‘Prince Harry will not be sent to Iraq as previously planned, with Britain's army chief insisting concerns for his safety had forced the decision.

The 22-year-old prince, third-in-line to the throne, was "very disappointed" by the announcement, a royal spokesman said, but he added that he would not quit the army.

General Sir Richard Dannatt acknowledged that Prince Harry would not be pleased with the decision, but said the risk that he and fellow troops would be targeted was too great.

"I have decided today that Prince Harry will not deploy as a troop commander with his squadron," he said in a statement, adding that his decision was "final".

"There have been a number of specific threats - some reported and some not reported - which relate directly to Prince Harry as an individual.

"These threats expose not only him but also those around him to a degree of risk that I now deem unacceptable."

Prince Harry is a second lieutenant in the elite Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry.’

About-Turn On Prince Harry Iraq Deployment

hardly surprising ....

a classic confirmation of our "values" .... position, privilege & protection for the elites .... cannon fodder, betrayal & death for the punters.

Anyone who hasn't already done so might reflect on how the value of 3,000 amerikan lives lost in the tragedy of 911 can equate to the more than 1,000,000 Iraqis whose lives have been snuffed-out by the armchair warrior princes: "aussie tony", bushit & rattus?

How many of the sons & daughters of these callous warmongering butchers are front & centre in the "war on terra" .... a prize for anyone who can name a single one.

This was the first time Her Majesty has met the leader of a Scottish government who is committed to Scotland rejoining the community of nations as an equal and independent partner.
