In assuming the highest office in the land, our new Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, has promised to observe ‘values that respect & uphold equity, compassion, generosity, tolerance & energetic ambition’.

Whilst these values are doubtless important, many Australians would argue that truth, integrity & justice are far more critical for the maintenance of our nation’s health.

Having assumed our nation’s highest office, surely Sir Peter, Australian of the Year, former Chief of the Australian Defence Force & the Queen’s man, is perfectly placed to finally put to rest allegations of torture & murder made against members of the ADF in east Timor while he was commander of the INTERFET peace-keeping force in 1999?
