truth responds to power

“Senator [Coleman], in everything I said about Iraq, I turned out to be right, and you turned out to be wrong. And 100,000 people have paid with their lives, 1,600 of them American soldiers, sent to their deaths on a pack of lies, 15,000 of them wounded, many of them disabled forever on a pack of lies. If the world had listened to Kofi Annan, who's dismissal you demanded, if the world had listened, to President Chirac, who you want to paint as some kind of corrupt traitor, if the world had listened to me and the anti-war movement in Britain, we would not be in the disaster that we are in today. Senator, this is the mother of all smokescreens, you are trying to divert attention from the crimes that you supported, from the theft of billions of dollars of Iraq's wealth.

Tipping point

Has anyone else noticed the rush to the newsagents on Saturday evening, just before closing time? I got trampled the other day, by inflamed punters demanding their lottery tickets. I was amazed by the amounts of $$ being donated to Tattslotto (I think it was).

I am not a gambler, but would like to suggest a sure winner - a tipping contest for the discussion topics on the next ABC TV's Insiders (Sundays, 9am).

With more control from the Board, Barrie Cassidy's job must be easier. All he has to do is follow the script, starting with the introductory "... Good morning..., Barrie ..." from Paul Kelly.

So, will Paul Kelly pour salt in the festering sore of our involvement in Iraq, by mentioning George Galloway's contempt for the US Senate? Will Andrew Bolt support the Bargaric-Clarke thesis? How loudly will Piers Akerman applaud Downer's revised history of WW2? Will any of them suggest that out-sourcing the care of our injured detainees to faith-based hospices in the Philippines is a jolly good idea?

Unfortunately, I feel like

Jose Manuel Miguel Xaviar Gonzales, and won't be there to see the tender green shoots issue forth in Janet's garden of righteousness.
