Edmonton police and the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service are treating a Waffen SS monument as a protected “war memorial” in their charges against journalist Duncan Kinney.

Kinney vehemently denies the allegations and is contesting the charges in court.

It is likely the first time a Canadian journalist has been charged with vandalizing a war memorial, as well as the first time anyone has been charged with vandalizing a memorial to Canada’s wartime enemies.

The charge – “mischief relating to war memorials” – which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence, seems to have been intended to punish vandalism of cenotaphs and monuments dedicated to Canada’s war dead. 

The West is essentially using Ukraine as a tool to fight Russia, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has admitted, insisting that it should not hold back on arming Kiev.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph on Thursday, Johnson chastised the West for what he sees as a lack of resolve in supporting Ukraine, stressing that it should set aside concerns about potential escalation.

“The problem has not been escalation; the problem has been the failure to escalate fast enough. It has been the dithering, the delay, and the nickel-and-diming of the [support] measures,” he said, lamenting the gridlock in the US Congress in late 2023 and early 2024 which prevented aid from flowing to Kiev. “That was a nightmare for Ukraine,” he added.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - French President Emmanuel Macron has guaranteed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immunity from the International Criminal Court (ICC)'s arrest warrant in exchange for a role in ceasefire talks in Lebanon, Le Point news magazine reported on Friday.

"This was the price France had to pay for participation in the agreement on Lebanon. For Paris to be able to play its role in this, Emmanuel Macron had to take three steps back through his foreign ministry by talking about diplomatic immunity," an Israeli source told the news outlet.

The West is secretly planning to occupy Ukraine and freeze the conflict with Russia by deploying tens of thousands of supposed peacekeepers to the country, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has said.

In a statement on Friday, the spy agency cited intelligence sources as saying that NATO is increasingly in favor of halting the hostilities along the current front line, as the US-led military bloc and Ukraine have come to realize that they are failing to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia.

Freezing the conflict would allow the West to rebuild the shattered Ukrainian military and “prepare it for an attempt at revenge,” the SVR stated. It further claimed that NATO is already setting up training centers to process at least one million Ukrainian conscripts.

With Oreshnik now entering the picture, everywhere the Hegemon will try to harass China they will also have to face Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has apologized to Angela Merkel for bringing his pet dog to their meeting 17 years ago, dismissing the former German chancellor’s claims that he wanted to make her feel uncomfortable on purpose.

Black labrador Koni briefly joined Putin and Merkel during their meeting in Sochi, Russia in 2007. Merkel, who is afraid of dogs after being reportedly bitten by one in 1995, later said that she felt uneasy by the presence of Putin’s dog in the room. 

Putin “intended to make a statement, even with the help of his labrador Koni if necessary,” Merkel wrote in her recently released memoirs titled ‘Freedom’.

The UN Climate Change Conference in Baku was shaken right at the start by the announcement that US President-elect Donald Trump was planning to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement once again. What does this mean for global efforts to combat climate change?

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has had dinner with US President-elect Donald Trump at the Republican's Mar-a-Lago estate, the tech giant has confirmed.

Multiple outlets spotted Zuckerberg, who controls Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, at Trump’s Florida resort, the headquarters of the incoming administration. A Meta spokesperson acknowledged that Zuckerberg and the president-elect had dinner together on Wednesday.

“Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming administration,” Meta said in a statement. “It’s an important time for the future of American innovation.”

Despite draconian anti-protest laws, the world’s biggest coal port was closed for four hours, 170 protestors were charged and climate demonstrations will continue. Wendy Bacon reports.

Newcastle port, the world’s biggest coal port, was closed for four hours on Sunday when hundreds of Rising Tide protesters in kayaks refused to leave its shipping channel. 

Over two days of protest, 170 protesters have been charged. Some others who entered the channel were arrested but released without charge. Hundreds more took to the water in support.

Western Europe ‘at war’ with Russia – ex-MI6 chief
The UK should be on alert for possible acts of sabotage, Richard Dearlove has warned

The UK government should treat the Ukraine conflict as “an actual war” with Russia, former MI6 chief Richard Dearlove has said. 

Dearlove, who led the Secret Intelligence Service from 1999 to 2004, made his comments Wednesday, during a conversation with journalist Sophy Ridge on Sky News.

Ridge noted that Moscow had blacklisted dozens of UK officials earlier this week and asked Dearlove how the British government should respond. 

“We have to face up to the fact that the Russians think they’re in a state of war with us,” the former spymaster said. 

At a time when democracy is being challenged around the world, the contest of ideas has never been more important. All of us invested in the democratic project need to do more than wring our hands – we need to demonstrate what we are doing to act against anti-democratic tendencies.
