the spirits business .....

the spirits business .....

A vicar is to apply for a drinks licence so he can sell wine and beer at his small village church.

The Reverend Geraint ap Iorwerth could be made licensee of St Peter ad Vincula Church in Pennal, near Machynlleth, close to the Powys-Gwynedd border.

He joked that there were plans to serve more than just spirits, though, with lager and wine on the menu too.

Mr ap Iorwerth said he might also open a bar with proper pub-style pumps in a new church cafe in the future.

pew!

As I was musing today about how many people prefer money over good ideas - often defining a good idea as something that brings money but does little towards understanding or protect the world - I was struck by the ingenuity of the padre to support the collection plate with more spirit-based cash. No joke but before stumbling on his wine crates, I was also telling some visiting family members about the new style of one horse towns with the pub door at one end of a building and the church door at the other end.

Now creating the situation for people to sin by boozing, then doing the absolution is akin to the fast food industry investing money in a slimming business. Brilliant but totally insane.
