RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, committing both nations to a structured partnership on environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Saudi Arabia, Russia forge green alliance in Moscow Cooperation will be implemented through exchange of information, visits, organization of joint conferences, seminars, training courses
Signed by the Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Mansour Al-Mushaiti — who is leading a high-level Saudi delegation to Russia — and Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Alexander Kozlov, the agreement will contribute to strengthening joint efforts to preserve natural resources and achieve environmental sustainability, in accordance with the legislation of both countries. The memorandum seeks to expand collaboration between the two countries in protecting the environment as cooperation will span a broad range of areas, including expanding vegetation cover, curbing land degradation, and managing forests sustainably. It also covers the development of systems to oversee protected areas and nature reserves, tighter environmental monitoring and waste management, and support for scientific research on protecting and rehabilitating rare and endangered species. The two sides further agreed to step up efforts to combat the illegal trade in endangered flora and fauna and to protect the flyways and resting grounds of migratory birds in both countries. The memorandum also emphasizes conserving ecosystems and biodiversity and exchanging technical expertise to advance environmental initiatives to build on each side’s successful experiences. This cooperation will be implemented through the exchange of information, expert visits, and the organization of joint conferences, seminars, and training courses, supervised by a newly formed joint working group to follow up on future environmental opportunities. https://www.arabnews.com/node/2646118/saudi-arabia
