a rate of misunderstanding knots

There is a TV advert paid by an organisation called "getthecarbonpriceright" (or something like that) which explains with unleashed hypocrisy why we should not have a carbon tax in Australia... You know the argument "our contribution to global warming is so insignificant why should we pay "so much", etc). Of course this outfit is part of a multi-pronged attack on Julia's government from the Libs (conservatives) who have gone backwards downhill at a rate of misunderstanding knots...

If solving the global warming conundrum was easy, it would have been fixed a long time ago. Unfortunately, solving this caper is the hardest thing that humans have to do: very quickly minimise their EXTRA carbon usage. The EXTRA carbon (carbon dioxide, metane and other "greenhouse" derivatives) comes from fossil fuels burning or using by humans and other human activities.

Global warming is real and happening at a rate of knots in geological time scale... Urgency is needed now. Tonicchio is an idiot.

selfish bastards...

Question Time in Federal Parliament has been repeatedly interrupted by protesters angry at the passing of the Government's carbon tax bills through the Lower House.

Batches of protesters in the public gallery, chanting "no mandate, democracy is dead", interrupted Prime Minister Julia Gillard four times as she attempted to answer a question.

About 80 protesters in all were escorted out of the gallery by attendants.

Two male protesters stood up from the speaker's gallery, at the end of the chamber, waving shoes and shouting at Ms Gillard: "What happened to your shoe leather?"

One of the men got into a wrestle with security guards as they tried to remove him.

The Speaker, Harry Jenkins, admonished the protesters but refused to close Question Time to the public.

Most of the protesters at parliament house's question time appear to be christian old retirees who have not understood yet that global warming is far more serious than even most scientists are prepard to let us know.

The planet's future is at stake... The carbon tax won't solve global warming, far from it but it's the FIRST necessary STEP in this country towards a carbon neutral economy — which the entire world will need by the year 1996 (we're running a bit late...) should we wish to minimise the increase of temperature (and still rising mind you) by 2 degrees C by 2100...

Is it possible that these ignoramus protesters do not want to recognise global warming — nor the urgent need to do something about it — because, of course, the origin of this massive problem rests on their shoulders from having "burnt" (used) EXTRA carbon all their lives without second thoughts and they don't want to feel guilty about it? No... Don't panic! It's not "your" fault... Blame cannot be used in this case. But proper scientific studies points that the CAUSE of global warming rests fair and square on our lap. We cannot lay iddle and wait that the problem will blow away.

Most of these protesters (and most of us) might be dead within 20 years but we owe the next generations a kind working gesture that shows we think of them. In this light, the protesters appear to be selfish bastards — and that is their right to be whatever — but we can do better, should do better and will do better...

Tonicchio is an idiot.

Australia’s Lower House Narrowly Passes Carbon Tax

By MATT SIEGEL

HOBART, Tasmania — Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s proposal for Australia to adopt the second-largest emissions trading scheme in the world, after the European Union’s, cleared its biggest hurdle yet on Wednesday as the lower house of Parliament voted to pass it.

The hugely controversial plan , which squeaked through a sharply divided House of Representatives by a vote of 74-72, would impose a carbon tax on 500 of the country’s biggest polluters starting in July of next year before transitioning into a market-based trading scheme in 2015. It is expected to easily pass the Senate, the upper house of Parliament, next month with the backing of senators from the Green Party.

“Today is a significant day for Australians and the Australians of the future who want to see a better environment,” the Reuters news agency quoted Ms. Gillard as saying before the vote.

The vote was a much-needed win for Ms. Gillard , whose government is experiencing historically low poll numbers. The country’s first female leader has suffered a series of policy stumbles and setbacks since taking the reins from Kevin Rudd in a party coup in 2010.

But the opposition Liberal Party was quick to criticize passage of the scheme, which sets an initial price of $23 per ton of carbon while guaranteeing billions in compensation for businesses and consumers. The opposition leader Tony Abbott has said that the plan would prove disastrous for Australia’s economy, which is heavily reliant on resource extraction. He has promised to fight to repeal the bill.

“We can repeal the tax, we will repeal the tax, we must repeal the tax. This is a pledge in blood. This tax will go,” Mr. Abbott said, according to Reuters.

Tonicchio is an idiot... Yes Tony, you must not repeal the tax, hopefully you won't be able to touch it — or you will appear even more like an idiotic selfish bastard to the future generations when they come to realise the enormity of your stupidy...

Wong dismisses Abbott's 'dramatic' pledge

Finance Minister Penny Wong has dismissed Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's "pledge in blood" to repeal the government's carbon price legislation if the Coalition wins the next federal election.

"It's a bit dramatic isn't it really, it's like something out of a Boy's Own manual," Senator Wong told ABC Television today.

She said Labor's legislation, which passed the House of Representatives, would provide business certainty.

"I think Mr Abbott is going to have a great deal of trouble if he were to become the leader of the country [in] repealing this," she said.
