golf in rookwood...
A STRUGGLING Sydney golf club with a declining membership is considering joining forces with a cemetery that is overflowing. Cash-strapped Strathfield Golf Club has told its members it was approached by its neighbour, Rookwood Cemetery, about selling the fairways and greens as future burial grounds. Under a proposal discussed with Australia's largest necropolis, Rookwood would buy the entire course and give the club a long-term lease.

golfing amongst the dead...
Many jokes fell upon this weird story. One needs to share them with the world. The letters to the SMH had quite a few... I tried to link the story with our present pollies but Julia nor Tony play golf on a regular basis, though Tony uses a heavy swing to have goes at Julia who ducks with grace and admirable restraint in her tenure. So no pollies. But the story shows our changing times where commercial venture, even that of death, could take precedence over the entertainment of pushing a little white ball... Some golfers never die they only loose their fairways... and the dead there would have maximum handicap in any tournaments...
But the best — though very small — cemetery in Sydney is that in Newtown... There, there is a grave that is dedicated to the many people who lived their lives anonymously in an unremarkable fashion... Forgotten but remembered... No golf there, just weeds and peace.
meanwhile in brookwood...
Britain's largest cemetery is on fire today as the "tinder box dry conditions" sparked wildfires.
The blaze is raging over 17 acres of the 500-acre Brookwood Cemetery near Woking in Surrey.
Around 40 firefighters and six fire engines plus other units are currently battling the fire which started just after 2pm today.
The cause is not yet known.

The video clearly shows that the cemetery is next to golf course... Is this a weird coincidence...?

green jackets for some women...
After nearly 80 years, Augusta National finally has women in green jackets _ 2 of them
By Associated Press, Updated: Tuesday, August 21, 8:12 AMNEW YORK — The home of the Masters now has green jackets for women.
In a historic change at one of the world’s most exclusive golf clubs, Augusta National invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first female members since the club was founded in 1932.
“This is a joyous occasion,” chairman Billy Payne said Monday.
For some, it was a long time coming.
Martha Burk and her women’s advocacy group first challenged the club 10 years ago over its all-male membership. The debate returned this year when IBM, one of the top corporate sponsors of the Masters, appointed Virginia Rometty as its chief executive. The previous four CEOs of Big Blue had all been Augusta National members.
The battle ended in typical style for Augusta National, with an understated announcement that left even Burk stunned.
“Oh my God. We won,” she blurted out when contacted by The Associated Press.
