UK Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has called for British students to be able to decide their own gender pronouns and to “socially transition” with parental consent, promising long-awaited guidance on gender and transition issues is coming soon. 

The government will be publishing gender-identity consultation guidance before the end of summer term, Keegan pledged, in an op-ed for the Telegraph on Saturday, stating that the material will be age-appropriate while “ensuring [parents’] voices are central to decisions being made about their child in school.” 

The announcement followed reports that multiple British secondary schools were not only allowing students to self-identify as cats, horses, and even planets, but were also punishing students that did not go along with such delusions.

While not yet the majority view, a consensus is growing that the US alliance is no longer in Australia’s national interest and that the AUKUS partnership should be abandoned. The argument for distancing Australian foreign policy from that of America is strong in theory, but its practical implementation would be inordinately difficult and risky. That’s not to deny that greater independence is preferable, just that the scope of the policy challenge cannot be ignored.

Washington would only welcome talks on settling the conflict between Moscow and Kiev if they begin with the understanding that Ukraine’s territorial integrity has to be preserved, US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby stated during a briefing on Tuesday.

The US authorities “support [Ukrainian] President [Vladimir] Zelensky’s vision of a just peace” in the conflict with Russia, Kirby said.

Any negotiations “would be welcome only if it’s going to be credible and sustainable, which means that it has to start with a foundation of a belief in Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity and start – at least start – with a discussion of the ten-point proposal that President Zelensky has put forward,” he continued.
