Australian supermarket food prices have increased by a new peak of nearly 10 per cent over the past 12 months, outpacing annual inflation as the cost of living continues to rise.

Australia's weighted inflation rate for May came in at 5.6%, sharply lower than April's figure of 6.8% and lower than the 6.1% expected by economists polled by Reuters. Headline inflation for May came in at 5.8%, lower than April's figure of 6.9%. It was the lowest recorded rate since April 2022.

The latest monthly consumer price indicator shows inflation fell sharply to 5.6 per cent over the 12 months to May, down from 6.8 per cent in April.

UK Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has called for British students to be able to decide their own gender pronouns and to “socially transition” with parental consent, promising long-awaited guidance on gender and transition issues is coming soon. 

The government will be publishing gender-identity consultation guidance before the end of summer term, Keegan pledged, in an op-ed for the Telegraph on Saturday, stating that the material will be age-appropriate while “ensuring [parents’] voices are central to decisions being made about their child in school.” 

The announcement followed reports that multiple British secondary schools were not only allowing students to self-identify as cats, horses, and even planets, but were also punishing students that did not go along with such delusions.

US officials believe Wagner PMC’s insurrection in Russia could play into Ukraine’s hands, allowing Kiev to revitalize its much-hyped counteroffensive, which according to Moscow has so far failed to gain any ground, Politico reported on Saturday.

Shortly before the private military company leader Evgeny Prigozhin agreed to halt his advance on Moscow and withdraw his troops as part of a deal brokered by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, US officials held several meetings to assess the potential impact of the mutiny, the article says.
