Waves up to 8 metres have hit Collaroy on Sydney's northern beaches, crashing into beachfront properties and causing an in-ground swimming pool to collapse, as wild weather battered NSW.

About seven houses and a unit block were evacuated at Collaroy as a huge low pressure system moved over the state Sunday night, Inspector Jason Reimer said.

"One of the properties along that strip actually lost an entire in-ground pool which had moved about five metres out to sea," Inspector Reimer said

A senior weather forecaster says the Northern Territory's weather is "all wrong" after a host of June heat records were broken, just six days into the month.

Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) senior forecaster Graeme King said the Top End had sweltered through unseasonably hot weather.

"It was a terrible weekend, we've got so many new June records out there this weekend it's not funny," Mr King said.

"We're not getting the big highs and the dry pushes so we're stuck with this humid sort of air mass.

"Noonamah, 19 millimetres of rain and a shower yesterday afternoon in June.

In Bradshaw, about 330 kilometres south of Darwin, the Northern Territory recorded its highest June temperature, at 37.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

McCluer Island, off the coast of Arnhem Land, recorded the NT's highest June night-time record, at 27.6C.

There were local daytime heat records recorded at nine areas and the highest daily minimum temperatures at four places.

The Top End has experienced unusual weather in recent months, with record dry conditions between January and April in the wet season.

And by the way, the New South Wales in its wisdom has decided to stop levying ESL (Emergency Services Levy) through your "private" insurance companies, but to shift it to your Local Council (or whatever is left of them) as an addition to your RATES... The idea here is that as the cost of insuring for natural disaster is going to hit the roof, your insurance premiums will only rise by the cost to the insurer, while the government, through its network of "administrators, can make you pay through the nose for its inaction on climate change. So what you used to pay in "extra" charges for your electricity "Carbon Pricing" (destroyed by Turdy's"no the carbon tax" with the help of a double fat dealing Palmer) will be collected twice over by a government doing nothing about CO2 emission reduction.

And by the way, until about ten this morning, the temperature in Sydney was about 10 degrees Celsius above average for the month of June — including during the night. It has dropped about 2 degrees since then.

Oof. We just passed yet another climate change milestone, and it's a particularly troubling one. Carbon dioxide levels in Antarctica recently hit 400 parts per million, according to an announcement from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Wednesday. It's the first time in 4 million years that the region has reached such levels.

Carbon dioxide—a heat-trapping gas produced by burning fossil fuels—is the primary driver of global warming. Carbon dioxide levels have been on the rise all over the world, but because Antarctica is so remote, the pollutant has accumulated more slowly there. Antarctic CO2 concentrations first surpassed the 400 ppm mark on May 23, according to measurements taken at the South Pole Observatory.

"The far southern hemisphere was the last place on earth where CO2 had not yet reached this mark," Pieter Tans, the lead scientist of NOAA's Global Greenhouse Gas Reference Network, said in a statement. "Global CO2 levels will not return to values below 400 ppm in our lifetimes, and almost certainly for much longer.
