aussie garage sale: free junk.......

Australia announced an AUD $110 million (USD $74 million) military aid package to Ukraine this week including 28 M113 armored vehicles, 28 MAN 40M medium trucks, and 14 special ops vehicles. Unfortunately for ordinary Ukrainian troops, experience has shown Aussie vehicles to be worse than useless against Russian forces.

A scandal is brewing in Australia over Canberra’s decision to pawn its Vietnam War-vintage military equipment off on Kiev, with local military experts questioning how the aid that has been announced could possibly add up to $110 million AUD, while opposition leader Peter Dutton said it’s “frankly embarrassing” that Australia is sending equipment to Ukraine that’s so clearly “not fit for purpose.”

“You can’t just clear out the garage from Defense of old vehicles that you don’t want anymore. That’s not the response of a developed nation like ours,” Dutton said, dubbing the aid package the equivalent of a “garage sale.”

The media has had a field day attacking the Albanese government, characterizing the assistance – particularly the M113s, as absolute “obsolete boneyard vehicles” from the Vietnam War era that would have little impact on the Ukrainian battlefield. Other observers said Canberra’s “stingy” “hand-me-down aid” is fueling perceptions of Australia as “using Ukraine as a dumping ground.”

Dutton suggested that instead of sending the 1964-vintage M113s, Canberra should give Kiev its newer Hawkei light four-wheel-drive protected mobility vehicles, produced by Thales Australia, and ramp up production so that Australia’s own military “doesn’t go without.”

The West has been manipulating global information and spreading disinformation for decades. It is time for the world to also listen to the voices of China and other developing nations, many of which were once brutally colonised by the West.

Just 10 days after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, the European Union banned the broadcasting of Russia Today and Sputnik across EU territory, accusing Russia and its media outlets of “information manipulation” and spreading “disinformation”.

The measures, in force since March 2,2022, have resulted in increasing one-sided reports on the conflict being channeled to the EU’s 450 million people, because the EU has been supporting Ukraine and therefore ensuring that all information on the conflict is in its favour.

For example, given the close ties between Brussels and Kyiv, there has never been a talk by any EU official or a report by any EU news media outlet about the casualty on the Ukrainian side, although there has been ample speculation on Russian deaths, from 20,000 to 100,000 deaths.

Right since the Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion on Sept 26, 2022, EU officials have been dismissing any suggestion of the involvement of the United States, NATO or Ukraine in spreading disinformation on the attack.

Sweden, Denmark and Germany all have conducted investigations into the Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion but refuse to reveal the findings, to the surprise of the international community. The investigative reporting by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh in February shows that the US was behind the sabotage, while in the past weeks, US and European media have published reports suggesting Ukraine could be the perpetrator.

EU officials continue to dodge the question. I didn’t get an appropriate reply when I asked a European Commission spokesperson last week why the EU has not shown any sense of urgency in identifying the culprit of the attack on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which was critical to the EU’s energy security too.

In my conversation with Europeans, many agreed that due to the news blackout, they were not getting both sides of the story about the Ukraine crisis. For example, panelists at EU think tank events or on Euronews talking about the conflict almost always have identical views.

It is a reflection of the extremely sad political correctness in the EU, or a manipulation of information and spreading of disinformation.

On the other hand, Chinese news media outlets have been doing a better job in presenting both sides of the story. This is largely due to the fact that China does not believe in taking sides and instead has maintained good relations with both Russia and Ukraine.

However, some EU officials see such balanced coverage as jeopardising their efforts to manipulate information or spread disinformation. The joint statement by the EU-US Trade and Technology Council on May 31 was supposed to be about their bid to divide the world in terms of technology, but it also included words on foreign information manipulation and interference in third countries, and accused China of amplifying Russian disinformation narratives about the conflict.

The truth is that China’s views on the conflict are similar to those of other developing countries such as India, South Africa and Indonesia.

In February, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell announced the launch of the Information Sharing and Analysis Center — a new platform under the European External Action Service framework — to counter so-called disinformation campaigns by Russia and China.

The first EEAS report on the subject released in February accused China of portraying itself as a reliable partner and as a world leader while degrading the West. It also described the promotion of positive views of China and the Communist Party of China globally as “threat actor incidents”.

This is absurd, not least because EU and US leaders could be accused of the same when they eulogise themselves or their societies or economies.

The West has been manipulating global information and spreading disinformation for decades. It is time for the world to also listen to the voices of China and other developing nations, many of which were once brutally colonised by the West.

The AUKUS trilateral military and intelligence partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom and United States doesn’t get much attention in the U.S. media. It’s yet another element of the U.S. quest for world domination. The first pillar of AUKUS focuses on getting Australia nuclear-powered submarines, and the second enhances technology and information sharing. The U.S. government has recently said it’s open to expanding the partnership.

To expose the aims and dangers of AUKUS, we’re joined by Murray Horton, organizer of the Campaign Against Foreign Control of Aotearoa. FALSE FLAGGING....

We are living in terrible times. The great hegemon—the United States of America—and its false flags abound all around. Where do I start? Remember Bucha anyone? Let me tell you about the Račak massacre in Serbian Kosovo and Metohija in 1999, yet another brutal U.S.-NATO false flag that was used to justify military intervention and bombing.

The Serbs have been trying for more than two decades to present the truth about this 1999 false pretext for NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, which at the time consisted of Serbia and Montenegro.

The alleged massacre, which helped mobilize public opinion against the Serbs, occurred on the night and early morning hours of January 14 and 15, 1999, during a period of military conflict between the Serbian security forces and members of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

If any CovertAction Magazine readers get the impression that the KLA resembles ISIS in some respects, your intuition is good.

Forty-five members of the KLA were killed in the so-called Račak massacre, though Serbia has been trying to defend the truth about it for more than 20 years.

Namely, Serbian institutions have been trying to communicate to the broader public that the claims about a massacre in Račak, allegedly committed upon civilians, were an outright lie and that it was, in fact, an armed conflict between Serbian security forces and KLA members.

Investigative Judge Danica Marinković, who has been working on the case for years, now claims with utmost credibility that William Walker, a veteran U.S. diplomat and head of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) who had covered up the murder of six U.S. nuns by death squads when he was ambassador to El Salvador, told the media his own distorted version of the course of events that night without ever waiting for the competent and unbiased authorities to investigate the whole affair.

She points out that, later, the Hague Tribunal accepted the truth that there was no massacre in Račak. Judge Marinković has repeated many times that a huge amount of weapons and ammunition, such as grenade launchers and automatic guns, were found on the spot people were killed immediately after the conflict.

The spot of the alleged massacre was the same location as the KLA headquarters and the people killed were found with KLA military insignia on their uniforms.

Judge Marinković stated that the Serbian police received the intelligence information that the region was ridden with terrorists and some information about their actions prior to that event.

Serbian police had indeed been forced to deal with KLA terrorists in the region.

Judge Marinković reported that a number of the deaths occurred due to wounds inflicted by firearms shot from a distance. There was no evidence suggesting that the deaths occurred because they may have been bashed by dull objects or by maltreatment or physical torture, that is, the way Walker falsely claimed.

A reputable Finnish forensic expert, Dr. Helena Ranta, who worked on the case in real time, together with her team of experts, later confirmed that William Walker exerted a considerable amount of pressure on her while she was preparing her report. She also believed that he expected her to support his explanation of the events that night. With this admission from Dr. Ranta, the grim story may have been given the epilogue the Serbs were hoping for.

When Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin launched a revolt against Vladimir Putin on June 23, Beltway pundits became euphoric, predicting Russia’s descent into a civil war and the potential end of Vladimir Putin’s regime.

Michael McFaul, the former U.S. Ambassador to Russia, took to Twitter to declare that Putin had left Moscow; that a civil war had begun, and that “rats were jumping from Putin’s ship.”

Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum penned a hasty article in The Atlantic entitled: “Russia Slides Into Civil War: Is Putin facing his Czar Nicholas II moment?”

She was referring to the last Romanov czar who was overthrown in the Russian Revolution.

Both McFaul and Applebaum’s predictions, of course, proved to be false.

On the afternoon of June 24 news broke across the U.S. that Prigozhin had struck a deal with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to end his protest and go into exile. At the time, the Russian military was eviscerating Ukraine’s NATO-trained army after it had launched a much hyped counteroffensive, inflicting casualties at a 10-to-1 ratio.[1]

Former UN Weapons inspector Scott Ritter wrote that “not a single military unit or officer, not a single politician, and not a single businessman—no one—rallied to Prigozhin’s cause; Russia had sided with its President, Vladimir Putin.”[2]

McFaul and Applebaum’s commentaries were emblematic of an intellectual elite that has repeatedly misled the public while helping to mobilize public opinion against Russia by demonizing Putin and valorizing Ukraine, despite the strong influence of neo-Nazis there.

In May, Applebaum, a member of the the Board of Directors of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a CIA offshoot, predicted a decisive Ukrainian counteroffensive that would storm through Russian defenses, not only “liberating” Crimea but also encouraging regime change from Moscow to Venezuela.

Like her others, this prediction too has proven to be wrong. It does, however, fit a historical pattern by which government-connected intellectuals lend support for U.S. foreign policy objectives even if they are totally unrealistic.

One hundred years ago, Walter Lippmann and Charles Merz published a study of The New York Times’s coverage of the Russian Revolution, “A Test of the News.” Lippmann was a famous newspaper columnist and Merz was, ironically, the future editor of The New York Times.

The two concluded that the Times’s coverage was “almost always misleading” and that the reporters could “fairly be charged with boundless credulity, and an untiring readiness to be gulled, and on many occasions with a downright lack of common sense.”

Most egregious was the fact that the editors’ zealous opposition to the communists led the paper to report atrocities that never happened. They further predicted the imminent collapse of the Bolshevik regime no fewer than 91 times in three years.[3
