McDonald's has filed a $20 million lawsuit against Florence, Italy, for blocking its plans to open a restaurant on the iconic Piazza del Duomo, one of the most visited places in Europe.

The US fast food chain told AFP it was claiming some €17.8 million ($19.65 million) in damages, saying the suit was being filed with the administrative court which arbitrates in governance disputes in Italy.

The Piazza del Duomo, located in the heart of Florence’s historic city center, is a gem of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Its buildings include the domed Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral, the Giotto bell tower, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and the St. John Baptistery.

the bushes hiding in the bushes...

Donald Trump thinks "it's sad" former Republican president George W Bush has reportedly opted to not vote for a presidential candidate in the election.

Mr Trump took a swipe at the former leader but said he thought the decision had "no impact".

"I think it's sad, you know ... when I see George Bush do that," he said during an interview on a Boston-based radio station.

"Look, I was very critical of him for getting us into Iraq, which was obviously a horrible decision, and getting out the way Obama got us out was a horrible way to get out too.

"But you know, I don't think it has any impact, frankly. I think it has no impact."

Mr Bush and his wife, Laura, chose not to vote for a US president, according to a spokesman.

the system is definetely rigged...

Hillary Clinton’s lead in the US presidential election popular vote now stands at more than 1.7 million – despite the Democrat losing the overall election to Donald Trump.

With the last remaining ballots being counted, Mrs Clinton so far has 63.6 million votes compared to 61.9 million for her Republican rival – meaning she has received more votes than any other US presidential candidate in history except Barack Obama.

The Democrat has received 48 per cent of votes counted so far compared to Mr Trump’s 46.7 per cent, according to figures compiled by the Cook Political Report

still bitter and annoying like ear wax...

Well, Hillary Clinton isn’t going gently. That may be understandable, but it’s not smart — not for Clinton, not for her party and not for other female candidates.

Clinton has emerged in recent weeks, and this version is Hillary Unbound, no words minced, no target spared — except, for the most part, herself. So there was Clinton at a Recode conference, not merely relitigating the 2016 election but relitigating it like the relentless trial lawyer she once was.

For her electoral college loss, Clinton variously blamed: the Russians, probably in cahoots with the Trump campaign; the media, for turning her use of a private email server — “the biggest nothing-burger ever” — into “Pearl Harbor”; the James B. Comey letter; misogyny, as in the “unfairly used” fact of her six-figure speeches to Goldman Sachs when “men got paid for the speeches they made”; voter suppression; “unaccountable money flowing in against me”; inheriting a “bankrupt” Democratic National Committee, whose “data was mediocre to poor, nonexistent, wrong”; being “the victim of a very broad assumption I was going to win”; and misogyny, again, as in people who are “much more skeptical and critical of somebody who doesn’t look like and talk like and sound like everybody else who’s been president.

Clinton incanted the ritual words of taking responsibility, if without much conviction. The private server “was a mistake,” even though it was “something that others had done before.” She “never said I was a perfect candidate, and I certainly have never said I ran perfect campaigns, but I don’t know who is or did.” In other words, sorry, not sorry.

Much of Clinton’s critique is well-founded — when it comes to Russia, alarming. Most complicated is the matter of misogyny. Yes, it played some role, but it’s difficult to tweeze apart voters’ hostility toward Clinton as a person and the degree to which that dislike was fueled by gender stereotypes. And if, as Clinton argues, she was on track to win the election on Oct. 27, before Comey issued his fateful letter, then maybe misogyny isn’t such a pernicious force after all.

Get a grip, woman... Russia had nothing to do with La Clinton loss... Proper studies of statistics in the future will prove that the right wing evangelicals (somewhat reluctantly) and Uncle Rupe were fully responsible for her losing the elections, APART FROM HER OWN evident INEPTITUDE.  Her self-satisfaction at destroying Libya (see the video) did not help her either ... This was another George W Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld "mission accomplished" moment that soon went arse up. Despite Donald Trump being pretty good at shooting himself in the foot, he got the college votes. In yankeeland this is all that matters, NOT THE POPULAR VOTE. Most of the media was in her favour, nonetheless. The only media that was not "with her" was, you know, Murdoch's. But Uncle Rupe's media was cleverer in rarely attacking her front-on, but in discreetly showing her hypocritical idiosyncrasies (which still continue to be "self-exposed", today as she blames everyone and everything but herself), while Uncle Rupe showed, in full-frontal -- including nude pictures of Melania -- the amusing but dangerous mad idiocy of The Donald...
