Kelly lashes out at states over housing affordability
Nationals MP De-Anne Kelly says the Federal Government should consider trying to take over state planning powers to improve housing affordability.
The member for Dawson says the high cost and low availability of housing is a huge problem in her Queensland electorate.
The constitution gives powers over land to the states, not the Commonwealth.
Mrs Kelly says a Federal takeover would be a last resort but she has lashed out at the states and local government system, saying land release and planning approval is too slow. Gus: Kelly has a grand cheek. The Howard government has used the "property boom and the resources boom to lure the punters into believing that the economy was booming. While these punters gorged themselves on massive debt they could not afford, sending the trade deficit down the "growing black hole of don't ask questions just in case it might become unstable"... And the beautiful figures of the dollar in the paper today reflects two major trends: the US dollar has taken a dive, the Euro is still at .59 something per dollar, and only can you afford holidays in tin-pot places under the dollar dominionship... And according to the ventriloquist's puppet we should go releasing land at greater speed... Does she mean slashing and burning? Does she means just a little bit...? Yet another expression of power grab from the States by the Howard machine...
