The majority of parents would not want mobile phones banned from NSW schools, despite students using them to film violence or bullying, Education Minister John Della Bosca says. The terra today revealed that mobile phones equipped with video cameras are causing violence and chaos in NSW schools as students seek instant fame on websites such as YouTube. However Della Bosca said banning phones was not the answer. "Mobile phones are not to be used during school ... and mobile phones are banned from some school communities," he said. "Parents, however, in many cases, want young people to have access to mobile phones on their way to and from school." Wave of violence ... educating George Pell
The Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, George Pell, has endorsed the Federal Opposition's education policy.
At the last election the Catholic Church strongly criticised former Labor leader Mark Latham's education plans and his private school hit-list.
Today, Cardinal Pell declared his support for the Party's current policy.
"I'm certainly happy to endorse the education policy for the Catholic and independent schools of the Labor Party," he said.
"I had quite a long meeting with shadow minister for Education Stephen Smith and I met a couple of times with Mr Rudd."
