protection rackets .....

From the ABC .....

Ruddock accused of vilifying Jack Thomas

The defence barrister for Victorian man Jack Thomas has accused the federal Attorney-General of vilifying his client in the media.

Mr Thomas had his terrorism-related conviction overturned earlier this month but was yesterday put under a 12-month control order.

Lawyer Lex Lasry, QC, says Attorney-General Philip Ruddock's decision to call a media conference rather than just confirm the order is an unfortunate intrusion of politics into the legal process.

"The Attorney-General stood in front of the media for something like 20
minutes yesterday," Mr Lasry said.

"The overwhelming message from that and this morning's newspapers is that Mr Thomas is someone from whom the Australian community needs to be protected.

"The verdict of the jury was that he was not guilty of the offences that underpin that conclusion."

Mr Lasry says the comments are inappropriate.

"I think it would have been appropriate for the Attorney-General's Department to simply indicate that an order had been made," he said.

"But the obvious thing to say is it's most unfair the way he is now being vilified, in a sense, at the hands of the Attorney-General."

Meanwhile, Mr Ruddock says consideration has been given to applying control orders to other people, since the anti-terrorism laws were introduced last year.

It is the first time a control order has been used, but Mr Ruddock says others have been considered.

"There has been a good deal of consideration given to available evidence and whether or not control orders ought to be sought in other cases, but it's not helpful to speculate on those matters, no it's not appropriate to speculate on those matters," he said.

Too many worms

Due to the stupidly declared "war on terra" we end up having nearly all the dirty business of spooks being done openly by the federal police... Lets face it, our government may have some vague idea but no certainty about terrorists in Australia... So our government not only scare the good citizens in believing a lot of useless stuff, there is a surface manufacture of lies and inuendos that are there to multiply the fear factor... Sure one would be annoyed that the government did not do what in its powers to protect us.

But the way Johnnee's government has constructed its protection racket is iffy and fraught with mismanagement of justice and freedom — two beautiful words we stick on all our apples, but Johnnee's and his ministers pick the fruit out of the old freezer thus the fruit are woody and crummy, or the fresher fruit, like their pickers. are wormed to the core...

liar, liar .....

a genuine case where a control order is justified .....

‘The Foreign Affairs Minister, Alexander Downer, issued instructions to suppress a damning letter about the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after the war, a former senior diplomat says.

Dr John Gee, an expert on chemical weapons, worked with the US-led weapons hunter, the Iraq Survey Group, after the war and wrote the critical six-page letter when he decided to resign in March 2004. In it he warned the Federal Government the hunt was, "fundamentally flawed" and there was a "reluctance on the part of many here and in Washington to face the facts" that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.

Dr Gee recorded in an email soon after that "Downer has issued instructions it [my letter] is not to be distributed to anyone". He wrote to a colleague in the Iraq Survey Group that a senior official in the Office of National Assessments, the Prime Minister's intelligence advisory agency, had told him about Mr Downer's instructions.’

Weapons Cover-Up Revealed

wmd found .....

‘In a French TV documentary on Canal+ in January 2001 (7), a team of researchers presented the results of an investigation into a gaseous diffusion - recycling - plant in Paducah, Kentucky, US. According to the lawyer for 100,000 plaintiffs, who are past and present plant employees, they were contaminated because of flagrant non-compliance with basic safety standards; the entire plant is irrevocably contaminated, as is everything it produces. The documentary claimed that the DU in the missiles that were dropped on Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq is likely to be a product of this plant.

These weapons represent more than just a new approach to warfare. The US rearmament programme launched during Ronald Reagan’s presidency was based on the premise that the victor in future conflicts would be the side that destroyed the enemy’s command and communications centres. Such centres are increasingly located in super-hardened bunkers deep underground.

Hitting such sites with nuclear weapons would do the job well, but also produce radiation that even the Pentagon would have to acknowledge as fearsome, not to mention the bad public relations arising from mushroom-shaped clouds in a world aware of the dangers of nuclear war. DU warheads seem clean: they produce a fire modest in comparison with a nuclear detonation, though the incendiary effect can be just as destructive ………..

……………… In Jefferson County, Indiana, the Pentagon has closed the 200-acre (80-hectare) proving ground where it used to test-fire DU rounds. The lowest estimate for cleaning up the site comes to $7.8bn, not including permanent storage of the earth to a depth of six metres and of all the vegetation. Considering the cost too high, the military finally decided to give the tract to the National Park Service for a nature preserve - an offer that was promptly refused. Now there is talk of turning it into a National Sacrifice Zone and closing it forever. This gives an idea of the fate awaiting those regions of the planet where the US has used and will use depleted uranium.’
