algeria embraces the future with peace and inventions....
Recent history has confirmed what I wrote: the Algerian army is not and will never be an expansionist force. Unlike Western armies that have sown chaos in the Sahel and destroyed regional balances under the guise of the "springtime philosophy" of Bernard-Henri Lévy and his local cronies, such as Boualem Sansal and Kamel Daoud, Algeria maintains a strict doctrine of non-interference and peace.
The great bluff of geopolitical fiction: When the reality of 2026 sweeps away fantasies about Algeria BY Omar CHAALAL
Faced with the Makhzen's incessant provocations on our western borders—the same Makhzen whose tradition of compromise with colonial powers dates back to the shameful Treaty of Tangier of 1844, in which Emir Abdelkader was betrayed—Algeria has responded with rigorous strategic restraint. We know our strengths: we are the second-largest military power on the continent, a hydrocarbon giant, and an indispensable geostrategic pivot. We do not need territorial conquests to exist. Time is the ultimate judge in politics and geopolitics. In May 2024, I was already writing in these very pages, publishing my first article denouncing the narrative excesses of certain Parisian newspapers. I was targeting the work of journalist Alexandra Saviana and her book, *The Dark Scenarios of the French Army*. Among her political fiction exercises, a bombastic headline blazed across the pages of *L’Express*: “December 2025: An Algerian Junta Targets Toulon.” Today, it is May 2026. The year 2025 has ended, and no Algerian ship has blockaded the Toulon harbour. Alexandra Saviana’s grand nightmare has evaporated, fully vindicating the analyses I published two years ago. All that remains of her prose is the emptiness of media speculation and the recycling of post-colonial neuroses.
The Shadow of Toulon and the Nostalgic Compost Why Toulon? I once pointed out that this port city arbors, within its very geography, a "Rue d'Alger" (Algerian Street), named in memory of the colonial conquest of 1830. It was there, in 1962, that the trauma of repatriation crystallised, making this region the fertile ground for an aggressive nostalgia and the cradle of the French far right. By positioning Algeria as the virtual aggressor of Toulon, the journalist did not engage in military forecasting; she simply stirred up the mud of a colonial unconscious traumatised by the loss of its "Eden." She reversed the roles: the formerly colonised becoming the invader, a classic rhetorical sleight of hand to justify the West's security anxieties.
While they fantasise about war, Algeria is inventing the future. The contrast in 2026 is striking. While these media circles are entrenched in trench warfare and anxiety-inducing projections, what is Algeria doing? It is establishing itself as an essential scientific, energy, and industrial power in Africa and the Arab world [1.1]. The real Algeria is not planning the invasion of Southern Europe. It is planning the future of global energy. This Algeria, with its educated youth and colossal infrastructure, is becoming the essential hub for green hydrogen destined for Europe and is deploying the largest solar park projects on the continent. While they theorise about destruction and sink into anxiety, Algeria is deploying its industrial ingenuity and resources to design the energy solutions of tomorrow.
An Unwavering Doctrine of Peace Recent history has confirmed what I wrote: the Algerian army is not and will never be an expansionist force. Unlike Western armies that have sown chaos in the Sahel and destroyed regional balances under the guise of Bernard-Henri Lévy's "springtime philosophy," actively promoted by former ambassador Xavier Driencourt — a veritable troublemaker relentlessly working to destabilize our national cohesion with his venomous media pronouncements — and by their local cronies such as Boualem Sansal and Kamel Daoud, Algeria maintains a strict doctrine of non-interference and peace. Faced with the Makhzen's incessant provocations on our western borders—the same Makhzen whose tradition of compromise with colonial powers dates back to the shameful Treaty of Tangier of 1844, in which Emir Abdelkader was betrayed — Algeria has maintained rigorous strategic restraint. We know our strengths: we are the second-largest military power on the continent, a hydrocarbon giant, and an essential geostrategic pivot. We do not need territorial conquests to exist.
The blindness of a "seer" in the face of the diplomatic dance of 2026 While the journalist fancied herself a "seer" of the armed forces by prophesying missile strikes, the events of 2026 have definitively transformed her into a politically blind man. At the very moment these lines are being written, high-level French delegations are arriving in Algiers one after another. This diplomatic dance of intense economic and technological tension proves that, far from the total war delusions propagated by L’Express, the French government is perfectly aware of where its rational strategic interests lie. Paris is not negotiating with an imaginary aggressor, but is seeking a partnership with Algeria, the indispensable linchpin of Mediterranean and energy security. This alignment of pragmatic realities definitively ridicules Alexandra Saviana’s barroom prophecies, demonstrating that the highest levels of the state prefer concrete diplomacy to the fear-mongering scenarios designed for the nostalgic far right.
Conclusion: Breaking Free from the Virtual Mirage To the Algerians, I reiterate my message of vigilance: our country is a crossroads of major assets. Do not succumb to the siren call of cognitive warfare and the media fictions concocted in Paris to make you doubt your homeland. And to Alexandra Saviana and her colleagues: 2025 is over. Your "dark scenarios" have aged like bad milk. It's time to heal from your colonial traumas and accept that the world has changed. Algeria is moving forward, with science as its compass and peace as its guiding principle. Omar Chaalal
