Algeria Forbids Efforts to Convert Its Muslims

ALGIERS, April 5 (Reuters) — Algeria has passed a law prohibiting efforts to convert Muslims to another religion, the country's chief of religious affairs said on Wednesday. The move seems aimed at maintaining stability after the Islamist violence that had plagued the country for a decade.

Muhammad Aissa, director of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, told the state radio network that the measure, passed on March 20, was prompted by the activities of Christian evangelists, particularly in the restive ethnic Berber region of Kabylie.

"We found out that in addition to Islam, Christianity has also been used as a tool to destabilize the country during the last bloody decade," Mr. Aissa said.

"Ten sects are active in Algeria," he said, referring to Christian groups. "They do not respect our laws. And some of these sects called for revolt in the Kabylie region."

Gus sings: Freedom? pom-pom-dee-da...
More people to be hanged from the rafters for conversion...? Conversion to what? Mormonite? Latter-day Saints?... If Christ had known what followed his little foray in history, he would not have bothered. he would have let the Romans take over the world... Might have saved us from Bush junior... Who knows...

Senate agrees India nuclear deal
The US Senate has overwhelmingly voted to pass a controversial deal to share civilian nuclear technology with India.
The deal was proposed over a year ago as a way to boost ties with a strategic ally. In exchange, India must allow the US to inspect its civilian reactors.
President George W Bush hailed the move as bringing India into the "nuclear non-proliferation mainstream".
However, the bill still has to clear a number of hurdles before it becomes law and is implemented.
One condition would require India to fully and actively participate in efforts to contain Iran's nuclear programme before the US will offer Delhi help.
The Senate bill and a version passed by the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress, must now be reconciled and approved by Mr Bush before the legislation can take effect.
"As India's economy continues to grow, this partnership will help India meet its energy needs without increasing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions," said the president. The legislation was adopted by 85 votes to 12 in the Senate after a series of proposed amendments - which India had opposed - were defeated.
However, critics have argued the agreement will be detrimental to global anti-nuclear proliferation efforts.

nuclear hypocrites .....

Yes Gus.

Bushit is a lunatic .... assisted by Senate lunatics, including Democrats.

As mentioned earlier on this site, this new "deal" with India allows the Indians to continue their research into military applications of nuclear technology, with none of those activities or the secret defense reactors, subject to inspection or oversight.

Meanwhile, the US & Israel continue to demonise Iran for its nuclear activities which, according to the latest CIA report, appear to be purely for peaceful power generation purposes.

CIA Analysis Finds Iran Not Developing Nuclear Weapons

Of course, in the meantime, the world's greatest proliferator of weapons of mass destruction continues to "renovate" & upgrade its nuclear arsenal, whilst Israel still refuses to acknowledge what the entire planet knows ... that is possesses upwards of 200 nuclear bombs.
