nationals must now ensure Liberal Gary Spence gets the presidency of the Liberal-National Party (LNP).
"No it's not fully done and dusted but I would sincerely hope that the National Party honour the agreement that they had passed to us late yesterday afternoon," he said.
