Nationals edge closer to approving Telstra sale

Queensland Nationals' president Bruce Scott says a plan for regional telecommunications to be discussed by the federal Cabinet today, may bring the party closer to supporting the full sale of Telstra.
The proposal from Communications Minister Helen Coonan includes an immediate $1 billion upgrade to services in regional areas, and revenue from a $2 billion fund for future needs.
Mr Scott says that will attract significant extra money from the carriers.
"We could be having the effect of a $5 or $6 billion fund, given the amount of money that could be leveraged from the private sector in partnership with the Commonwealth," he said.
Queensland Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has threatened to vote against a Telstra sale.

Isn't this paying for the same thing, twice or thrice? A bit like paying for the repairs to a "lemon" you sold to someone with the money you got from the buyer?

Doesn't the government already have a partnership with the private sector NOW with telstra? Why create a new one just after selling what you already have? Isn't this pushing square muck uphill through round holes without a paddle in a dry ship creek?
